The worlds largest renounced pedophile ring has now decided to take drastic new measures to prevent any further scandals by forcing their employees to carry RFID embedded identification. The microchip embedded device is capable of being used as a tracking device.

A source inside the Vatican acknowledged that they have been thinking about this for years, but declined to give any details of the discussions.

Much tighter controls have already been introduced for anyone seeking access or photocopies of the Holy See's archives, dossiers and documents.
The Papal Apartments, which include the living quarters of Pope Benedict XVI and the offices of his personal staff inside the Apostolic Palace, are totally off limits to anyone without strict authorisation.

Slovenian priest, Mitja Leskovar, an anti-espionage expert nicknamed 'Monsignor 007', is in charge of implementing the new security procedures with the identity cards expected to be introduced from January 1.

Awesome! There could be an app!!

Fair play to them though, they'll have their work cut out for them getting all the priests to comply.

    Fair play to them?!

If anything this measure, if true, is indicative of just how morally low the organisation has fallen.

Failed to persecute the pedo's, but now persecuting the innocent priests instead. Not very fair.

What's your opinion on this? I know you're no fan of either the Catholic Church or the use of RFID tech, so you must be a bit torn on this story :p

The worlds largest renounced pedophile ring

Stopped reading after that. Such a stupid and needless comment.

Before anyone says anything, I understand the abuses that have occurred within the church and I am agnostic. Just think such a senseless comment tars priests and bishops that do good.

I thought the BBC was the worlds largest renounced paedophile ring????

O wait they provide a service which gives us entertainment without us having to give anything back.... lets all quickly forget and forgive!!

    .
    Its true.

The way the church handled the situation in this country alone is appalling.

It rubs salt in the wounds for the fact that it cannot be transparent amongst its clergy on issues and has to resort to e_tagging.

But it will help innocence or guilt. The honest priests have nothing to fear, other than someone knowing where they are at any given time.

The whole thing does set the scene for everyone to get them. Ya know yourself!

Not to mention the wording which implies that this is in some way linked to the child abuse scandals or that the RFID cards are to be carried by all priests, despite the two links in the same post telling a completely different story.

Completely dishonest fail of an OP imo.

I assume you actually read the links you yourself supplied?

Or are you just hoping that no-one else will, so that you can use this as an excuse to rehash yet again something a totally unrelated topic, and try to give the impression that all priests are to be electronically monitored as if they were all criminals?

    Paedophile Ring:
a group of people who take part in illegal sexual activity involving children (Definition of paedophile ring noun from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)

In fact it was a fair comment, the Catholic Church could arguably (perhaps before these "reforms") have been viewed as a paedophile ring. Perhaps the establishment of a paedophile ring was not the main purpose of the organisation, but not only did they do it, there was a systematic cover up for decades.

Regardless of the good majority, the priests and bishops of the Catholic Church tar themselves by association.

A Christian church should be completely transparent among its clergy, there should be no need to hide secrets or try to cover up matters. When a "Church" has to go to the extreme of electronic tagging clergy it just shows that something is seriously not right and people need to to start questioning its authority.

So any document that is on the Pope's desk should be subject to public scrutiny?

Do you think that is the case with any other Christian or non-Christian church?

Do you think it is the case with any organisation in the world?

Do you think none of them should be allowed beef up security after an incident where private documents were stolen?

    Absolutely.

If it was any other organisation in the world it would have been scrutinized by a higher authority decades ago. Giving its untouchable nature it has been able to get away with it indefinitely.

Silencing whistle blowers is not exactly the best way of going about it.
Do you think that is the case with any other Christian or non-Christian church?
A true Christian church should have the Bible as the final authority and should not have anything to hide. Matters should be made transparent among clergy and church members such as finances, misconduct of clergy members etc.

This is one reason why I would attend a smaller independent church rather than a large institute like the Catholic Church.

You cannot compare secular organisation to Church establishments.

A christian Church should show an element of trust among its congregation. and E_tagging its clergy is doing the complete opposite.

If it was any other organisation in the world it would have been scrutinized by a higher authority decades ago.
And again you have twisted and answered a different question from the one asked. There is a world of difference between, on the one hand, "scrutiny by a higher authority" and theft of private documentation and their release to the media.

Are you genuinely trying to tell me that ANY organisation in the world, from Microsoft to your local Farmers Union, would not attempt to beef up security after such an event?
A true Christian church should have the Bible as the final authority ...
I couldn't agree with you more, and those responsible at Vatican level and in the local hierarchy for cover-ups over the years have miserably failed to do so.
Matters should be made transparent among clergy and church members such as finances, misconduct of clergy members etc.
Certain things should be much more transparent, agreed. Doesn't mean every document should be available to public scrutiny, that won't work for any organisation, church or secular.
This is one reason why I would attend a smaller independent church rather than a large institute like the Catholic Church.
I hate to tell you this, RTDH, but not all smaller churches have had any better history in this regard than the the RCs, and some (mostly since disbanded) were even worse.
A christian Church should show an element of trust among its congregation. and E_tagging its clergy is doing the complete opposite.
They're security cards. They're the norm these days for most organisations. They're more about keeping out people who shouldn't be there than any distrust of those who should. I know you think they're the work of the devil, but most people don't share your view. :)

Theft is too strong a word, Its more a case of whistle blowing.

There is a big difference between a commercial entity and a Christian establishment such as a Church. As I said before a Church should show an element of trust from the top down. For starters it shouldn't have such "secretive" information to begin with. By having this means that it is up to no good and wants to hide it.

I couldn't agree with you more, and those responsible at Vatican level and in the local hierarchy for cover-ups over the years have miserably failed to do so.

They are an instrument of control if they get into the wrong hands and more than likely they will coming from a place like that..

I would also consider them as a Precursory RFID Program To The "Mark Of The Beast" and more so coming from a large religious institute like the Catholic Church.

It would not surprise me if similar RFID programme commenced for church membership. IE an electronic version of a Baptismal certificate to be a member of the Catholic Church to receive benefits such as Weddings and funerals etc.
