That Dan Smith tackle ended any hopes he had of every making it into the world class or excellent category. He's a good player, but inconsistent. I swear that Liverpool match is giving everyone a rosy memory of him. I've seen numerous games where he's been piss or hidden.

How often have we seen him fully fit though ? - it always feels as if he's just a game or 2 away from being fully match fit before he falls over in a heap again. Deeply frustrating but we never really saw what he was capable of

We need to stop looking down at players like this because they don't play for a top side, that's the problem,I would take tiote in a second,ba yes if it wasn't for his knee rumours.

Ba is one of the top strikers in the league at the moment ffs. If it wasn't for his injury record he'd be perfect. As for Tiote, he's not the finished article but I think a player like him could sort our midfield out.

Agreeing or I wouldn't have been praising the players! :)

That's what I thought alright, anyway as much as I hate to say it,we will probably end up with henry,at the end of january!

Personally I don't think either are the solutions we need, or should be looking at. There's zero chance of Wenger buying Ba. He's a decent striker but with his exploding knee I think it's fair to look elsewhere. Tiote could do a Flamini-esque job, nothing wrong with that, but I'd rather a bigger man to partner Arteta. Luis Gustavo springs to mind. It will probably be Yanga-Mbiwa though.

Tbh it's the forward positions that still need strengthening more than anywhere, we are not creating or taking enough chances. I'm still gonna hold out for a top, top class striker like Cavani and a top class creative talent like Goetze on my dream list, which, knowing Arsenal, will only ever be daydream stuff.

Isn't Flamini's deal with Milan up next summer??

If he still has the legs I'd have him back, in January.
Though I cant see Arsene bring him back with Le Coq maturing nicely

Just imagine this line-up. How much would it cost?

    Szcz
    -Sagna/Jenks--Mert--Kos/Verm--Baines/Gibbs-
    Arteta----Gustavo/Wilshere
    -Goetze/Ox----JW/Goetze/Cazorla-Cazorla/Pod-
    Giroud/Cavani

I've used players more than once who can play a few positions.

Those signings would come in around the €100m mark, which isn't outrageous in this day and age or considering the cash in reserve at Arsenal.

The standard of possible signings on here is depressing, we shouldn't be looking at players like Tiote and Ba if we want to get back to the top.

Exactly. we should be looking to gt Falcoe in

I've heard that we had €70 million that went unspent in the summer despite being available. Probably BS but shameful for a club of our stature if true.

You're talking ~£15-20m (€18-€25m) for Baines. You'd never get Gustavo off of Bayern and even if you could he'd still be upwards of €25m. Goetze and Cavani I would be absolutely amazed if you got both for less than €70m. Its football manager stuff tbh. Not knocking you, if Arsenal had cash reserves like that in FM I'd be hoovering that talent up too. FM isn't reality though. :(

Don't forget all their wages too. We have to acknowledge that a lot of them players mentioned are out of our reach atm until our wage structure changes, which I can't see happening anytime soon.

As a matter of interest. How long has our current wage structure been in place?? When was the last time it was upped??

Last time I checked he was hardly getting his game there. He wanted more money over guaranteed first team football, thats what he got. One good season and he fcuked off, sound familiar?

    A lot!

Dont know enough about Gustavo to give a proper estimate but Baines would be in excess of £20m, with Goetze and Cavani probably in excess of £30m. Thats not even taking in to account the wages they would want. We'd have to sell the stadium to keep the finances in order!

Gustavo has a buyout clause in his contract rumoured to be €10-15m.

I think the lot would come in around the 100m mark tbh, and given how unlikely Goetze is going to be prised from Dortmund's grasp this soon, the other 3 at €60-70m wouldn't or definitely shouldn't be FM stuff for a club of Arsenal's stature.

Arsenal is one of the only clubs in England which has no significance to an area city etc,its just a name for a football Club.

Another interesting/useless fact is that Arsenal & Port Vale are the only two clubs in the english top leagues with names that you can't find on a map

port vale was there on old maps but not anymore

They're quality, proven PL players the both of them, far better than anyone at the club now in their positions

Who do you think the club should be looking to sign

He's supposedly not being used at Bayern as much as he'd like & could be available

Everton aren't from Everton are they?

For a team 14th in the league, why aren't we targeting some Fulham players? Ba won't settle and apparently is a timebomb injury-wise. Tiote is a thug.

Very interesting (if true) that Bouldy was forced upon Arsene, Who forced it?
Was Gazidas making a power play on Arsene to let him know he's the boss.

I only caught part of the interview and even then couldn't listen to it.
I think Kronke/Gazidas need to step up, lead the club, give it direction.
Let them deal with the finances and let Arsene do what he does best.

The problem is they may see it as a money making venture whereas a lot of owners see it as a status symbol which can be allowed lose money.
+1 on the whole France thing, the league is a shadow of its former shadow

Was it ever that great ?
    p.s. Welcome back

    Thanks.

Still heaps of players in France who could improve our squad - value to be had too - very much doubt he'll stop shopping there

Most of his latter French related buys have been flops.
I don't think signing them to a 4/5 year deal that gives them 40 to 60k plus a week has been good for the club.

I think people need to realise Arsenal is no longer at the top table from the point of view of spending power.
And I know the club is highly financially rated but that means nothing when you win nothing and don't pay rates that the competitors pay.

Arsenal's stature is now that of a club that guarantees nothing much more than perennial champions league football (and yes i know that is major achievement in itself) and the ultimate sale of their best players.
It is no longer the biggest club in London. it is no longer a club that wins or even challenges for trophies.

Arsenal is now a club that buys some possibly useful players, plays them for a few years improving their craft and then once they are proven we can watch the boys with the big bucks, who are the real challengers, step in and take them.

I am not allowed discuss …

Ehh there is a place called Everton and afaik that was where they started.

I think you would find more teams in the Scottish PL that have names not related to place names.

Any player you guys wish we had held onto recently? (not the obvious ones like Fab, Van Persie etc)

Often thought Wenger should have kept Eduardo though he deserved to be playing every week which we couldnt offer, Eboue too went for very little iirc

Song is a big loss in the midfield.

I think the 70 million is bull**** as we seem to have had that for the last 3 years but never spent it. It's a smokescreen to fool the fans and buy time in my opinion. We would be taxed on it if it wasn't spent so why is it not spent?

January will tell the tale. We will see where the ambition lies then. January is "die dog or s*** the licence" time for Arsenal.

I, for one, am fed up of the situation at Arsenal and of the lack of ambition at the club. There is something wrong with a EPL club when a manager can come out and say that he was not too disappointed at a loss to the likes of Bradford, especially when he fielded a full strength team. In my opinion he knew it was his best shot at an elusive trophy when he chose that team.

You can fool some of the people some of the time .........

70 million being honest probably equals transfer fees, agent fees and players wages for the duration of their contracts should we buy big. It sure isn't 70 million on transfers alone!

With the transfer window opening soon and us needing a few players, if yous were to pick 3 players to sign who would yous like to see wearing The Arsenal jersey. Personally id try sign the following.

    Fabio Contreaou
    Daniel De Rossi
    Pedro.

Are we supposed to be realistic here or are we allowed to drift into a dream world?
I honestly think we will get Henry, and maybe another player for under the 10 million mark. I've just given up hope that Arsenal would ever try to fix a problem area(s).

A bit of both we can all dream of who we'd like to sign :-D

Id love to get De Rossi most of all of the above players he would add that bit of steel that is severey lacking in our midfield/team.

Can't see De Rossi leaving Roma. Unless they get relegated and even then I wouldnt be convinced.

Couldnt agree with you more. Its not just the lack of spending power at the club that bothers me but the whole attitude and mentality of the people that run AFC is very worrying in my opinion. I dont have any confidence in the Club as a whole at the moment and everyone involved there.
