The 2 holder channels for BT Sports are now listed on the Sky EPG - on 445 & 447 under the alias of Sailing 1 & 2.

Assume the gap is for HD variations

As the channels are after launching on the Irish epg I suppose we can take it that BT are interested in launching in both the UK and Ireland.

I'm a bit confused. In the UK the "BT vision" box uses internet and a TV aerial connection to provide TV and on demand TV.

Now they are starting to broadcast via Satellite. Can the satellite signals be picked up by existing BT vision customers or what is the purpose?

Also what encryption, if any, will be used and will a Sky branded box be needed to decode them?

If it is using a Sky box then is it like Setanta?

Is there a new version of the BT vision box with Satellite?

To answer my qn it seems as if this is a seperate product from BT vision. It will run using the Sky platform (much like Setanta). This will allow existing people with Sky boxes the option to pay extra to watch BT rights owned matches.

It seems to be aimed at those currently on Sky to allow them to watch matches that BT have bought all the rights to, and Sky are not allowed to show live.

Assuming they have the rights to the same matches in ROI and UK I assume anyone with the right box can ring them up and sign up.

We haven't heard what the story is with the ROI Premier League rights yet though it was expected to be announced before Christmas so it can't be too long now.

However think of BT Sports as having the same relation with BT Vision as Sky Sports has with Sky Digital - it will be on that platform but not exclusive to that platform, so just as Sky Sports is available on UPC, BT Sports will be available on Sky Digital, in the UK at any rate (and probably in Ireland, but that hasn't been confirmed yet).
