    Sent up the River

Really scummy thing to do.... just yank a mans rabbit off him then throw it in the river. Nice to see a fair bit of justice done.

Seriously. Why the **** would anyone do that?

I remember hearing about this at the time.

Wish someone had have thrown that cúnt in the river after the rabbit.

What a heartless thing to do to a man who is already suffering enough as it is.

Hopefully when his 4 months are up he'll go on the lash and fall into the river.

    Did the rabbit die ?
    Yes, unfortunately he did :(
Outside the court, Mr Byrne, who has been living on the streets for 23 years, said he was in shock when he saw his pet swimming around in circles, looking up at him.

"I wasn't going to leave him there," he said. "I had to get him, I had to jump in to get him.

"Barney died in my arms. I got him under the bridge and gave him the kiss of life."

Within days he was given a Compassionate Citizen Award for going above and beyond the call of duty to help an animal in need.

Edit: I was just listening to the RTE 1 Radio news a few minutes ago and they interviewed Mr. Byrne who confirmed that Barney, his rabbit is alive and well :) It looks like the Indo got it wrong in their news report.

A 4 month sentence for a youth seems fair, but the fella who done it is 20, hardly a youth so should of got more time.

i think the perp should be glazed with honey and left with a hundred ferocious rabbits who have been starved for 48 hrs. That'll learn him to mess with rabbi.

Yes, but lets not fail to be happy with a half decent sentence, based on the fact other sentences are far too short.

    .......and he was popular, too

Anyways, that little fùcker is the scum of the earth to do that to an animal. I have a rabbit myself and I'd utterly lose the rag if something happened to it.

Of course, it's not like living on the street without adequate food or shelter is animal cruelty or anything. Both of them should be in jail.

Its a rabbit, you think rabbits naturally live inside?

Disagree, the rabbit looks more healthy and happy than it's owner. The second guy is in jail for attempting to kill the rabbit and take away what little happiness that homeless man has. Sad man in my eyes, hope he is barred from holding any animal in the future to.

I'm just sitting here watching the RTE 1 o'clock news and the fella was being interviewed, was asked how the rabbit is and he said 'alive and kicking'!!

For once the courts get it right :)

I can't understand the mentality of those who treat the less fortunate in our society as objects of ridicule.

Those animals are/were all that poor man has in the world and for that young thug to do what he did is just horrendous.

I suppose it's indicitive of the type of society we live in though...we are all so obessessed with our own problems and so stuck with this -oh-woe-is-us attitude we ignore or laugh at those less fortunate or become cynical about them.

I'm guessing the rabbit "died" but he brought it back with the kiss of life when he retrieved it, according to him.

Youth who threw rabbit in river

The Indo stated he was a 20 year old.

The same article stated "Barney died in my arms. I got him under the bridge and gave him the kiss of life."

    And we have this:

Can the indo rag ever get anything right.
