I'm presenting facts. You're the one dealing in semantics and clutching at straws.

I'm waiting for you to back up your statement that "Catholicism is woven into the very fabric of the constitution. "

    A simple quote will do.

I was presenting a graphical presentation using analogous language. The fact remains. Church and state in this country are at times inseparable and I have provided plenty of quotes.

You said that that Savita died because of the voluntary inaction of doctors based on their individual religious beliefs.

To say you are presenting facts would be laughable if the circumstances weren't so tragic. Actually it's insulting.

    WTF?

Either back up your argument that "Catholicism is woven into the very fabric of the constitution." or admit that you are wrong.

I have backed up my argument enough times now, a courtesy you haven't even begun to show me.

Ok. I'll make it easier for you:

Which article in the constitution mentions Catholicism?

Answer me that and ill answer your questions

Well the law prevents abortion in this country. I assume that this is because of religous belief if nothing else?

If the doctor was using religious beliefs and practices as part of his treatment YES

If he used conventional medical practices to treat me and in his own private time worshipped a pigeon while naked and whipping himself with a belt NO I wouldn't refuse his treatment as it doesn't have any relation to my treatment

A religious doctor treating me! No problem.

A doctor using religion to treat me! That when we have an issue.

I have already shown you where religion / Catholicism is part of the state and constitution.

You can't defend your argument and are now resorting to distracting semantics.

This is the second "answer me first" type response you have posted. You do realise you can refute and respond to different points of an argument at the same time don't you?

prayer mats had to be put into the doctors rooms in james hospital to appease the muslim doctors, not so quick to accept crosses it seems though

Explain your use of the word "appease" and link to the story you mention. Specifically how crosses are not accepted whilst prayer mats are.

No you haven't. There is no mention of the Catholic Church in the constitution. There hasn't been since 1972 when the amendment to remove it was passed by over 80% of the electorate.

The simple fact is that in the eyes of the law, this is not a "Catholic Country".

Yeah I'd rather die clutching my Dawkins/Hitchens Bible than be treated by a religious doctor ... That'd show 'em!

I wouldn't refuse treatment from any qualified doctor irrespective of belief. I'm not bigoted in that respect.

Just for the craic I e-mailed the link to this thread to a friend of mine who is a member of the medical profession and also a lay minister in the church.
    This is his reply
Interesting stuff there, I think the attitude of most religious doctors can be summed up in the following old story

A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, "Jump in, I can save you."
The stranded fellow shouted back, "No, it's OK, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me."
    So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. "The fellow in the motorboat shouted, "Jump in, I can save you."
To this the stranded man said, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
    So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, "Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety."
To this the stranded man again replied, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, "I had faith in you but you didn't save me, you let me drown. I don't understand why!"
To this God replied, "I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?"

Now replace, rowboat, motorboat and helicopter with antibiotics, immunotherapy and vaccines. So none of us, however strong our faith would ever just sit around waiting for the Almighty to do the jobs he put us here for.
