I presume we can travel light as far as CP1 and not carry the full bulk of the mandatory kit e.g. survival bag, foil blanket, waterproof bottoms, fleece etc. etc. These are surely only essential for the open mountain? I'm guessing this was asked at the info night!

haha at times it seemed like nothing ELSE was asked about on the night :-)

The short answer is yes you don't need to carry your mountain gear, spare fleece, compass, etc on the run to CP1. There may be spot checks from CP1 onwards.

Did anyone get a proper look at the chip/tag/dibber things? Is there a hole in them to be able to tie them on to something? Or do we need to bring a hole punch? :D

I'm concerned about a chip which isn't velcroed to my wrist falling out of my pocket or bag somewhere up around Billy Byrne's Gap and disqualifying me!

Best of luck to everyone doing it, enjoy!

Given the forecast, carrying waterproof bottoms from the castle wouldn't be a bad idea.

    hi all
i heard that when we get back to glenmalure we get a ticket for the bus back into town, we have to go on the bus that matchs our ticket, so we wont be able to hang around for a few pints ,is this true? or can we get on any bus?

When you finish, you get a colour-coded bus ticket. You have to leave on the bus that you’ve been allocated.

I think it will be pot luck as to whether you get to enjoy a few pints. I imagine whoever comes first will have to wait till the bus fills before leaving so they’ll have plenty of time waiting on others.

However, the person who is the last person to be allocated that particular colour coded ticket will have the least amount of time.

Thus the first person to be allocated the second colour bus will have lots of time and so on. I’d say there be a bit of common sense too.

You can swap tickets with someone else if you want to get a later bus (and you can find someone to swap with)

The FB page recommends signing in at 8.30pm and head home for a bit.

"The Ultras must register, go through gear check, pick up their timing chip and drop off their bag BEFORE 1am. All bags will be leaving at 1am. The best thing for 2am starters is to get all this done when registration opens at 8.30pm and then go away for a few hours. No need to hang around if you have all that done unless you want to soak up the atmosphere of this great event.(Does anyone hear trumpets?) Hope that answers your question."

Fingers crossed that I make the line. Common sense has gone out the window and replaced with blind optimism.

Thanks everyone for the info. Unfortunately I don't live in Dublin and missed the info nights. What time should a country boy attempting the Hybrid arrive to Dublin Castle at (by way of a few hours of public transport) so that he won't be foundered?

    Thanks!

The best option for country folk is to get to the Castle as close to 8.30pm as they can make it especially if relying on public transport. That will give you a chance to get all the necessary out of the way and then go grab a coffee or chat to other competitors. I would advise 2am starters that regardless of where they are coming from to be at the castle no later than 10.30pm. Hope this helps and that everyone is looking forward to a cracking event.:)

Yeah I got the shakes and the dodgy tummy this morning...and we pay to do this!?

Hoping the rain holds off for the road section at least, don't mind so much if it rains on the hills.

Best of luck to everyone taking part, All about visualisation techniques, specifically I'm visualising that first Guinness in the Glenmalure Lodge. Let's face it, I'll be asleep by the second.

I'm going to head home after work, finalise packing and grab an hour or two kip tonight before heading in.

To the person who asked about socks I'm going to run in 1000 mile socks for the road section and then strip them off and put on Merino Wool Hiking socks for the hills. Enduro suggested perhaps just sticking with 1000 mile socks for the lot of it but as I'll be shifting into Ankle Braces for the hill run the top of them would cut the legs off me so I'll go with something longer.

Hope everyone enjoys this. I'm glad I passed my entry on as I've had a bit of a manflu all week and wouldn't be in the form for it this evening I reckon.

Hope the rain holds off and you get some nice solid ground to run/walk/crawl/fall across once you hit the hills. And if there's venison available in the Lodge get it down you!

Best of luck to all on this great hike. Weather isn't too bad but some overnight showers are forecast. Not sure if it will hold off till the road section is out of the way but you'd never know. There are only light breezes forecast and temperatures of 4-5 so overall you can't complain. Make sure you have spare head torch batteries as there won't even be a slip of a moon out there...proper country dark as they say!
See you all at Dublin Castle and then once again at the Finish Line:D

I'll be thinking of you at the start tonight, where I should be, with a twinge of regret. I enjoyed the training and meeting with the guys for the recces.

But I'm just back from the doctor with a months supply of drugs so I ultimately made the right decision in pulling out last week. Doc reckons they probably would kick in within 24 hours but sure what can you do.

Most important thing is to have fun !

    Epic event.

Stunning views, lots of mini adventures crammed into the race, tough conditions, but incredible event. My leg was grand on the night. Sweet. Those walkers don't hang around either!

I believe Enduro won in around 6 hours 5. Open to correction on that. Well organised event. Breakfast and pints of Guinness in Glenmalure at the end.
