How on earth can Diaby be contracted that long? And Park too?! It's just bad bad business, unbelieveable for a team that prides itself on its financials that that should happen. It must be frustrating for the likes of Sagna seeing crocks/players just not good enough getting the same money as him on long term deals, when he is only offered something short term.

Is Park still at the club?

    Parks gone out on loan
Also I heard when Park signed that it was a 2 year deal as he had to do his conscription with the army

Its all paper talk, I think Sagna and walcott will sign and therell be a few new faces in jan

Contracts expiring next summer; Arshavin, Squillaci, Walcott, Fabianski.

Expiring in 2014; Szczesny, Mannone, Gibbs, Sagna, Rosicky, Chamakh, Bendtner, Denilson.

(Diaby and ParkJuYoung have contracts until 2015...)

Walcott, Szczesny, Gibbs, Sagna, Rosicky and Diaby are the only people worth keeping from that list. Less than half. Most of the others are literally dead weight for us.

I wouldn't be in any rush to renew Diaby's contract. He is too brittle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

I'd keep Diaby around on a pay-as-you-play deal.

And with Wenger strongly aware of the fact that he's a squad player who will play maybe ten games a season, not someone we should go into the season pinning all our hopes on.

Sczesny, Walcott and Sagna are the only ones needing contracts on that list. Diaby pay as you play maybe, Gibbs if hes completes a full season without injury. Rosicky will be too old by the time his contract runs out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭TheGunns

Diaby cant be offered anything new unless he stays fit when he comes back. He's too injury prone. If he does stay fit he will be great as we saw at the start of the season.
Rosicky is the same but he doesnt have years on his side so its unlikely he will stay.
They have to start trying to sign on Walcott, hes a typical player who would want to go abroad and they can sign him for nothing come Jan and then move in the summer. Would be a real loss as he should be playing most games and should always start on either wing before Gervinho or Ramsey.

TBH I think its time to acknowledge that Diaby just isn't up to the physical rigours of the game anymore. Its farcical that he's on that long a contract.

Anyway can't blame him for wanting to leave

But no matter what I will support the crest on the front not the name on the back

No matter how bad things get I'm a gunner till I die

Me too. I have been a Gunner fan for almost 50 years now.
But I see it as my duty to point out what I see to be the poor running of the club.
Our best players are leaving every year because they see no ambition from Management and Board. They have said that. Our manager coming out and saying "we played well but did not get the result but we are united" is pure drivel. The fans are not blind either.

Anyone else think there's a really good chance we could nab Llorente in Jan what with his contract running out in the summer?

If he's going for around a million or less.

And only if he agrees to stop kidding himself and retires from international football.

Sad but probably true. TBH he's there for the taking though, similar to Santi in the summer they could get a real bargain on him. Between 10 and 15 million should be enough though Wenger would never spend that on a player he can get for free in 6 months I suppose. Wouldn't be the end of the world if we nabbed him on a bosman, but if it comes to that there'll be more enticing clubs in for him too. If Wenger shows some initiative and just buys him in Jan he'd come to us I reckon.

He would probably only want a Top 4 team for CL reasons.

If we sign mbwia I don't mind us selling sanga

Arsenal are virtually the dictionary definition of a top 4 side so no worries there !

The likelihood is we won't be any more than 5/6 points from 4th by January, as bad as we've been, everyone else has managed to be crap too. So really can't see potential signings being all that worried about us qualifying for the CL. We're worried because we watch this team every week :pac:

A Spanish/French player will just see a team close to (or possibly in) the CL places who have qualified for it for the last 15 years..

I wouldn't really see the point in signing Llorente tbh.

We have a player in Giroud who is fantastic in the air and yet we very very rarely play to his strengths and cross the ball. Granted Llorente is probably a better 'all rounder' than Giroud but the main benefit from having him in the team is his aerial threat, which we wouldn't utilise.

I'd still mind, that means we'd have to buy even more defensive cover when Sagna is gone.

Any new players that come in in January need to be midfield/attacking though imo. Unless we're buying more than 2 that is.

Mibwa can cover RB and DM

    I wouldn't offer him a 4yr contract hope the club don't either

Ah yea I know he's pretty versatile, but buying one player to cover roughly 5 positions just leaves us even more stretched if/when he gets injured.

Sagna's only 29, 4 year contract would be fine imo. He'd still be first choice for the next 2 years at least and then would be perfect back-up if Jenkinson steps up into the role from there on out too.

Is the only source for the sagna stuff the daily mail?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Offering Sagna a one year deal is a disgrace tbh.

The guy's a pro and the best RB in the league. A one year deal must appear as an absolute smack in the face to him tbh. Plenty of players keep going well into their 30's and if we were willing to offer Rosicky, Arteta and Squillaci contracts that will take them into their early thirties then there is absolutely zero reason we shouldn't do the same for Sagna.

Jenkinson is not ready. Give him another two years of playing understudy to Bac, and then he might be ready.

Yeah I get what your saying but I can see why the club is not in a hurry to offer him a 4yr deal

2 leg breaks in a year, only average this season of we're been honest
And Jenks will more than likely take over in the next 12-18 months if he keeps improving

Just cause we lost be names before don't mean we have to bow to very players demands now

That's why I think if we offer him and theo decent contracts but they don't accept fair enough we sell

    Offered 3 he wants 4

Bring back David Dein I say! His main falling out was with Fisman anyway who's passed on. PHW might not be back anymore so what's the problem. Clearly Arsne could do with the help.

If it wasnt for his son, I'd agree. Darren has been responsible for Adebayor, Clichy, van Persie, Song and Fabregas leaving. Bar Fabregas, they all left for money reasons.

If David comes back, Darren will likely follow.

Sensible thing would be to keep Sagna and sign Mbiwa but then this is Arsenal so...

Serious investment needed in January but it'll be piecemeal as usual. Something like Ba/Huntelaar, Holtby and Mbiwa is the best we can hope for really. Ideally we'd be going after guys like Isco, Jovetic, El Sharaawy, but obviously the club have no appetite for that sort of thing so...

We did well out of them though. Really RVP and Fab were the only two we didn't want gone and they would have gone anyway.

We need a good chairman and board again.

News tonight that the board vetoed wenger and sold nasri when he wanted to keep him

Makes sense when you remember his you can't call yourself a big club if you see cesc and nasri, comment

I wish wenger would just come out and tell us what's going on and stop been so loyal
