    Was out there today too!
    33 points off 20.
Nowhere near as good as Matt-Dublin's 40 yesterday but I was happy enough. A few lapses in concentration cost me a better score. Striking the ball well. Bodes well for 2013!!
Happy New Year to you all!

Played Druids Glen for the first time today in a Open Singles. Shot a 79, +8 off 3 and 31 points.

We got a fabulous day for it, but my golf was poor. Was all over the place for the first few holes, wild driving, abysmal iron play and yipping chipping meant 5 bogeys over the front 9, which was just about all I deserved. Played better for the next few and despite a truly stupid (no other word for it) 6 on the par 5 11th, I managed a birdie 2 on the signature 12th and scraped a par on the intimidating index 1 13th. Parred 14 but dropped a shot on 15, again caused by a shocking approach, an 8 iron this time, having gotten away with an overly conservative tee shot left.

Managed to get that back with a birdie on 16, courtesy of a 12 foot putt, but another pathetic iron found the drink on 17 leading to a scratch, and I completed the day by bogeying the very difficult 18th.

Hard to take too many positives away from today...I played Carton on Monday in more difficult conditions and hit the ball infinitely better, so to play so poorly was disappointing. My putting was a little better than it was on Monday I guess, and I was glad to at least break 80 on my first spin around the course. I thought it was a fine track, very scenic and a lot tighter than it looked upon first glance. I think it can be difficult to fully commit to shots when you visit a new course and this really caught me out early. I like to know where I can miss, and that was hard to establish over the first few holes :o The 4th hole in particular is treacherous; the dog-leg obscures punishing bushes and shrubbery to the right, definitely a hole you'd want to have played twice! My approach shots were really unforgivable today unfortunately; the direction the ball is going is no longer the primary concern with my iron-play, I'm properly struggling to hit them anywhere near the middle of the club.

    I need the range :(

Played Ballinrobe on Tuesday (1/1/13). Only 15 holes in play. Wet but relatively good condition considering Tuam/Mountbellew/Athenry/Cregmore all closed. Scored 26 points. Drove very well and short game was good also. Never got to grips with the putter. two and three putted all day. Good to get out and get rid of last years demons :D

Won the skins and then sank some creamy pints in the clubhouse...good day overall.

    7 bogeys

Played Scarke Golf Club for the first time today. Nice course, bit young but has plenty potential. Lots of water on it as well and a huge bitch of a wind today!

Shot 75, +4 (Par 71 due to 18th being shortened to par 3), 41pts. Had a brutal start with a double bogey on the first and bogey on the 3rd. Managed to maintain +3 for the rest of the front 9 though. Was fairly happy considering the wind was gusting in what seemed to be every direction!

Shot +1 back nine with 2 bogeys and a bird. Should have been better at I missed two 5 footers in a row on 17th and 18th for birdies but still very happy with 41pts.

Skimmed a ball across one of the lakes as well. Counted 8 skims before it hit the rushes :D Much better than my stone skimming :P

34 points of 26 today in Moyvalley . First time to play and taught it was in great knick for this time of year and really impressed with the greens .

My best day on a golf course to date . Really should be reporting back with 2 birdies but for one putt to lip out and leave another a couple of mms short .

Can't wait to get out next weekend .

26 points. Woeful off the tee and putting wasn't great either. Birdied the index 1 was the only highlight to a struggle.

    Oylmpic club , San Fran
    80 shots
1 3 putt on super fast greens from 10 ft
3 shots to get outta 1 bunker
1 ball stuck in the trees
Birdie on 18 to finish. Could have sold that 3 earlier this year :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,632 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

27 points for 15 which included 1 eagle, 3 birdies and 3 blanks, lol :)

26 points off 12 in Corballis yesterday.

I was ticking along nicely with 16 after 8 holes only to scratch the 9th and pretty much fell apart on the back 9, topping the ball into a dune 10ft in front of me and losing the ball being the lowlight.

Course was in good nick, nice bit of wind there to make you think carefully about each shot. My two previous attempts at corballis were a PW (personal worst) 16 points and 26 points off 16 so i suppose il take a small positive.

Again i left a disgraceful amount of shots on the greens....some day they will start dropping....i hope.

Down to earth with a bang yesterday after my good rounds recently! 25 points off 20 in Druids Heath :-(
Not all bad as I had 16 points on the front nine. A couple of lost plugged balls on the back nine and tiredness after a hard weeks work killed me.
Taking the positives though as driving was super and putting too. Iron play needs attention as not consistent enough.
    Getting there though :-)

I only got to play 3 rounds over the Christmas break - 3 different courses though.
1st one I think I mentioned before in 2012 thread, these 2 are from this year.

Second one I scored 39 points and thought I didn't play particularly well.
    3 pars
    9 bogeys
rest were doubles and a scratch - putting was all over the place. Some really really silly 3 putts

Third round we only got to play 16 holes as the last 2 were out of play. Had 32 points. Thought I played a lot better than I actually did. Driving was long and straight - leaving me less than 80m to most greens. Used a hybrid for second shot on par 5's. Everything felt good apart from putting.
    4 pars
    5 bogeys
Other 6 were doubles and one scratch again. Same thing - I had way too many 3 putts which turned birdie putts into bogeys and pars into doubles.
Course was in terrible condition though - the amount of unrepaired divots was unbelievable. They were everywhere, sometimes the divot was only a few inches away and they weren't repaired. Hate seeing a course treated like this.

My heart bleeds for you :D I unfortunately have not played golf since December 10th! Who thought having a second child was a good idea:rolleyes: Taking up my golf time :p

As for the divot marks, there should be a thread on this, it is in everyone's best interest to repair divot marks, and people are just so lazy, not even carrying repairer's! Played early Dec in home course, only 2 groups ahead of me (all of home are longstanding members), counted at least 8/9 unrepaired marks throughout the day.......... not on!

Played palmerstown today. Very wet off the fairways but the greens were in great nick. Bunkers out of play as usual. Rained for the first nine but stopped for the back which was nice. Scored 28 points off 24. Good round considering the elements.
