Neil Delemare is one of the nicest guys you could meet.

Does that make him funny or not, I dunno? I think most comedians are ****e.

Personally I think there's a psychology to comedy, you've invested time or money to laugh and something, kinda like a placebo effect.

I'd say 99% of comedians are no more funny or even less funny than the funny guy in a typical group. They just got the balls or showmanship to do it. What makes some of them more popular to certain groups is more personal preference than them being funny per say.

I'd still say some of the 1% can be brilliant. Monthy Python, Spike Milligan, Billy Connolly (at their peak, brilliant) or perhaps the likes of Rich Hall, if you get him, but is that coming back to personal preference?

Agreed on that - it is a matter of taste....Connolly at his height and Milligan (lets throw in Peter Sellers) were in the realm of genius. Meeting comedians in person is never a good idea - most of them are manically depressed. Spike and Sellers would have been sectioned if they were in any other game.
Bill Hicks was just doing 1970s Billy Connolly for a US audience.
Still, can all agree the above gents do not belong in the same thread as Rosenstock, Gervais, Adam bloody Sandler ?
I still think Daniel O' Donnell is the best stand-up we ever produced.

Adam Sandler is abysmal, as are most female comedians (sorry, but it is true).

Can we give an exemption to Joan Rivers ?

Seems to me most stand up comeduans have a shirt run where they're very funny then they lose it fast. Best thing they can do at that stage is get a TV gig like Graham Norton where they can reel off a few jokes while maintaining their popularity.

Also Bill Hicks is pretty overrated IMO. We get it weed is good now tell some jokes.

I do like that black American guy, Reginald Dwight something.

No, it's not. It's just a lazy unfounded untruth that people like to peddle about. Bette Midler, Wanda Sykes, Issy Sutie, Meera Syal, Nina Wadia, Olivia Colman, Tamsin Grieg, Alison Stedman, Victoria Wood, Michelle Gomez, Jessica Stevenson, Zawe Ashton, Bebe Neuwirth for starters...

Andrew Dice Clay. Now that's a repulsive comedian.

    comedy snob?
Saying someone is a comedy snob because they don't like some of the comedians mentioned here is like saying someone is a manure snob because they don't like horse sh1t!

Was never a huge fan of ricky gervais, but some of his sketches are brilliant.

The ones he did with stephen merchant and warwick davis were hilarious i thought !

Gina Yashere is about as funny as standing on an upturned plug

    Mario Rosenstock is just awful.

Brendan Gleeson's ginger headed son and his excruciating 'comedy' sketches on RTE. Fcuking woefully bad.

It's already been said but Jack Whitehall has to be related to somebody. He's like every annoying young lad you meet at a house party.

Louis CK owes an awful lot to Bill Hicks. I still think he's very good though, definitely one of the best American comedians out there right now.

like what? Hicks took what guys like Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor were doing and took the next step, Louis's comedy isnt anything like Hicks, he makes jokes about himself and daily life not war and politics.

Yeah there's a lot of comedians I don't like who have already been named on here but honestly, does ANYONE find Jack Whitehall funny? How is he on tv? He's terrible.

Louis CK also makes me laugh harder and with far greater frequency than Hicks ever could.

Does anybody know any good examples of comedians bombing on live television? Like where the audience boo's them etc.

I don't know where you get the idea that he thinks he's amazing. He acknowledges in interviews that his humor isn't for everyone and he is his own niche really. I love how subtly he picks comedy apart and does his own thing with it.
He's like a bad tribute to Norman Wisdom

4 pages in and no mention of David McSavage? Shame on you, AH.

I was brought to see him once and the only funny thing about it was the hecklers. I'm not a violent person, but every time I see him I get the urge to smash his teeth in with a hammer.

I used to hate Philip Jupitus until I saw him doing stand up in a small pub in Kilkenny many years ago. Completely different to his NMTB persona.

I searched to see if he was mentioned and you were the only mention..

I was also brought to see him once, we got one of those coaches that bring you to a small country pub, or one on the outskirts etc..

He turned up instead of some other guy, and he had a hissy fit on the crates, started shouting at people (in a local pub) to shut up. Told to people to get out, and one of them was an old woman.. Then he refused to speak, gave up refusing after a second, and continued to (unfunnily) pick out people at random and using the same "slag" (You're from the Country, you wouldn't blah blah blah..") pointed at different people for about 5 minutes, until one guy shouted something at him, and everyone applauded... He left.

    Tosser.

Yes, but he was being through to form, as anyone who encountered this guitar abusing unfunny street busker on Graton Street will tell you.

Not being sarky. Genuinely sorry you wasted a night.
