For those who (like me) couldnt watch the game last night
    http://player.arsenal.com/

Regarding the clearout of players the same names keep cropping up, Arshavin, Chamakh, Santos, Bendtner, Djourou, but I dont think we would get a whole pile if any money for some of these, I guess if nothing else they would be gone off the wage bill and that would be a bonus in itself. Realistically would anyone buy Diaby with his fitness record...

We dont need a striker. To be honest a clear out is probably more important then a recruitment drive at this stage. Get the likes of Santos, Arshavin, Fabianski, Djourou, Bendtner (though we'll have to wait til Summer now), Diaby and Squillachi off the wage bill.

As for a defensive midfielder i think either Coquelin or Frimpong could well do the job there.

    Wot?

Lots of talk of David villa to us tonight

This is never going to happen by the way, he's on €170k a week at the moment.

    He's class though.

You're aware we've already played City and Chelsea, drawing the first and narrowly losing the second, arguably thanks to Wenger dropping that often wrongly maligned German centre-half you speak of.

Of course we won't score 5 every match. But we have players good enough to break too quick for most teams in the league, when they have the hunger and are directed to do so. Far too many times this season we've conceded set-pieces and cleared with hoofs giving possession straight back to the other team, and very often we concede in this position. I'd nearly say that's when we've conceded more than any other situation. The break down of those set-pieces is the critical moment when we play most PL teams, as it's the only time we get them out of their half in numbers. We must capitalise quickly and that means having the calmness and confidence in the back four to get the ball to one of the middle three around the edge of our box who have the vision to set a Chamberlain,Gibbs or Walcott away at pace. I've left out Ramsey and Gervinho as their slowness and sideways passes kill breaks and frankly drive me mental.

I've already said I think a few quality re-inforcements are vitally needed, but a lot of this stuff is simple tactical errors that can be fixed with the players we already have.

Could talk about this all day, let's see how the next three league games go, and bear in mind one place we want be seeing City or Chelsea is the draw for the next round of the Champions League. A bit of positivity never killed anyone.

You're setting yourself up for all sorts of HIV puns there!

I agree with pretty much all of your post though.

Apparently Sturridge has signed for Liverpool, so says twitter.
Does that now open the door for a Walcott to Chelsea move?

Haha hadn't thought of that. Which is either a good thing or a very bad thing, I can't decide.

According to young Chuba Akpom, AA scored a worldy in training today.

"The goal Arshavin scored in training today #stillshocked #crazy. Keeper throws it, first time overhead kick, top corner #wow".

Technical ability has never been his downfall in fairness, but I still think there should be plenty others ahead of him in the queue for the exit door.

Picking up a relatively unproven player on the cheap nearing the end of his contract? I think that'd be a bit too Arsenal for Roman's billions. Falcao or Villa more likely i would say... or both.

Champions League draw is Thursday. We can get Paris St-Germain, Malaga, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Bayern Munich or Barcelona.
Who do you guys want? I'd say on paper Malaga would be the 'weakest' opposition or possibly PSG. Still though. None of the potential opponents are what I'd call easy.

Can we get ourselves? That would be a good game. Two teams constantly gifting goals to each other.

I think our priority should be a striker and a CM, someone the like diaby as long as he don't break

Apart from Barca, Dortmund are the club i would fear most there. It's their beady little eyes, they freak me out.

According to the times huntelaar has opened talks with arsenal about a move but will be looking for 100k a week if arsenal pay this they either don't mind if Walcott moves or they just don't think he is worth the same money... Either way it opens a can if worms in regards the wage structure

Dont think there are any soft draws left in the CL. Watched a few of the Malaga games and they certainly would be no pushover at all

From the spoof BBC account on twitter

"BREAKING: Arsenal fans react to the news that Gervinho will be leaving for the African Cup of Nations in January. "

    Malaga
    PSG
    Juventus
    Dortmund
    Bayern
    Barca

would be my order of preference, even at that they are all tough games.

You all know we're gonna get Barca, don'tcha?

I have a strong feeling we'll get Barcelona. Malaga and PSG are the preferred options but both of them would be quite capable of putting us out.

This is what we get for putting out a weak team against an Olympiakos team who had nothing to play for- they were out of the CL and were guaranteed a Europa League spot, that game and 1st place really was there for the taking. No excuse not to top the table after being a top seed.

Lets face it, the top seeds will probably look at the second seeds and think "I hope we get one of Celtic, Galatasaray or Arsenal".

There's some pretty decent teams in pot 2 as well - who's to say we wouldn't have got Real Madrid after busting a gut to beat Olympiacos ?

    When's the draw?

Tomorrow lunchtime I think - if I'm wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected

Maybe, but leaving aside one off examples the standard of team in the top seeds is higher than those in the second seeds, and it also brings the added benefit of having the second leg at home. We got Real Madrid after topping the group in 05/06 and made it to the final. If we're going to get one of the heavyweights we'd be much better off getting the second leg at home.

Important to remember we couldn't have expected Montpellier to get a result against Schalke, we would have expected to come second by that stage regardless of our result.

I'm hoping for Dortmund so I can kill two birds with one stone, getting to my first Arsenal away CL game and getting a trip to the Westfalenstadion. Second to that would be Malaga for me. Purely from a going to the away leg point of view.

I'm pretty sure we're gonna get Barca though!

Do people think the same team from Monday will line up against Wigan? It would be great to see if it works again.
