@ Shadow; could be worse, I paid €1100 for two 7970's 5 months back, the same cards can be got for €380 ish now-that's the way it goes though.

So sorry I didn't go for an X79 board, would be worth getting a third card now.:)

indough's got a good point, why not flog it to someone who wants a 680 for CUDA friendly apps, should surely get €400 for it.. and put €180 with that & you're looking at a pair if 7950 royalKings within budget.

On the plus side you can now go 3-way crossfire and get another.:D

aye, royal kings are just pure sexy m8. two of those Oced would be awesome. I will see how it goes. so far its more of a "first world problem" :P. i still play everything maxed out at 1080p, though if i am going to 1440p i dont really want to start playing with settings. i am just waaay to lazy and got used to - maximum? well dont mind if i do! :P

Unfortunately not-my board is a Sabertooth Z77, but my CPU is a 2500K so its PCI-e 2.0 bandwidth limitations.:(
I would need an Ivy bridge CPU to get PCI-e 3.0 because if I go tri-sli I'd need the extra PCI bandwidth. Also I would not be able to fit the sound card, so stuck with dual cards till I upgrade the mobo & CPU.

edit: ^^another first world problem! If I was to sum up my PC upgrading aspirations in one word it would be 'more':D

Has anyone ordered from HWVS with UPS in the last few weeks? I just ordered a prodigy build (:D) for a Christmas present, but I'm not sure if it's going to get here in time. They normally take 5 working days with DHL, but this is only 7 working days from Christmas Weekend :(.

So, how long did they take? I swear to god if it's more than a week I'm going to be majorly peeved, but not as much as the proposed recepient :(.

Specs for anyone interested (I'm going to do nice photoshoot when they come)
    • Pentium G860
    • AsRock H61-ITX
    • 4GB RAM (1333 I think)
    • HD7750 V2 (With 6-pin)
    • Be-Quiet 430 watt
    • DVD Drive
    • 500GB WD Blue
    • White Bitfenix Prodigy
I would've went for an FM2 build, but none of the motherboards were in stock and I need it ASAP.

In other news, a Vapor-X 7950 arrived at my doorstep today along with a new PSU and NZXT braided cables :D.
also have a prodigy build on the way. HWVS emailed me to say the asrock z77e-itx is out of stock :(

i might have a cheaper source on those shuttle boards, i didnt really want to say anything till mine arrived and i could give you a total cost (just in case it doesnt work out) but there does appear to be something on the cards :)

speak up now cause I can still cancel my board while its out of stock!

I hate you. I just put my 600T build together, for ****'s sake! :P

cool, pm sent. basically i tried a few american shuttle outlets and this guy eventually got back to me and said he had asked shuttle do they mind him shipping internationally, they said no but they just dont do it. he quoted me 30 dollars above their price. for my board shuttle were asking 145$, he asked for 175 and put the whole cost down to them but i didnt mind as obviously he has to make a few dollars from it. he has been leaving it a bit between contacts when i ask him things but does eventually get back to me. atm im waiting on an answer as to whether i can get the i/o shield thing as ive no idea where else i could get one.

It's just dawned on me that basically everything is still usable for the Prodigy - namely the two rads and blocks.

Do we know that Phobya's 200mm rad will still fit in the front with that longer board? Pretty sure it will fit, as I'd guess the X79 board is - if anything - longer than the Z77 one.

@indough: Do let us know if/when you pay for it what it's likely to come out at (inc. customs if any, etc.) as I'm quite interested.

definitely mate, im supposed to be selling a camera tonight which was to fund it so i was hoping to have it paid for tonight, im just waiting on him to get back to me about the i/o shield thing for the back (if that even what it's called)

    Cool (and it is, yeah).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

the gtx690 can't be converted to single slot pci bracket so I think I'm going to bow out at this point. its not off the books for the future though.

also if you don't know already, you'll need a Sandy bridge CPU to update the bios to run ivy, even though its z77.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Surely you could get someone with a saw/dremal/whatever to just cut the bracket?

I didn't, might have to make a new friend in the next while if I go ahead with this. :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,979 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

its got a DVI port in the way, and I'm not cutting that off cause I'll need it for my 3rd catleap if I ever get that far.

I'm sure I could organise a 2500k or g620 if you're ever in the area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Ah, it's done like that, right, so not really an option then.

As it turns out, I'm probably going to leave it as well, unfortunately. Max PSU length is 160mm, and that's what my Platimax is, plus modular cables. I could drill a hole in the necessary panel and everything would probably fit fine, but I don't have a drill, and it would already be a pain to have to put my watercooling on hold, sell motherboard and case, wait for new board, etc.

It's a shame I never thought of the Shuttle board earlier when I was initially considering the Prodigy, as I probably would have tried to make it work. It's just a bit late in the game at this point, plus I can't be sure of getting enough money back for it to be affordable.

im a bit worried about the psu thing too, im going to go with the seasonic 520 fanless which is also 160 even though ive heard it is a very tight fit. ive read a few build where theyve gotten one that size to work but it isnt easy

Well if you're going to be removing the front hard drive cages, it leaves a tonne of space in front of the PSU, so all that needs doing is drilling a hole in a panel for the cable to get through. Fanless PSU would be cool though.

Damn it, now you're making me want to re-do the build! **** **** ****!
