Anybody have them or tried them out? I watched LinusTechTips's video on them recently, he seemed pretty positive on them but then again he's pretty positive about everything.

I use f.lux which definitely helps in terms of the tinting, but he mentioned that staring at screens makes your eyes dry out and irritated because of forgetting to blink. I'm trying to remember to blink every time I die when gaming, but it's a hard habit to get in to.

yea ive been following it, but honestly, id feel like a numpty wearing tinted yellow glasses while gaming. as was said in the comments on YT, they're just tints, you can buy them in any hardware store for a fraction of the price.

They also do clear-lens models. You might think what's the point of them then, but there is the moisture-retention thing that Linus mentions (could be nonsense, but it's an interesting idea) and they are low profile which means you can wear them under headsets if you get prescription versions.

My eyes do be killing me after only a short time with certain monitors, ones in my work are a pain after only 30 mis work. (with loads of extra blinking!)
Been seeing so many positive reviews about Gunnars (not all looking like they were paid...) that after a long while of thinking about it I said said Feck it I'll get em and find out for myself.

I got mine from the Gunner site and should be here today.

If anyone is interested on if they work from my point of view (sore eyes after a short gaming session) I'll report my finding here after a week or two.

I've got a pair for my work environment where there are quite a lot of strip lights and they really do help dim the glare. It's strange when you first put them on, and for the first week, as things seem brighter as soon as you wear them, but after a while you realise that the glare has gone.

Beware of import charges as I was stung by customs, when I shouldn't have been due to the price of the glasses. I'm in UK though.

These look identical to "night driving" glasses, which are basically just a yellow tinted lens (they do actually help in certain driving situations). Difference is, they've added the word "Gaming" so they can charge silly prices.

Honestly, if all they are is tinted lenses - Aldi has a set of "sports sunglasses" which come with clear/yellow/black lenses for €3 or something. I'd try those first.

I would look into PWM as this is causing a lot of problems with eye strain in recent years.

Basically to control the backlight brightness, most monitors rapidly flash the backlight on/off at a couple of hundred Hz. For lower brightness, the 'on' part of the flash just gets shorter.

It can give people headaches and eyestrain and it tends to be worse with LED because LED lamps turn on and off much more abruptly than CCFL.

Hello everyone! sorry for bumping up such old thread, but here is a problem

I'm working a lot in front of PC, sometimes up to 18h per day.
I have good vision and don't wear any glasses, however for the last month or more my eyes are in pain when i'm looking into the screen. if I don't look at the screen for more than 15 min my eyes relax and pain go away, but once i come back it stars over again.

As u understand I cant stay away from monitors as it is my job.

My friend recommend me Gunnar Optiks for additional eyes protection, however I really would prefer to go into the retail shop and check them before buying.
I visit one opticians shop, but unfortunately they never head of Gunnars optics, however they advice me another technology for yey protection, called "Blue Control" from "Hoya" company
    (bluecontrol.eu/index.php?SID=53918afb1898c824946411)

But it looks like it is 2 different technologies
    1) "Gunnars Optiks" - is yellow'ish glasses which reminds me glasses for drivers with polarized affect
    2) "Hoya - Blue Control" - is just plain glasses with slightly blue'ish color

Could you please tell me which ones are better? any suggestions?
I would be very much appreciate for any comments

I don't know anything about either but I will say that Hoya are a very large optics company who make good filters for photography. Definitely not a no-name. As to how effective either would be -- I have no idea.

Could you turn down the brightness on your monitor? The official standard for screen brightness in broadcast for tv is 80 candelas squared, for cinema it's 60 candelas. Normal pc monitors come stock at 200+ candelas (!!!).

I've got used to my monitor being somewhere around 120cdm2. Good balance between being where it should be and stopping people from saying "Why is your screen so dull?" I still suffer quite a bit of eye fatigue and have done a lot of damage to my eyes from computer use, but since turning down the brightness my eyes haven't been dry anymore after long periods of use.

Also turn up ambient light in your room! The light shining in the window behind my monitor is usually twice as bright as the screen, so my eyes aren't constantly being strained when looking at the screen, it's almost giving them a break from the ambient light.

Not very scientific, but give it a try before you go buying special glasses for it. I can't as a colour tint on lenses would mean I'd be creating graphics / colouring video with an extremely blue tint (if wearing the yellow glasses).

After eyes test i got prescription so i decide to go for "blue control" as it was something i could physically test in shop, it looks not bad, so i order one pair. Glasses will be ready within ~2 weeks, so ill update you guys later with with how "Blue Control" worked out!

If any of you know where I can find "Gunnar Optiks" in retail shop, please let me know, would love to test them in person too

I went looking for them before, I'm not sure there are many (if any) stockists for them in Ireland.

Definitely get yourself f.lux if you don't already have it and set it to "gradual" mode. Dropping the brightness as mentioned by frozen too will be a big help. Also, talk to your optician about the realities of your screen use and what tips they can give you to help - they're eye health professionals :) Small things like looking away at something else for one minute out of every hour can make a big difference.

    Thank Shiminay
I'm actually using Viewaide - viewaide.com (damn, still cant insert links )
Very helpful software. With use of your webcam it keep track how often u blink and remind you if you dont do it often
Also it tells you if you are sitting too close or too low. What is more once or twice during work hours it suggest to use eye gymnastic and provide special tutorials for it.
It is freeware, so feel free to download! very helpful software!
