Supply levels of this phone is turning into a joke now! My order from Cyberport had an estimated shipping date of today(29th), after being ordered over 2 weeks ago and being changed twice. The estimated time has now changed to the 13th of December, so no doubt that'll change again and I won't have it this side of Christmas....not happy to say the least!

I noticed that alright, they did have an estimate of 06/12 but that's been put back a week, I suppose you could cancel and try clove instead?

I like WP8 but despite its many good points, and innovative, zippy look and feel, MS and Nokia are collectively making a huge mess of grabbing mindshare and market.

I've no major commitment to any platform but I'm watching the recent developments with fascination. I think the fact that the Lumia 920s are sold out nearly everywhere and people are willing to pay €650+ to maybe get the phone in 2/3 weeks time you must be doing something right? Also there was a story recently that Nokia shares are climbing in value. Finally this is more hearsay than fact but from reading around forums it seems to me the majority of people switching to WP8 are coming from iPhone?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Microsoft are going to overtake Apple or Google in smartphone market share in the next 3 years but I also don't think they are "making a huge mess of grabbing mindshare and market."

I thought the Windows Surface RT tablets might sell well and help drive App Store growth which would have a knock on benefit for WP8, but by all accounts they are awful and selling very poorly.

I doesn't matter if only one Surface RT was sold, its the number of Windows 8 sales that will drive the app store growth and so far they've sold 40 million copies of Windows 8 in a few weeks. I'd be pretty confident to say Windows 8 app store growth rate will be the fast growing of any app store.

WP8 has only been out a few weeks and its been selling extremely well by all acounts, 4 times more than this time last year. You'll have to wait and see how it goes.

As for the windows phone market place its reached 100,000 apps a lot faster than android, I don't know how anyone come think thats bad?

The 920 does seem to be doing great, they've sold a ton of them, and it seems to sell out within a day or two if not a few hours anywhere it goes on sale.

But, without having seen the figures for both, I'd be willing to bet that it's still only a fraction of iPhone 5 sales.

They have a chance to turn the success of the 920 into a much bigger one. If they ramped up production and dropped the prices they could make much better in-roads into Apple and Androids lead and grab some real market share.

They dropped the price 800 and added features to WP8 that people asked for. Looks promising they'll listen and keep pushing the 920 and 820 out to shops.

I think people are bored with IOS and Android, looking for something new. People love a good camera too!

Yeah that 6/12 estimate was for the White one! At this stage I don't know if it'd be worth chancing going with Clove and then getting stuck on a waiting list there!

Very easy for it to look like it's doing good when it's showing up as sold out, but there has been no concrete numbers on how many were available in the first place! It really is looking like Nokia did not have enough devices ready for launch, or else they are having huge distribution issues!

True, youll have to trust your gut on this one...although it might be worthwhile dropping Clove a line - I've found them very helpful to deal with so far.

Yeah I might just do that, have seen elsewhere people who got word from Cyberport that today was still the shipping date, so I'll wait until I get confirmation!

I asked them about the 920 in Ireland in early November and they said it would arrive before Christmas over here. Unfortunately, as I am now blocked from their facebook, all my comments and posts on their page have been deleted

I just had a hands-on with the Nokia 920, the HTC 8x and the Samsung Ativ.
    • HTC feels the most svelte in the hand. It's also the smallest, possibly a tiny bit feminine compared to the other two. The screen was also inferior to the others when placed side-by-side.
    • The Samsung is 10 times better looking in the flesh than in the photos. Screen is really nice with black blacks. Still a Samsung, meaning it feels plastic and cheap, but probably not something you'd notice if you didn't have the others to compare to.
    • The Lumia 920 feels like a big, solid block compared to the other two. Physically slightly bigger than the HTC and about the same as the Samsung, although it is about 50% thicker. It was a prototype unit so had a lot of stickers and holes and the screen looked very dim when viewed sideways on (much more so than my Lumia 800 and the other two WP8 handsets). Doesn't feel any heavier than the 800, as compared by three people.
It was nice to see the three side-by-side, but I'm sticking with my decision to go with the Nokia, although I did change from white to black for a bit of a change.

How did you get a hands-on? Do you work in Microsoft? Was this in Dublin?

    just amazin stuff
That picture looks great, reminds me of gopro stuff but it seems to handle low light levels better than a go pro. It would be really cool if I could somehow use my go pro mounts with it.

So clove.co.uk seem pretty sure that they're getting some stock on Wednesday 5th December, they're selling the preorders on that stock right now. In fairness to them they only ever sell preorders on stock they know they will definitely have. Only black and white are available now, red has sold out.

According to a number of different retailers in the Netherlands, France and Germany, the Lumia 920 is selling at iPhone 5 levels and seems only to be hindered by lack of stock. By the time it's officially released in Ireland in Jan / Feb then I'd say stock levels will be grand.

Thinking of ordering the white one from clove. Has anyone got it or seen it in real life? I've never been a big fan of white iPhones but something about the white Lumia 920 seems right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭John2009

Emailed Clove this morning after seeing that the Red and Black 920 were no longer available for pre-order to ask did I secure the Red 920 I ordered and sure enough I've secured a Red one :)

Hopefully they arrive on the 5th and shipped the same day, hope to have it next Friday

AT&T only seem to have the black and white on display near me (NY). I prefer the black myself, but the white is pretty nice all the same, good feel and colour from it, really stands out.

I saw a white, black and red in an At&T store a few weeks back when I was on holiday in US. White and red did nothing for me at all, felt a bit plasticy. Black was matt and looked much better. I haven't seen the yellow so it'll be a black or yellow for me.

I got my free wireless charger today (from At&T).

Its really cool. Plug it in and leave it plugged and then you just lay the phone on it and it'll charge. I read that there was a 25% time penalty on a full charge but I didnt notice and sloth.

A small convenience that you could get really used to.

Great deal if you are in the UK, can get it unlocked then for another £54. Still cheaper than clove's £520
