Dell Inspiron 6000 Ram problem

    I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with original 1gb RAM- 2 x 512mb DDR2 sticks.

    I went onto Crucial website and they recommended 2 x 1GB DDR2 RAM which I bought and am now trying to get working.

    The problem is that with the new RAM installed, the operating system hangs when starting up. It won't go past the windows logo screen.
    I went into the BIOS and it sees the 2GB RAM.
    It will also start in safe mode and the system reports 2gb RAM installed. But the computer won't startup normal.

    When I put the original RAM back in the computer starts up fine:confused:
    I have re-seated the new ram several times but the system sees it so what am I missing?

    The new RAM could be faulty. You can run scans of the RAM to check this.

    have you tried putting them in individually or with the other memory to see if one of them is faulty?

    Memtest86+ will confirm if the RAM is faulty. Sounds like faulty RAM more than likely. It could also be the bios in the machine is picky and the RAM your replacing is of a higher speed than the previous. Yes the machine should automatically adjust it down but some bios are picky, restoring the original RAM and doing a bios upgrade may be no harm either, if available.

    Thanks for the replies people.
    I ran several tests on the ram, including Memtest86+ and all passed.

    So following that I think the ram is fine, it points more to what yoyo said, perhaps the BIOS is picky. I've been on the Dell website and there is no update available.

    It just seems strange to me that the BIOS recognizes 2048mb RAM, but the system won't boot up with it.

    Just in case anyone else has a similar problem, I got it sorted.

    I disabled devices one at a time in safe mode and when I disabled the network card drivers the computer booted up!
    I don't use the ethernet anyway, I use WIFI which works fine so all is good.
