Today I changed a bulb behind the centre console, one of them had blown and couldn't see the heater dial at night.

    Nice facelift E11 corolla. :)

BTW... Do you have 2 stereos in there? Or it's a 2DIN one?

Put in new bulbs in the octavia, osram night breakers. Seems they are "good tack".

Just finished putting all my cleaning materials away.......fmp! :D. Power hosed, 2 bucket method, power hosed again, dried with microfibre towel. Polished with SRP and waxed with collinite 476. Took me 2.5 hours, it was cold but as soon as I started buffing I was warm and it didn't bother me :). That's it for this year, she'll be washed in the spring next. :)

Re: red courteousy leds...ordered 2 more...deal extreme gave me store credit for the faulty one so happy days :)

Changed the regplate LEDs again...much brighter with the new ones although the old ones were quite acceptable, just the board is much better for this setup

That looks excellent, the glow on the ground even looks the business - nice changes man :)

No idea how get my front badge out safely to add the new red one (mmmm chrome) so I'll leave it for another day with more light, heat and... patience!
Got it out by pulling out the front grill and undoing a 10mm nut - looks great on the grill on it's own but once I put it back on the car, I honestly wasn't much of a fan :(

Because it was dark - it looked like it was debadged and I really liked the look so I'm contemplating getting a new de-badged grill (€30) and change the back badge to red (works better on the rear as you can see below). That's not my car (as the plates give away) but exact same model and is also de-badged so it looks identical here.

Have one in my watch list, can't justify the smaller rear badge being €20 when the front cost half of that.

After quite a few months of trying to find a replacement gear knob for my car (mk1 facelift Merc A class) I finally got one.

What a bloody pain to change. After fighting the old one trying to get it off I had an even bigger fight getting the new one on. The gaiter wouldn't click in so I had to tweak it a bit and smack it in.

Sorry for the crap pics, its quite dark and had to use flash.

Before - very worn and not so clear gears

After - nice n fresh. Looks much darker in real life.

    That's a Merc?!

When I first saw the pics I thought it was a Yaris or something like that!

Yeah, it is. Bad pictures and it was the baby in the Merc family. Definitely not a yaris though.

Stripped the head off a knockaty knocka mitsi evo 4, 8 bent valves no spring in the belt tensioner. And the bottom end is nipping up. More fun tomorrow.
Anybody got a rough idea what kind of price the valves go for? 4 inlet 4 exhaust.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

    Prob about 10 - 15 a valve.

Get the head checked, the stems might be damaged

Fitted two part worn snow tyres to the front of the good ladies car today. 235/45/17s up from 215s. Bit of a difference in comfort and I was worried that they'd rub the arches but no problems there at all. Couldn't say no to two Michelins at 40 quid for the pair, even if they are slightly to big. Gotta love mates rates.

My PLX Kiwi2 arrived after being re-routed around Europe seven times. It's essentially a WiFi dongle that plugs into the car's OBDII port and using the appropriate iOS application, can pull out various pieces of information and log them. I've mine setup to read speed, revs, intake temperature, boost, coolant temperature, WHP, Torque, Fuel, MAF, MAP & Load. It's pretty handy considering a lot of modern cars have done away with temperature gauges. It also reads and can clear error codes :)

I picked up a cheap bluetooth OBDII dongle on amazon a while back. It'll do a similar job. Tis a handy piece of kit.

Many moons ago I picked up a heap of an E34 with quite a paintjob...

Time to recycle the lights, considering I have another set anyway

Changed my glow plugs to get rid on an intermittent fault, found that the insides of my front tyres were down to the wire. :( Tracking might be off, so off came the nankangs and I got 2 224/40/18 Goodyear Eagle F1's for 140 each. Plus tracking.

Nankangs came with the car, never trusted them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭Harcrid

You may need more than the tracking done. You drive an Octavia don't you? I have a MK II and had the same problem with front tyre wear even though the tracking was spot on so had to get a full four wheel alignment done. Keep an eye on them and see how they are wearing.

Got a set of part worn Winters fitted yesterday and today I sorted out my radio wiring. The radio wasn't going off with the ignition and there was no radio reception. Turned out the aerial wasn't even connected! Had to disassemble the center console to retrieve it. Also swapped around a bunch of wires in the ISO-Radio adaptor. Broke one of the pins too so I fashioned a new one by squashing some 1.5sq mains wire in a vice!

The radio is a strange chinese job with loads of bells and whistles. It's this one. I will probably replace it eventually as it looks kind of naff. It does however have an input for a reversing camera which is an interesting possibility.
