Toshiba C660 Factory reset

    Hi, a friend has a Toshiba c660 laptop..that fell from about 2 feet. When starting the laptop it just loops..with the Windows 7 icon coming up on the screen so we decided to do a factory reset on it as there are no backup dics's made. Press the 0 key and power up but we are not getting the option for a reset....anyone got any idea what the issue might be?

    Hard drive is the most likely issue - I'd be hooking the drive up to another computer to save any data as a priority and then check for + repair errors with chkdsk .
    Assuming the HD is the culprit I'd be wary of loading OS (or anything important) on it in the future even if chkdsk repairs errors . Far better to pick up a new hard drive and know the laptop is running on a 'healthy' drive (although in the unlikely event the recovery partition is restored by chkdsk I'd give that a bash and burn recovery discs)

    I hooked it up and it seems to be broken as I'm not getting any showing up. There was nothing of any importantance on it as what she wanted was on an external drive.

    Glad there's no data loss :)

    You'll need to pick up a new 2.5 Sata hard drive and instal Win 7 on that . The C660 shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium , it seems - you can download an iso (disc image) from here . It's the x64 version of Home Premium you want. Save the file and burn to DVD disc with software of choice - be sure to burn as an iso and not as a data disc .

    When you run the instal the product key should be automatically detected - incorrect version will not activate - and you may be left with a few missing drivers . Windows Update and a visit to Toshiba support should sort out any loose ends though .
