Cannot install Windows 7 on 3TB Drive

Well I can if I use default MBR and am prepared to loose 1TB, but I cannot get it to install on a GPT drive. I've used Diskpart during install to convert the drive to GPT and format it but the Windows installer won't install to it. I tried Windows 8 too, same issue. The bios supports UEFI boot, but I cannot get usb key to be recognised as a UEFI boot device, tried both ntfs and fat32. Anyone have any ideas.

Could be a bios issue, have you checked if there is an update available for the board? Maybe try AHCI mode and see if it works?

Yeah, I've an email drafted to send in the morning, trouble is, it was bought in Germany.....

The bios doesn't have an AHCI setting for Sata, Ide only. I took a screenie as I know you won't believe me

Over to the right it suggests an AHCI option, but doesn't seem to appear :S . I'm guessing bios bug at this point. One thing to check, make sure there is no jumper or compatibility mode set on the disk drive itself

is there a bios update on the vendors website? I recall asrock releasing a new update for their z68 lineup specifically addressing 3tb boot problems, but that was some time ago.

I need to open it to check the drive and see what mobo it is, it came pre-installed.

I imagine the issue would be sorted if AHCI mode could be enabled, it's a new enough mobo so I would think a 3TB drive shouldn't be an issue, hard to know though!

No jumpers set on drive

The boot order has an UEFI option, see. I see nowhere to enable/disable UEFI though

The 08/05/2011 bios is the only release, no updates

After much frustration I only managed to sort this today. This tool will allow you allocate the unused space and add it as another MBR drive, it's the only way I can find around it

If you installed it as 2nd drive it would get around it, the problem is you want it bootable.
Would SATA PCI card with support for 3T+ also get around this?
