Because online retailers use the reference artwork that the publisher provides to them. It's the publisher's fault. You could argue that they could update the image if they want once they receive the product but these guys have inventory lists that make the phone book look like a haiku. It's just not practical.

When in doubt, ask yourself this - what are the chances that the largest online retailer in the known universe has been supplied a special edition of a video game that does not support internet-based multiplayer where the standard edition does?

However, I know that at the core of everything you do is an overwhelming desire to do right by humanity. You have the power. On Amazon's page for that game you can upload your own images - the front of the case, the back of the case, you triumphantly punching the air after you headshot a german/afghan/russian/vietnamese/kazakh/albanian/mexican/who are we picking on this time? from 100 yards out with a melee shovel. Do it!

Re: The price you bought your WiiU for - note that the guy was asking about prices NOW, not prices THEN. Not all of us drive around town in a pimped up Delorean with a phone box strapped to the top. You're the special one. Unless you're planning to use your temporal powers for the benefit of all it's probably best not to lord them over the rest of us.

My favourite line from that movie:

I'm genuinely curious why you keep posting multiple pictures of everything when you mention something?

Question about using an external hard drive - does the Wii U have to format it (and if so, which file format?) in order for it to be read. I know the PS3 will only read storage formatted in FAT32.

It formats it to it's own custom encrypted file format and yes the entire drive has to be formatted.

...so when you say Encrypted, does that mean you can't move the HDD from one WiiU to another, and there's no convenient way to back up the contents?

That's exactly right all the data is locked to that one machine.

Ouch! Considering the pains in the arse I had with getting access to my data on my 3DS, that does not bode well. Does it encrypt saves on the NAND or can you move them to SD a la Wii and move them to another system if the mood takes you?

As far as I can tell the WiiU software can't actually see the SD card and it's purely there for compatibility.

amazon games some are good value some are not

for example Assassin's Creed 3 (Nintendo Wii U (PEGI Rating: Ages 18 and Over) from amazon = €54.16 but if I went to smyths toystore its now €54.99 - €2.50 for discount membership = €52.49.

ZombiU (Nintendo Wii U) (2012) - Nintendo Wii U (PEGI Rating: Ages 18 and Over) from amazon = €54.16 but if I went to smyths toystore its now €54.99 - €2.50 for discount membership = €52.49.

You can use USB SD card readers to make your SD card be picked up exactly like a hard drive.
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/150583680799 I used one like this for a while before I freed up a hard drive.

    This happened me Friday morning:
    CameraZOOM-20121214161356529.jpg
Screen cracked by sitting in its stand untouched overnight.

Where's the crack? probably didnt come out well in photo

Was it left charging? or just in the regular stand?

I didn't say it wasn't there... I said that the Wii U software doesn't seem to be able to detect the presence of an SD card whereas the Wii Menu can.

    Its almost bot-like

No it can't detect SD cards, only hard drives. It was said in, I think, a Nintendo Direct.

Ack, you need a drive dedicate to Wii U use so.

There's just so many details that keep springing up that make me think I won't be touching a Wii U for a very long time indeed.

In fairness not exactly 'springing up', it as mentioned weeks ago about the hard drive issue, they even had a Direct almost especially for it.

That's rough. Although i'm not too surprised. I had to get a new wii u since my last one bricked and now my new one's gamepad is creaky as fook. Hopefully you only have to replace the gamepad cause their europe customer service is dire and (as they told me in a nice email) you WON'T get downloaded content back. It takes them on average a week to get back to you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Its fairly unacceptable that you can't get paid for downloaded stuff back if your console fails surely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

I thought miiverse was supposed to move them to a customer account rather than hardware account system? That's fecking atrocious. Sometimes I'm glad I don't have the cash for a WiiU

One of the main, if only pluses about digital distribution, is that your stuff can be tied to an account & never lost or damaged

How long did the search take you? It must have been pretty tiring.
