Ballymaloe and Tim Allen the sex offender.

I know its yonks ago since Tim Allen was convicted of child porn charges (http://www.independent.ie/opinion/analysis/shameful-truth-that-lay-behind-ballymaloes-wholesome-image-487933.html) but it really annoys me that the family's business has managed to airbrush the case out of its history. The fawning attitude of the Irish media towards this family is pretty appalling, considering the family started out denying anything at all when the porn was found on a Ballymaloe computer and then stood in total solidarity with Tim Allen when he was convicted. I know we'd all like to think we'd support our family but would you really support your dad/brother/inlaw if they were convicted of something like this? I can't get my head around how this family get such a free pass on something so disgusting.

Personally have never bought an Allen family product since. Wouldn't have them in the house.

Haven't bought any of Rachel's books & means I also stopped buying in o'briens sandwiches.

If a business uses them, they lose me as a customer.

Find it completely offensive that he "got away" with it.

I would not claim to know aty time but the bare basics on this case; but why should the family pay? Apart from that sex offenders are people, the have friends, family, work associates etc.

A difficult situation for any person to find themselves, suddenly a person the may have loved is being protrayed as an animal by some people or the media, how should they re-act? I really don't think any of use [or very few] can know what way we would react or respond

The family if they are not involved in the offense should not be made to suffer for the acts of one of its members, well in my opinion

How do you know what he told the family about the images & how they got there?
And did you stop to think that maybe all isn't as rosey as the public image they portray?

His children, or grandchildren, shouldn't have to suffer over his wrongdoing. It's a successful business & whether you like them or not they have continued to keep it a success despite what happened.

There was an interesting rumour doing the rounds about that case, which I'm not going to repeat here, - as both boards and I could be sued. Let's just say that it suggested that Tim Allen might not be the ogre we think he is.....

I don't buy their products either since then, and I used to love their relish. Wonder what's in it :pac:

Yep I remember that rumour too, thought it was just me. That there was more to this case than the public knew about .

I think that was just PR bull, planting the 'he was covering for someone' seed of doubt in people's minds, just letting the public think 'Ah, there's more to this than what came out in the trial'. The man was convicted of child sexual offences, end of.

I'm not comfortable holding family members responsible for what someone does. Tim messed up not the rest of them. I think Tim is a lowlife but not anyone else in the family.

An actual premeditated PR stunt? I'd presume that would be outside the remit of any PR machine - and would get them in a lot of trouble legally if found out.

Far more likely it was a rumour. And none of us can prove it wasn't without basis.

I do. Taking illegal drugs directly or indirectly supports a huge criminal network. I've no time for recreational drug users who give out about petty crime and a lack of tough custodial sentences while using a substance that's only available by criminal means.
