Yeah. Like the look of it. Would love to know when/if Vodafone Ireland are going to make this available.

Wouldn't be surprised if that phone never makes it over here, its a very nice phone for a mid range device.

yeah its fairly expensive for what it is to be honest.. starting price of 300gbp is madness considering imo..
still nice to see the first 2ghz phone :)

    expensive? it seems cheap imo

im just thinking quite a few htc phones, probably cheaper, are quite a bargain.
what does it equate to? 375 euro probably?
    galaxy s3 is +100 euro

for a 4.3" phone though i reckon its worth a look for sure... lots of competition in that screen size though :)
    always good

    Aw, pish!

Who cares if you got the iPhone 5, the S3 or the new RAZR?
All these slabs look the same. So boring.

Someone should take a cue from the RAZR2, make a new generation flip with a new Symbian OS (with backward-compatibility) and battery life to rival the old Blackberry.
Make 2 versions - one with a touchscreen and one with buttons.

Personally, I still haven't been able to find anything to upgrade to from my Nokia E72. It's great in so many ways!

Will the intel chip in this affect peoples (cyanogenmod's etc) ability to release custom rom's for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

So has anyone picked up one of these yet? I need a new phone and I'm considering this since the nexus 4 can't be got.

I know its not top end like the nexus but should be a good upgrade from the HTC desire I'm using at the moment.

Anyone know how many apps don't work because of the Intel chip?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 701 ✭✭✭kierank01

I got it, battery is fantastic, I've only had one problem with apps, and that is with flash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

So no flash at all? That would put me off a bit tbh.

Looking on expansys the S3 is only €50 more than this. Can't decide what to get, might still get the HTC 8x. Spoiled for choice this Christmas.

There is a youtube app, and vlc will play flv's if you have them.
I think there are ways to get it working, but haven't looked into it yet.
Adobe have stopped development of flash for android anyway, so it is on the way out, however long it will take is another question.

I guess most sites will have HTML 5 by now.
How do you find the phone in general? Nice and fast?

My major problem with the desire is lack of internal storage, even with A2SD its near full all the time.

 Ehhh just download the flash .apk and sideload it and you will have flash support in a matter of seconds simples ;)

not quite, as the apk is compiled for an arm proc, and won't run on an intel

didnt the orange san diego run an intel chip and shipped with flash before it support was halted  if so it will be a tougher find but not impossible.

nice and fast? yes, no problems at all.

internal storage is fine, nearly 5 gig free space...

I got a 32gig sd card, but it is a little tricky to find it...

the internal memory is in /sdcard, and the sd card is in /external1.
I don't know if that is an ICS thing or just this phone...

The music player picks it up automatically, so you can dump a load of music, and play away.

    not sure to be honest.

Flash can be seen in the play store, but it won't download because it says it is not compatible.

Just double checked and yes the Intel based San Diego came with flash support so all you need to do is find the .apk and install, i would be off to xda id say you could fine the apk quite easy.

My Nexus also shows up and incompatible with flash on the play store, quick sideload and i was sorted

It's a nice phone, but I haven't found the battery quite as good as the fluff might suggest.

I think it was the razr maxx that was touted as having huge battery life. A full day on a charge is plenty for me.

I think I'll be getting this phone, I'm gonna have a play with an S3 over the weekend but I reckon it'll be too big. €350 is a nice price for this thing.

Did any of ye take the plunge and go for the razr i in the finish? Strongly considering it - about €400 sim free. I keep thinking the samsung S III is just too big - if there is a big difference though I would put up with the extra size.

I got a Nexus 4 in England instead. I got used to the size after about 5 minutes, the only problem is other phones seem tiny now. The desire looks pretty crappy beside this thing.

I got it last week, and my girlfriend got the s3. Size wise as you say the s3 is massive- certainly a nice phone to use, but quite big, and s bit plasticky...

The RAZR I is a lovely phone- nicely weighted and it feels solid. The carbon fibre back has a nice tactile feel to it. In terms of using it, battery is fine, screen is bright (although funnily not as sharp as my old HTC desire s). The is loaded is 4.0 (apparently 4.1 due q1 2013). Motorola have kept it mostly stock jelly bean, with a nice swipe left menu to switch on and off all the radios, and a nice simple home screen. Being an Intel processor j was afraid that there would be app incompatibles bit so far I haven't been given any messaged to say I can't loaf apps from play store. And it flies performance wise.

My two criticisms are minor : I think the HD video label on the back is tacky, and so far I can't see how to move apps to sd card, which bugs me With google play music...

Well worth it overall especially considering the price- it cost me 120 on a 12month 35 per month contract with meteor

you said 4.1 is due in Q1 yet said jellybean. 4.0 is ics... up until 4.0.4 then its 4.1.0 which is jellybean. ^^
i guess you mean its on 4.1 and will run 4.2
and yeah its pure android. not as "nice" looking out of the box. but an awesome system and smoother than samsungs one imo.
i came from htc desire to galaxy s3 and i love it. its a big stepup. and at this stage im looking at the note 2 thinking hmm maybe id be the same about that.and the screen is disgustingly nice on that.
i will say a few things though. it is kinda harder text with 1 hand. ppl complain abuot that, but tbh i generally txtd with 2 hands anywaysy as u do with a querty phone. all blackberries etc which had slideout keyboards were made for 2 hands and theyre small screen so its no surprise or worry.
phone fit in pocket? its slim as hell - as is the razor i.
400 for the i is just plain madness compared to the nexus 4. same price. 4x the ram, 2x more processing power probably, dunno about space, thats a qualm about the nexus 4 alright,
there is also a samsung galaxy s3 mini now i saw in carphone warehouse. mite be worth checking out. was expensive though, same prices as these almost and i reckon its a tad smaller, maybe 3.7". id google it but im tired, and i was more interested in the galaxy camera if getting something magical

my mistake - my RAZR i is presently on ICS 4.0.4, and is apparently going to get JB 4.1 this quarter: https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c

Just to add to my original comments...the camera on the RAZR i isn't spectacular...not bad, but be aware it isn;t the greatest snapper in the world

Thanks guys - really appreciate the comments :) I think the nexus 4 would be too big also though (same size as galaxy siii) and the galaxy siii mini is very poor imo. Have a 3.8" screen galaxy ace atm and looking for something in between it and the siii - 4.3" would be perfect!

    Thanks again

Great phone, but just as an FYI.. I gave up using mine (a couple of days before xmas) as it won't connect to a Vodaphone Sure Signal unit which I need in order to connect at home.

I know this issue will be addressed by some of the technical companies involved, so i have felt it is worth keeping my device, but the issue is still in place..

    Almost correct
Took me ages to sort this.....
After sideloading the stock browser and many others still don't work despite flash being enabled
Eventually I used puffin and it finally works a treat!
