Hey, so I got a €400 fine for drunk and disorderly its due in like 2 days and I don't have the money to pay it. Anyone know what happens if you don't? Few people have told me they just hold you for 2 or 3 hours? Is that true, thanks.

It's something similar to what awaits you if you don't pony up the cash for the coppers.

2 or 3 hrs is enough time to get severely bummed

A bench warrant will be put out for your arrest . They can increase the fine if you dont pay . I would advise conatacting them to sat you are not in a position to pay the full amount and offer them €5.00 per week until the fine is cleared

They hardly gave you 2 days to pay it. Why didn't you sort it out before??

depends on how many days in default you were given.... you could go before the court and apply for an extension of time to pay.

how long did you have to pay ? did you manage to make any attempt to pay ? failing to pay could result in Gardai appearing at your house/work with a warrant to bring you to jail....which you wont have a choice but to do it.

I've spent longer than that waiting on a bus, just close your eyes and pretend you're waiting on this countries public transport

You wait two days before the fine is due and post what happens on a random Internet forum what will happen? Good luck with that!

Yeah, the jails don't have the space or money to lock up people for little fines for a long time.

I reckon you should have cut down on the presents and payed your bloody fine, no need to get a criminal record over something so silly.

Certain countries won't like that or even certain jobs in the future if your vetted.

I paid and then bent over anyway. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I was outside the joy touching my toes for hours. Didnt even get a wolf whistle.

I havent tried having an argument while being assbanged on someones counter.

    How did you find it?

Nah that's all changed now, you'll end up doing the time, or at least half of it. A friend of mine thought he'd get away with only having to spend a couple of hours inside, parked up his car in a multistory carpark. Ended up ringing me in a panic the next day to ask me could I move it for him. Apparently they're clamping down hard on non-payment of fines these days.

so buy presents is more important than ending up with a permanent criminal record which could (and probably will) effect future travel or employment opportunities?
you really need to get your priorities straight.

Getting a criminal record for the sake of buying "presents and that" is phenomenally stupid.
