A new firmware has been released for the Ariva 250 today, it's version number is V1.21B4.

As usual, my Irish channels (Ch 52) may not match your location, so delete the terrestrial ones, then rescan and move from the end of the list to the start.

The channel list has 91 Channels with all of the junk ones deleted. No favourites or anything created so it's just a straight-forward channel list.

Many thanks. I did the upgrade and used your channel list. All worked perfectly.

I didn't get a chance to look at the release notes yet. Anyone know what was fixed or added? I note that they fixed that web link the guy with 2 girlfriends was complaining about recently though ;)

    Your welcome. :)

The only thing I noticed was the new "Save Channel List" feature in the "Upgrade By USB" section.
It saves the channel list as a .bin file.

How do you know when you need a software update for these things?

Actually you don't need it unless you have an issue addressed by a software fix or there's a new feature you particularly need .

    This is what I do

    1. On set-top box use Upgrade by USB
    2. Use the upgrade mode of 'Dump'
    3. This creates a file DumpFile.abs on the stick
    4. Open the editor on the PC
    5. Take the file open option
    6. Look in your usb stick and put * in the filename
    7. Choose the Dumpfile.abs file
    8. Pick user database and press OK
    9. Make your changes
    10. Take the file save option
    11. Pick user database and press OK
    12. Go back to the set top box
    13. Upgrade by USB
    14. Take the upgrade mode of 'Userdb'
    15. Pick the file DumpFile.abs

I find the editor OK. It's a lot better that using the remote.

    Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply (sorry havnt been around in a while to say thanks before now) - hopefully Ill get a chance over the weekend to give this a go

    Regards

    Iba

What I like about the editor is this. I keep a list of 70 or so channels that I like/use. If channels change frequency or new channels come along I simple do a full scan. All by favorite channels stay at the top of the list and I simple move the hand-full of new channels down in to that list and use multiple selection to delete all the unneeded ones. It's very quick.

What I don't like about the editor is that you can't do it after a firmware upgrade. It still only takes 20 minutes or so.

Your quick - it takes me a bit over an hour but Im sorting stations from 4 Sats and my fingers kill me afterwards too :)

    Patrick,

I just use an indoor aerial/rabbits ears that I bought in Lidl for about €12 which works absolutly perfectly - perhaps you can keep an eye out for one of them next time they are selling them - much cheaper than teh same in Currys, PC World, DID, Petes etc

I just realized I could rewind live tv there on my parents Ariva 250, I thought Id turned off the setting for that feature so it wont burn out the USB memory but I obviously hadn't and its been writing to memory all this time, what exactly do I need to do so that it only records to memory when its specifically told to?

    Hi,

I've been having difficulty getting a relatives box into and out of standby. It seems to be a random press between the stb button on top right of the remote and the standby button on top left.

Which is it I should be using? I thought it was the stb button, but it doesn't seem to always work - or else the delay is long enough for them to get frustrated and try the other button.

in the settings you need to turn auto standby on

Its a universal remote so the STB button sets the remote to control the set top box only (hence STB) so as long as you do not hit the DVD or other device button the standby power button should turn the box on and off.

    Hi guys,

Apologies if this has already been asked, but has the Ariva 250 got a web browser?

I was wondering if I could use it to view IP enabled webcams on my local house network?

    No afraid not

Do you know if the youtube bug has been fixed in the latest firmware version?

Previously the youtube videos would display a preview for me but fail to play.

Every option I can find seems to want to clear the whole list of channels from the box, is there no option to select individual channels and change the frequency of just that one channel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,353 ✭✭✭✭Tony

"you need to update your receiver by doing a transponder (TP) scan."

But that will change all the channels, Im wondering how do you just do the one channel like BBC4?

No it wont, I would not have suggested it if it did. A single transponder scan will only scan that transponder, just make sure that network search is set to "OFF".

Is that the search option by pressing the blue button in 'TP List'? Ive gone into that, selected slot 16 in Eurobird which is where I have BBC news, changed it to 108181 mhz, H, and 22000 but a search just says No networks found, is there a better way?

Does anyone have an answer to this? I have to go in an hour, on the Ariva 250, what option in what menu is for getting channels back when their frequency changes? Ive tried TP list but its not working...
