PS3 won't start

I've a 60GB PS3 that I bought in 2007. This evening, while watching a DVD, it beeped and shut down with a red light flashing. I tried to start it up again but it went from green to amber to flashing red straight away. I switched it off completely and tried again but no joy.

I don't know if its related but I only updated the software on it last night from the net, followed by watching a three hour movie over netflix. While watching this movie, I noticed the green light (for the hard drive???) continually flashing. Did I wear something out??

Any ideas as I've got a DVD stuck in it now?

Hold down the power button on the front for about 30 seconds (If my memory serves me correct) or hold it longer

No joy on that. Keeps going from green to amber to red and the red light flashes.

From a web search, it looks like the CPU and or GPU has cooling problems which would entail stripping the PS3 down to its components and reapplying fresh thermal cooling paste. Looks like a tough job

No luck with that either. It keeps switching off after a second or two.

Anyone know where I could get it repaired?

Exact same thing happened to my Dads last week , same symptoms , same problem , left it into a ps3 repair place just beside Campions pub on the Malahide road , cost 80 euro ,fixed with 24 hours ,this is the place

Thanks for that. I gave them a call and they said they could fix it overnight so hopefully I'll have my PS3 back soon.

Thinking about this, I got five years use out of this machine with lots of gaming, blu ray playback and Netflix watching, so I guess she doesn't owe me anything at this point. Be nice to get some more use out of her though as she is an original 60GB machine and thus has backwards compatibility with PS2 games, of which I still own about a dozen.
