Hi Guys,

Just wondering at what point do you begin to pay PRSI?

Using the Deloitte tax calculator, you can go as far as 18k for the year before paying PRSI.

If you were paid below 18k for the year and paid PRSI, would you be entitled to a refund?

You should be able to reclaim that as you're not liable to PRSI if you earn an average of €352 gross or lower per week.

I'm guessing that you may have paid some PRSI in one or two 'good weeks' (overtime or bonus?) but- as you have noted- if your annual gross is under €18300 [NB- that's before tax and all deductions] then you're not actually liable to pay any PRSI.

I was out of the country for the first few months of the year.

Worked from April onwards so have around 400 built up in PRSI.

I'll have to inquire if my employer will handle it as i sent a letter to the 'PRSI refund address' back in April for prsi overpaid in 2009/10/11 and have still not heard a word.

Thats not unusual

There is a massive backlog - --

Doubt if your emplyer can do anything fo you as the year is over

Even an acknowledgement would be welcome.

I suppose I'll send this off and hear back from them in 2015? :rolleyes:

Think they have just started looking at applications submitted in April 2012 recently.. In fairness, tens of thousands of people sent in applications without checking to see if they were actually due a refund or not. Revenue have to check and respond to each application

You're right.

It's just a pain when i can see clearly what I'm owed on my pay slip and have to wait months or years to claim it back.
