People get off your high horses. He can't go back in time and not buy Christmas presents. What's done is done.

Had about 2 months, had it at christmas time and had the money but had to buy presents and that .. yeah so I hear, its only for a few hours though isn't it?

you had 2 months to pay and dont have any of it saved up ??? ...best to apply to court and ask for an extension of time.

.... it'll be too awkward trying to explain to boss/parents/friends if the gardai turn up and arrest you.

    best of luck.

Theres no high horses here, its just plain and utter stupid and OP needs to grow up,fine is only 400 not 3,000 or anthin. Go to the cop shop and ask what can be done instead of getting knabbed and brought to mount joy in the back of a squad car and your name possibly in the local paper.

Ah yeah **** it sure I'll see what happens, if I had €400 euro right now chance are the last thing I'd do would be hand it over to them.

There'll be no post, they turn up with the warrant, serve it to you and you leave with them.

Hey, so I got a €400 fine for drunk and disorderly its due in like 2 days and I don't have the money to pay it. Anyone know what happens if you don't? Few people have told me they just hold you for 2 or 3 hours? Is that true, thanks.

Its true. But they won't be out to fetch you just yet, Give the station a call and tell them to let you know when the committal warrant is out, They will bring you to the jail.

That won't happen for not paying a fine, Any fine is given with a default jail time if you choose not to pay, So doing the time instead of paying the fine changes nothing.

is the fine for drunk and disorderly not something ancient like 4 shillings or some such? are amounts like the op's not seen as a charitable donation to avoid getting a conviction?

go down to the station and talk to the garda, arrange with him to present yourself at a later date (e.g. a week or so) with the money. he'll tell the judge the story and that you presented yourself, hopefully the judge accepts it, give the money, go on your way - may involve time in a holding cell as you wait to be called to court but nothing too rectally inappropriate can happen there

That's amongst the worst advice I'v ever read here..

Sure what's it got to do with the judge or another appearance in court ?
The penalty has been given, its completely out of the judges hands now unless the defendant wishes to appeal the sentence to a higher court. When a fine isn't paid a warrant will be sent from the court service to the Guards to execute. The Guards will accept the money if you have it there and then when they come with the warrant.

Its not rocket science and the bloke is only coming on here looking for advice and all ye are giving him is tripe talk and abuse.

    Here's what you do.

Arrange a going away party with your closest friends on the last night of freedom.
Get drunk and let one of them mess up your face.

    I'll be honest.
It won't be easy, you are a good looking man.

Kind of catchy, maybe they should rename "After Hours" to that !

If your not going to pay the fine, present yourself at the cop shop at midnight the day before the warrant is due and depending on the default of the fine, will depend on how long your stay will be . The longer your in the more the fine goes down.

Jasus, they really are clamping down on non-payment, aren't they! This place has gone to the dogs, feckin death penalty for a drunken rant. Worse than Texas.
