My old hatchback is just about on it's last legs. I saw this offer on Friday when i called in to kill an hour. I was going to wait until the new year and buy new witha 20K ish budget. Is it a great saving? The car has been registered by the garage and I'll probably loose most of the 1st years warranty. I would probably change up to a saloon now. Reckon I could get a few more € off it if they thought I ws realy serious.

Christ almighty that has to be the dullest most non descript car I've seen in a long time. Are those hubcaps?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,957 ✭✭✭blindside88

I like the insignia but who puts hub caps on a 2012 car, is there a tape deck? I'd be asking them to throw in a set of alloys anyway

Every maufacturer does as its the entry level model so you get nothing fancy.

not the most reliable car but then you do have the warranty and bit hard on the fuel too

Anything but the S model. You do know that every other model in the range has built on nav, but they leave it out of the S to make it one of the dullest places on earth.

    This Insignia comes well equipped

    You cheeky b@stids...

It's dull as a foggy night sky in October. I didn't think they still sold the S.

That said...it does have cruise control and air con. There's a reason there are way more S specs than others too, that being nobody wants them, hence the price.

That's a total poverty spec car with nothing going for it, it would do a Paddy spec Toyota proud with its (lack of) spec. Try and get an SC as a bare minimum, ideally an SE.

I actually kinda like the exterior styling - but the centre console is atrociously ugly, that particular one has (almost) zero optional extras and as for asking €25,000 for a car with no alloys....just no.

They are also small enough inside and I found them a little rattly too.

For that money look at a Mondeo or even a Mazda 6. New models of both out soon and deals are sure to be had.

Thanks for the comments, I might stay well clear of it at that price so. Apart from the mondeo & mazda 6, what other cars would you recommend for around 20-22K. Would you get a new 13 of a decent spec mazda or mondeo say for that price if there are new models out next year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,830 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

From looking recently a basic new 6 is available to dealers for 22k. It will be very basic though. New Mondeo 1.6 style was 23.3k straight but missed out on essentials like cruise control on climate control.

I'd hold tough for a while, there is a new octavia due in March. Supposedly bigger than the smallish version now. They seem to have a decent spec at the moment so it should be improved on with a new model, at least on the safety front. Also, I can't see the new saloon Astra flying out the door. Pity as it's a nice looking car.

If ever there was a car that the colour and spec made a huge difference to it is the Insignia. Hatch looks betther than the saloon as well I think.

drop a year and get a higher spec.

You could get a 2012 avensis in aura or maybe strata spec for that money with cruise, air con etc.

these are coming up regularly on the merlin car auction lists, seen a 2011 one go for €10,500 two weeks ago, can’t remember mileage but remember it wasn’t high.

That's also a poverty spec car, a little less bad than an Insignia S, but still it has hubcaps (despite what the ad says), keep fit windows and only basic a/c! No cruise either. If you're interested in an i40 OP, get the Executive model - that has all the important bits as standard. Premium models have leather and satnav as standard.

What are the I40 like to drive? Seem to have plenty of bells and whistles :)

Seems too cheap at that price? So its lost around 12k?

Very capable with little to offend. I was deterred only by the amount of road noise and the rather cheapo looking blue illumination on everything at night.

    OP,
That Insignia offer from Joe Duffy is not very good in my opinion for the basic model .

I bought a pre reg 12 Insignia from another Opel Dealer earlier this year and got a lot extra on my deal for not far off the price Joe Duffy is offering on what your looking at.
If you want to Pm me, i will pass on the name of the dealer i bought mine from (not sure if i can openly post it ) , but found them good to deal with and got the SC model out of them in the end for a good price as far as i was concerned.
The wheel trims on that Joe Duffy car are truly shocking, if you can spend the extra few quid on the alloys or like somebody else said " haggle " it as part of the deal.

Its later in the year now so you could haggle an excellent bargain for a pre reg 12 sitting on a dealer forecourt.

I visited Joe Duffy Opel and their level of interest in me as a customer and knowledge about the car i wanted was shocking to say the least.
I left after 5 minutes with my wad of cash in my back pocket.

Why not look at Audi A3 like this one. I'm sure they will be trying to move them with the new model out now
