Why does so many people have problems with long hair?

I have long-ish hair and honestly, every time I go out I have with some amount of shit from people. Some of them are my friends some of them don't even know me. Its coming from 50% men and 50% women. I can put up with it no bother, but I am starting to really get sick of hearing it so thats why I'm starting this thread.

Whats everyones opinions on men having long hair and why do you think it bothers people so much?

personally even though it might be 4ft, it might be 4 inches, i still vote for option 3. Couldnt really give a tòss..

plenty of ppl i know have long hair and i don't remember them
having the piss taken for it. sometimes its funny if the hair style is
mullet-like(actually thats always funny) but its still their hair to do
whatever they like with it!

1. It annoys women because most of them find it unnatractive for men to have long hair.

2. It annoys some men because they are the subset of the gneder who never had the guts or the individuality to grow it long themselves and they resent you for reminding them of their conformist attitudes. Also they may feel sexually threatened by a man with long hair due to their own sexual ignorance.

3. Some people are just intolarant of anyone who don't fall into their idea of how people should look and act. If you didn't have long hair they'd still be having a go at you for being too fat, or too skinny, wearing the wrong clothes, or having glasses or choosing to go to college after the L.C. instead of working .... or whatever. Since long hair in men is more marginal than the aforementioned they go after that characteristic first.

4. Some people think they are being friendly by jibing other people for their differences.

It actually looks good on them..some not all ..why not? its their hair..would think it annoys some men..hehe b/c they have none..nor the guts to do it ..becuase their a bunch of puss in boots.

I've longish hair now, but i used to have an afro which believe me attracted some attention on a 6ft6 lanky, white irishman.

I've gotten more women with my long hair than with my "4 on the back and sides trim the top".

I recently went for the chop - before that my hair was almost a foot long, and I swear I never stopped getting a ribbing for it. People kept saying the same crap over and over again, and I was fed up of it.

I think they thought there were being funny or that I would immediately go and get it done just because of the crap that they were spurting out. About a month or so ago I really stopped caring and decided it was my life and I didn't have to put up with it, so I started telling people to get lost (not necessarily using those words). Doesn't mean that it still didn't piss me off, I just didn't take it to heart as much.

I think it was more that people just didn't want to let me live outside the norms that society has put in place for it. Now I just keep getting a pat on the back for "being sensible". They get a bit flustered when I tell them quite frankly that the only reason I got it cut was because my grandad died and as I had to take a bit of an active part in the funeral I cut it as a sympathy gesture for my father, who was really close to his father. Which is the truth.

It disgusts me that I wasn't able to get any piece to do what I wanted to do, and now that it's undone, I'm still basically getting grief. I guess they don't realise that I'm gonna be growing it again as of now.

I, personally, like men with long hair. Or short hair. I don't really care, as long as they have some personality, and tolerate my apparently abysmal taste in music.

BUT: my preference would always go to men with long hair. Its nice. Mmmmm. When you think about it, its only dead cells gowing out of yer head, isn't it?

I get slack for being *cough* the age I am and having long long hair, I recently got it cut for being slagged about it, and man, am I sorry I did. Its all heading towards my elbows again, so no harm done.

But if long hair is what you want, and it makes
you feel okay when you look in the mirror, then dammit, so be it. Its not their life, it's yours, and live it whatever way you want.

Oh yeah, and there really is something more masculine about a guy with long hair. Its like all the men with short hair are like 'Rrraaarr, heterosexual, me, mad for it. Look at me short hair. Rrraaarr'

Whereas men with long hair, in general, seem to be more comfortable with who they are. Its that whole 'Take me as I am' attitude, which is attractive in itself.

Personally, I would go for short hair. That's because long hair reminds me of when I was growing up and I had long hair. In my adoolescent years it was constantly greasy and ick! But that's just me.

some of my friends have long hair i used to have it also . never cared mutch i do rember some ppl giving me hassel mostly girls they were just annoyed i had better hair then they did

one of my house mates during collage did i just slagged him every now and again about forgetting hes a guy some night when i come home drunk .. never cared at all

long hair is class i wana grow mine again .. will be good

its funny as hell though,
when we go to a house party after the night club one one of my friends ALWAYS gets asked for Blue Rizzlas and then the look on the persons face when he says he doesnt smoke it anymore is just priceless!

Worst thing I used to hate when I had the long hair was the builders wolf whistling at you,the smelly rocker jibes etc..The theory with the builders is that the long hair combined with the "stretchies---anyone remember them"seemed to get these builder type people going like a dog in heat.Mind you when you did turn around to comment back at them the look of embarassment on their faces was something else.

Alas my hair is now"respectable---hate that word--was I not respectable with the long hair?????"but I am trying to let it grow back this year IF I can get over that inbetween stage where you just look like a muppet.Which is where Im currently at now.....Im thinking should I get it snipped this w/e or perservere(sp?)

Maybe its cos everyone hates you. You should really look into the possibility that youre blaming on your hair that which could more accurately be attributed to your personality.

I've had my fair load of sh*t about having long hair - considering it's half-way down my back (and was even longer about 2 weeks ago).

My standard was response was either to flip the finger with an apathetic "f*ck off" look or ignore the offender.

Funnily enough, most of the crap came from my Dad and brother iwth their own idea of what I should look like and they kept going on about how nobody would employ me .....

then I got employed by a medical software company shortly after graduating with my Degree

Then they shut up ......

I'm kind of ambiguous on long hair.

Bad things

1-It gets in your mouth when its windy and you make strange gagging noises.
2- It goes curly in the rain.
3- It goes fuzzy in humidity.
4- You have to cut it, every so often which costs a fortune if your a girl.
5- It gets in your eyes.
6- It chokes you, turns on you, and tries to kill you when you sleep.
7- It sticks to your neck when its really warm.

Good things

1- You can tie it up.
2- Sometimes you look like that girl off the add (or you think you do)
3- It makes females, who dont really look female, look more female.
4- I cant think of anymore.

Hmmm.. more minus than plus, think a haircut is in order.

No, I don't think so, because the main offender who is a girl keeps flirting with me non stop. She keeps saying, ah cut it. It makes you look much nicer etc. Most of the other offenders I have never spoken to or met before.

Personally, I've always been too much the lazy pussy to grow my hair. But my long locked companions are always getting hassled for it. To "Get a hair cut" they reply "No, I'm growing my hair long" or "I did but I've a hair growth speed condition".

Im currently growing my hair, only been growing it 8months or so, so it isnt long 'yet', but Im already getting endless slagging never the less, and if anyone asks 'are you growing it' my usual responce is simple 'no, im shrinking it', the look on their face is priceless

I think most guys who grow their hair suit it tho, there was a friend of mine who had pretty long hair, but then one day when he was stoned (as ya do) with a few mates they dared him to get it all cut, he did, and now he looks 10years younger and is immediately going to grow it back again ASAP, he HATES his new hair, it reminds him of when he just went with the crowd and hung around with 'cool' people, so he has said he will never get it cut short again...... ever. So I dont plan on cutting my hair either, as I think Ill probably be the same and grow it back anyways, so save yourself the bother of looking like a twat for 3months and just dont get it cut. (you always seem to look like a twat for 3-6 months when growing you hair, thats what usually puts folk off doing it, im in the horrid phase at the mo)
