    Did anyone on here get offered this course? What were the points? Are you going to accept it?

    is it any good was looking at it for next year? what kind of course is it , lecturers ect

    So far so good, we have done entry level coaching badges for soccer gaa and athletics.

    there are a few modules we do just to fill out the course (I.T. , Communication skills) but the lecturers that count are good, they really know their stuff, I would definately recommend it

    I got an offer to this course and i went into the IT to speak with the head of department and they really didnt advertise the course much, you cant really go on and do another good course or even get a decent job, seems a bit pointless, but i suppose if its something you enjoy you may aswell, it just depends on the person.

    How far does the badge certification go ? and wtf is communication skills ?

    Is there much writing as it being sports thee must be loads of practical

    Was in lynn ramsey you were talking to? she is the head of the dept and when i spoke to her in august she really knew her stuff,
    as for not being able to do an add on course or get a job that simply isnt true, at the end of the day its a sports science degree and in many ways the same as dcu offer, you can do alot from becoming a fitness instructor to coaching european football, or you can do h.dip in PE teaching and do that, sport is universal language so can use it to travel the world.

    badge certification goes up to eec level 2 which is uefa B in soccer,
    you specialise in a sport in 3rd year.

    Com. skills is where they teach the difference in writing a school essay and an academic assignment, very basic stuff,

    we have just finished our first assignment which was 2000 words but its very simple stuff at the start, 3 hrs of practicals per week, but thats out of 15 so 20% is practicals. but you dont have to be very fit to start out.

    What are peoples opinions on future job prospects after this course,would they be fairly limited?

    Fairly limited. After all, it is a coaching course, with a limited array of sports and business modules. If you want to coach then go and undertake the relevant classes instead of wasting four years gathering basic badges in a plethora of sports activities. I completed this course with a distinction and the vast majority of the class have no direct work from this course. Without progressing onto a Masters course, you have no area expertise to attain any respectable job that you couldn't have attained without the qualification. Sports psychology and technology are the only modules that offer a challenge in the course. It lacks substance and depth, something they have been trying to fulfill over the past several years of the course. They have yet, and will not, get the approval to run the 3 missing modules to become a PE teacher...find out what you really want to do in life, and go and do it!!

    Thanks for the reply Wizzy2011.Why no approval to run those modules to become a PE teacher?
    Strongly thinking of giving this course a miss now.

    To be honest, they've given so many reasons over the past several years, I can't give you a definitive answer. The standard is well below par, in comparison to Limericks PE course and they must be doing something wrong when their proposals to introduce these modules into their curriculum are declined point blank every time. Every year the course 'changes' but realistically it's the same award that needs to be upskilled with a masters course of your choice.
    Before making the decision to leave, I strongly advise you to go and get advice from your year head and have a chat with the head of department. You are better off knowing all the facts if you make the decision to leave, rather than live to regret your decision in the future.
