    no me either...i blame the tv and the difference in broadcasts on different channels. It all combines to give a noticable lip sync issue. I guess i am not going to get away with a low power and cheap solution. Thanks for your time on the matter. I reckon it will another few years before we get to a place you can just by a tv and tune in everthing and have them all in sync regardless of your frequency and hd motion preference. I heard somewhere that advertisers where giving out the most as they can prove that their adds do not have the same conviction when they are out of sync. Maybe with the amount of revenue in the buisness that comes from advertising they might cop on and get their finger out instead of just expecting us all to fork out more cash for extra devices to get what we thought we where paying for in the first place. I like to have some good kit there and do spend the cash even while unemployed but i hate being forced into add on's....thanks again for your time Tony.

    I really cannot comprehend how you have audio problems if the device is connected by HDMI.

    I could suggest a trust wave speaker set with subwoofer (amplifier built into the subwoofer) but that would only improve the sound quality over the TV's built in speakers. It wouldn't solve your HDMI seperation of audio and picture delays.

    What model Phillips TV is this ? Surely there would be murder if this was the case. Is this problem also evident with other devices (DVD player ?). If it is a general issue with the TV then Phillips would have released a firmware upgrade on the net to fix it (as the French market wouldnt stand for it).

    Nah, I think you just got unlucky, audio sync really isn't that big an issue, never has been.

    Its a philips 42PFL7606/h and i have had correspondence with philips on the matter. They did have a few complaints about lip sync when hdmi was used and released a firmware update for it. When i got the tv first all the channels in both 'analogue UPC cable' and 'saorview digital' seemed fine, at least i did not notice any sync issue, then i upgraded to the lastest firmware which included the hdmi sync adjustment and all my channels went out of sync even varying across different channels by fairly large gaps E4 mtv and sky where all really bad and i had to turn off motion flow and the likes to get discovery in to a reasonable sync. I tested blue ray on it with hdmi and that was fine once you used their motion flow. I explained all of this to philips and they basically said that they think nothing was wrong with the tv after guiding me through an even newer firmware upgrade and a full reinstal. I am not convinced that the tuner is working as it should be and now on connecting the ariva up and finally having a hdmi link for my tv stations i still have a lip sync issue which can not be rectified by picking and chosing the pixel percise settings which i have proved do adjust the audio sync. So as much as i am getting use to the sync differences i do think that the telly does not sync proper, maybe only on blu ray .

    You need to ask your question in the Phillips forum for your model. This is a Phillips issue. Only their software fixes can solve it. Even if you did buy another box you are not solving the problem, only ignoring it, which is in the televisions software itself. I note it is a 2011 model, so bought quite recently. I would be inclined to put it up to them in that you would be returning it.

    It might be the 250 - I get a slight lip sync issue when watching the x factor for example

    Guys,

    I want to update with my channell list that I have on the box and Ive never done it this way before; I mean Ive always just done it from scratch - but this time Ive added new stations to one of my sats (Astra 19) and want to add those stations to my channell lists without starting from the beginning.

    So Upgrade by USB - Upgrade Mode - then do I goto 'save channel list'? I see that under that I have a file called ch_list_20121202.bin - so is this the one I save to USB or or is it the one under Dump which reads DumpFile.abs?

    Thanks

    So you have 2 boxes of the same model No and want to copy the channel list of one box to the other box ?

    1. So get a USb stick, go to menu of box that you want to copy the channel lists from. Choose upgrade by USB, pick dumpfile down to start and it will copy that channel list to the USB stick (Dumpfile.abs).

    2. Now remove USB stick and insert in other box and upgrade by USB, choose
    UserDb, down to file (called Dumfile.abs) and start. Now your channel list from one box is copied to the other.
    OR
    2A. Note: In the event that the second box doesn't have the same firmware (as the first box) do an upgrade by USB and choose allcode+bootloader (instead of 2), choose dumpfile.abs and start and it will flash the channel list and the new firmware to the box.

    Dumpfile.abs files contain latest firmware and channel lists. You only need to do a allcode+bootloader in the event that the firmware on the receiving box is older.

    @pallant.

    Seems a lot of effort had been put in already. I'm assuming that it's a recently manufactured set. If still in warranty, surely a return is on the cards?

    Ha Ha, ain that the truth!,

    I have got sync issues on my 250, but I am using an external home cinema system and it happens if the AV equipment is on and then I turn the 250 on, connected using standard red/white av cables, i just turn the system on and off and it works fine, not all the time it happens, but it does

    @STB
    i am only explaining what happened with the philips tv here because i was asked to elaborate on it, i was here to see about a 250 because i bought one on the premise that it had an audio adjust setting which in fact it doesn't.

    @dodzy
    The tv was sent to an engineer who more or less sent it back to me in the same state so it seems that the lip sync for terestial tv on the set is within philips tolerences so i cant actually return it. Using HDMI with blu ray was fine so maybe that is how the tv is checked not via antenna in. When i bought the 250 and was now sending saorview and satellite tv via HDMI to the tv i figured i would get better results but they are not perfect and i could do with an audio sync adjustment. At this stage i dont think there are any combi boxes with such a setting because i can find no note to them on the net. The main problem is with the quality of the actual broadcasts, on saorview if you watch rte HD and you play around with the motion flow settings and audio out delay on the philips tv till you are happy with the sync and then switch over to lets say 3e you will notice that it is out of sync again. I may have never noticed the variance across channels if i hadn't of had such a sync issue initially which leaves me conscious of it. I dont think the tv is of great standard even being a 7 series but philips have told me they think the tv is fine so i no longer have any comeback with them. i was really hoping that the 250 would solve my problems, maybe i should try another combi box and who knows i might just get lucky.

    Late to this thread...

    I've seen an ad on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ferguson-Ariva-250-HD-Combo-Freesat-Saorview-Receiver-LATEST-MODEL-FULL-HD-/261053110727) for one of these items and it states:
    It lets you;
    Record Satellite , watch Terrestrial
    Record Terrestrial, watch Satellite
    Record Terrestrial, watch another Terrestrial (On same Mix)

    Is it able to:
    Record two Terrestrial stations simultaneously? (I assume so as you can record and view terrestrial simultaneously).
    Record a Terrsetrial station and then record a Satellite station without user intervention (or vice versa) - i.e. switch between input feeds automatically for recording?

    Thanks.

    Record two Terrestrial stations simultaneously? (I assume so as you can record and view terrestrial simultaneously) - No, only record one thing at a time. You can record any channel and watch any other.

    Record a Terrsetrial station and then record a Satellite station without user intervention (or vice versa) - i.e. switch between input feeds automatically for recording? Yes, you can set as many timers as you want for any channel you want and it will record them all as they come on but only one at a time.

    Looking for an amplifier splitter for saorview in 3 rooms. Would this be good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,251 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

    You know that thing will only transmit one channel at a time don't you? As in if BBC4 is on on the Saorview box it will be BBC4 on all the channels split off it in the other rooms aswell. I only ask because my relations recently bought these and asked me why they weren't working like they expected, I had to break the bad news to them:

    I'll only be using it for Saorview. We have two ferguson ariva boxes, and will be getting a saorview tv for the third room. It's the boxes that are changing/supplying the channels so it should work fine? Is it a good amplifier though?

    Guys can we stay on topic please, this thread is specifically for the Ariva 250, it will quickly become useless if we start discussing other items. The F140 amp will not work with an ariva as its designed for the powered RF output of a sky box.

    What? I have two Arivas and am trying to get them to work for me.

    I didn't know you own/moderate this thread?

    I see you edited it now with advice, cheers. I'm not going to a start a whole new thread on amplifiers.

    It's not off-topic in the slightest. I'm looking for amp/booster/splitter for a Ferguson Ariva 250 as my picture is breaking up with three feeds on saorview. This is where it should be posted IMO. Can't be starting new threads for everything as the forum would get clogged up with rubbish IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,362 ✭✭✭✭Tony

    There's no harm in doing that as your situation would apply to any set top box which needs saorview reception as the amplification happens before the box and others using other boxes might find it useful.The ariva 250 and combos in general do not have RF outputs. I had edited before your reply as there were typos :)
    I don't think starting threads should be discouraged and I don't agree it would clog up the forum but I guess we'll have to agree to differ on that point

    Do you have a hard drive or anything else connected to the box ?

    No. Im just talking about one 250 box. I want to take my channel list off the box using a usb stick. Put usb stick in computer. Add new stations from astra 19 into my favourite chanel lists/catergories. And then upload this back onto the box.
    Thanks

    THe Ferguson Channel Editor is a real PITA. If you have actually scanned the channels onto the box, they will be in the "all channels" list. If so, then you can select and copy multiple channels from this list to, say, one of the favourite slots, named "19 deg" for example and then save & re-upload to the box. If you have not scanned them in, and your plan is to manually enter all data in the "excel" styled ferguson editor, then forget it. The editor is very poor & absolutely as basic as it gets unfortunately.

    This is what I do

    1. On set-top box use Upgrade by USB
    2. Use the upgrade mode of 'Dump'
    3. This creates a file DumpFile.abs on the stick
    4. Open the editor on the PC
    5. Take the file open option
    6. Look in your usb stick and put * in the filename
    7. Choose the Dumpfile.abs file
    8. Pick user database and press OK
    9. Make your changes
    10. Take the file save option
    11. Pick user database and press OK
    12. Go back to the set top box
    13. Upgrade by USB
    14. Take the upgrade mode of 'Userdb'
    15. Pick the file DumpFile.abs

    I find the editor OK. It's a lot better that using the remote.
