At this time of the year you would always hear people going on about the christmas bonus they were getting of work. I'm not hearing as many people go on about it; however, I'm still hearing some friends and family members talking about getting one.

So what's the story, who is getting a bonus this year, and who is happy just to have work to go back to in the new year?

I'm spending my Christmas in Thailand on my honeymoon so that's kind of a bonus I guess.

And yes, as per above I am going on about it rather a lot.

Yup. Company's still in the black and we've actually grown revenue due to reducing our prices and working harder.

You should pop over to Australia, it's a beautiful country.

Had a bonus last year after a few months work of about a weeks wage. Company has been expanding and I think I've been doing well enough, so hopefully the same again or more this year. Have decided that whatever I get I'm spending on a DSLR.

Bonus could be anywhere from 0 to 15%

If I had to guess, it'll be 0.

Never had a Christmas bonus in my 17 years of working.

Same myself I never worked anywhere that gave it's staff a bonus at Christmas.

I used 'holiday' time to sit in line at the GNIB and shell out 300 for a plastic card. Sucks to be me.

I've a month off college so that's plenty saved by not getting the bus.

I got called for an interview. The bonus would be the salary if I get the job.

To be honest, I'd much rather have a slightly higher wage and no bonus than a lower wage and a big bonus.

When I get paid X and the company pays me X - I'm never upset or disappointed.

When I get paid Y and *maybe* a bonus - I always end up disappointed. And then you hear all these stories about companies deciding nobody gets a bonus this year, for whatever reason. It just seems like an easy carrot to dangle to get quality employees in the door that can be dropped at the first hint of trouble. Even when companies are profitable, I've seen them cancel bonuses (and, of course, it's always 'non-exec' level bonuses).

First year in my current job got about a weeks wages bonus. Second year got nothing. Third year got an extra days holiday and last year got about an extra day and a half wage bonus. Been hinted that due to the work I've been doing lately and time with the company that I'll be getting a pretty good bonus this year (doubt it'd be up to a weeks wages again but be glad to get anything at all).

Congrats! 50% is a huge increase, you should be proud.

A week/months wages depending on which you're on, you get the choice to take it in May or for Xmas. Most take it in May then wish they had waited. You get taxed approx half of it but 1000 extra a week or two before Xmas? Yes please!

No Christmas bonuses ever given out in my current line of work. But this is my last month there and I'll be getting paid for untaken annual leave... so I keep referring to that as my Christmas bonus :P

No, because I'm not there long enough- but they do it, and not only are bonuses rare in retail- it's cash! Amazing.

Only the admin staff where I work get a bonus(I am admin) I got it last year but now they have decided to change it to March, so this year I will be getting my Xmas bonus in March... Better late than never I suppose.

I once walked out of a job 10 minutes before the bonuses were due to be handed out.

It was a terrible job, I'd never be a wage clerk again.
