Ya, they're totally geared towards the traffic coming off the motorway so if your coming in the N17 your stuck in a tailback out to the Citroen dealership.

They've got budgets to squander! Public institutions are punished for saving money so they're wasting it left, right and centre at the moment. We got a free driveway at work they where so desperate to waste as much tarmac as they could before the end of the year.

Leitrim got their first set of traffic lights in 2003.

Go ask the nerds in the Roads forum for a laugh.

Leitrim replaced them with pedestrian lights a year or two ago.

But the thing is Roscommon's roads are still dreadful, even with all the budgets they're trying to get rid of !

The amount of my life I have lost at them damn level-crossing lights in Castlerea make up for the rest of the county's lack of traffic lights.

is that true about leitrim having no lights too, it means were not the only ones so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,234 ✭✭✭✭Cee-Jay-Cee

Theirs pedestrian lights alright but no traffic lights. I think thetes traffic lights in Carrick so that rules leitrim out, as for athlone those lights are in westmeath

Is Carrick -on-Shannon not in Co. Shannon? Leitrim doesn't actually exist, it's simply a place parent in Sligo scare their kids with by telling them they'll be sent there if they're bold.

No its in Leitrim. Although anyone I know from there claim that its in Roscommon.

Even Leitrim people dont like being from the place.

    :D

They should get rid of leitrim alright, sure the road to roscommon is the only good thing to come out of it

On the way into Athlone beside the Army barracks, Roscommon has traffic lights

Probably none left in the country because the fúckers in Sligo County Council have bought them all. We're wall to wall traffic lights here, even Bono wrote a song about it when he got stuck here (it was originally called City of Blinding Traffic Lights).

Yeah, you're right, where you can turn right into Battery park. I'd bring it up on google maps but I haven't a clue how to.

I'm pretty sure the county boundaries were changes a while back, bringing all of Athlone south of bypass into Westmeath.

See the OSI map here..... http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,603425,741111,5,10

The county boundary is the very light line that leaves the Shannon south of the town at the canal mouth, and goes diagonal across to R246 at Monksland.

I never actually knew that! I know there was a lot if confusion regarding people's addresses like 'Athlone, Co. Roscommon' vs. 'Athlone, Co.Westmeath, especially when registering for things. At least it's clear now!

Theres no trafficlights in Co.Cavan either that i know off...The council just stick in roundabouts beside roundabouts to make a mess of everything.....If the council had it there way....They wouldn't be turned on because of "Cut backs"...

Yeah it was only done for postal reasons. West of the Shannon is Roscommon.

It's not just postal reasons, Westmeath County Council are now responsible for the roads/water/sewerage there as well.

It was nothing to do with post. It was administrative.

    Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898

    County of Roscommon

The existing judicial county of Roscommon less the portions of the towns of Athlone and Ballinasloe situated therein
Part of the judicial county of Galway (Rosmoylan ED)
Part of the judicial county of Mayo (Ballaghaderreen, Edmondstown EDs)

    County of Westmeath

The existing judicial county of Westmeath
Part of the judicial county of Roscommon (the portion of the town of Athlone situated therein)
