Lights always on in the Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service

    The "Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service" offices, in Burgh Quay, has most of its lights almost always on, day, night, and even during the weekends, even if nobody is working.

    Shouldn't they be trying to save on energy costs? (which in the end are paid from our taxes) - Not to mention the light pollution.

    Is that difficult to put some kind of timer that turns off the light at night and during the weekend? Or in a manual way: the last person leaving turning off the lights.

    I see the lights day and night, every time I look. They can't possibly spend the whole night and the whole weekend cleaning.

    They did a bunk 6 years ago and went to Spain. Forgot to turn off the lights they were in such a hurry. No-ones been in there since. I heard they just opened the barriers to everyone and pegged it. I always thought they looked a bit dodgy.

    If someone broke in and tripped over a filing cabinet in the dark they'd be wide open for an expensive compensation case.

    By leaving the lights on they are saving the country money, not wasting it.

    Are 'light pollution' and 'noise pollution' really forms of pollution, or are they political correctness gone med?

    Pollution to me suggests something harmful to the environment and long lasting.

    Under the CPA the staff are no longer obliged to turn off the lights, since turning them on is not included in their job descriptions. Updating the job description would involve total payments of €500k apparently, so someone figured it would be cheaper to leave them on.

    They have to spend the budget, or they won't get it all next year!


    Maybe there is no one trained to the right grade to turn off lights, or they want an extra allowance to do it - I'd estimate 6 light switch engineers and 24 advisers would be needed

    Either that or the guy whose job it is to turn off the lights is on off on long term sickness, and they are unable to replace him due to the recruitment embargo.

    It's a mixture of political correctness gone med caused by left wing pinko liberalism.

    Of course all of this was started by the Vikings, it was a tradition back then to leave the lights on.

    This is sad news.

    I think they should be shut of when they are not needed - and sooner rather then later. There little point in having lights on that have no need to be on.

    Maybe it's because the area is better lit up so internal CCTV can be more effecitve, (just a tought) but a lot of department stores do that.
