The main worry I have if Wenger does go is that it goes the way of other clubs and a merry go round of new managers every season gets started. One thing is for sure is that I don't want us to go the way of Chelsea in that sense. And I wouldn't trust the board not to make stupid decisions.

Wengers lost the plot. Yes people can blame the board but....

It was Wenger who bought Gervinho who is probably the worst player to wear an Arsenal jersey in years.

It's Wenger who is managing Podolski, a player who came to us with a great record and a huge work rate, but now meanders around the pitch like he doesn't give a fúck.

It's Wenger who refused to buy in a capable backup striker for the second season in a row.

It's Wenger who will run Wilshere into the ground again this year.

It's Wenger who made our 3rd best CB captain which means he has to play.

Last year you were an avid defender of wenger, wouldn't have a bad word said, opinion changed much?

Shocking result and performance. I really hope we improve very soon or it would be nearly impossible to get into the top-4 this season

I don't feel like I'm against Wenger, however:

    1. I feel we have 11 players that should be capable of mounting a challenge for the title and other trophies. They are actually good players.

    2. You can't blame the board for the 90 minutes of tripe we were served up this afternoon. Gazidis didn't play Gervinho and Usmanov couldn't have stopped Jenkinson losing that ball.

Which makes me conclude, Wenger is the problem.

Maybe there are too many managers at Arsenal..... maybe that is the problem?

It has been like this for years now. I remember writing a blog post in 08 outlining Wenger's tactical stubborness and complete lack of steel in his teams. The exact same post is still applicable today.

I know the stadium debt and sponsorship deals have left him restricted but the team is just pathetic at times (Milan 4-0 comes to mind and then losing 2-0 to Sunderland that weekend in the FA Cup if I remember correctly).

If Spurs hadn't completely imploded last season Arsenal probably would not have qualified for the champions league.

Some pundit said that if Arsenal were looking for a manager right now, they would take Wenger given his track record, but that doesn't mean he would be right man for the job. I hesitate to call for his resignation because we will never know just what he's dealing with at board level and the true extent of his financial restrictions but something definitely has to change.

I had plenty of bad words to say about him. His investment before the season started was poor and his decisions to hold of selling Fabregas & Nasri until the last minute when we couldn't get in decent replacements was idiotic. His decision not to buy in January was baffling as was his man management.

But I also believed he was still the best man for the job.

Whereas now I believe there is plenty of managers who can spend as little as Wenger and we will perform at the level we currently are. Which is 5th - 8th place and no European competition. And which is where we'll be come season end unless we bring in at least two quality players in January.

And it is such a shame because if we had only won by a goal, we would have been third on the table.

I don't think many would have been fooled if we had fluked a win.
The cracks are obvious and have been for a long time.
We have good enough players who are not being motivated and who have a game-plan which has not changed in years. The training is also lacking too as we are constantly making the same mistakes, poor crossing, poor passing choices and defending too high a line thus being open to the break.
The team selection is poor too. Many similar type midfielders. Resting Giroud today too? Why?

No? Some on here were happy with the start we made to the season. I got carried away at times but there were people saying that we looked good starting with a couple of 0-0s against 2 **** teams and creating next to nothing. It's taken a while for eyes to open to it.

It's ok to say Wenger out.

But who would we replace him with ?

The reason people were willing to give more leeway at the start of the season was because there were a good few new players settling in. You need to stop banging that drum.

I have been one of Wengers biggest critics over recent years, but yes I was still one of them who were "happy" with the start of the season.

It wasnt that we were happy we were trying to be positive ;)we had new players bedding in, new assistant manager etc no harm in trying to be psoitive at times and believing the team will come good. Plus I honestly think weve gotten worse as the season has gone on, case in point Podolski the first few games I think a lot of fans fell in love with him, he took on players, he tracked back, he tackled hard as the season has gone on its like the Wenger/Arsenal effect has kicked in and he no longer shows the same effort, fight hes been famed for throughout his career.

There are plenty of options out there, it's just about finding the right man, who ever it is if he is a yes man then the board will continue to go unchallenged. We all have to be realistic Wenger is not leaving nor will he be sacked anytime soon

On the plus front, 'Arry, Rafa and fat Sam all have jobs so shouldn't be darkening our door anytime soon :D

Could we get Pep before Chelsea get their grubby paws on him?

I honestly think January will decide wengers fate if he buys right and we then it around I think he will stay on. If he buys average and we still slump I think he will step aside next summer

There's something wrong when players like Cazorla can pretty much hit the ground running when he joins a new team but within a couple of months looks to be ridiculously limited.

How about we actually try to have proper discussion on who would be the best replacement for once. It seems most of these discussion always just being "Wenger Out" followed by others questioning that there are adequate replacements, but the discussion never really goes much further than that.

Personally, the managers that I would be most in favour of would be Klopp and Moyes. And also perhaps Pellegrini. Those three are examples of managers who have been quite successful with relatively limited resources and also play some good football. Hopefully we look towards the like of these guys when the time comes.

Do people honestly think Wenger is going to be replaced? It won't happen and he deserves a chance to be with the club now that the club has cash available.

    Klopp for me
But I still hope wenger can turn it around but it's looking very bad almost like the players are not playing for him

Well fuck it anyway!!! The timing of this slump is just so bad it's unbeleivable! Wenger finally comes out and says that he's been hindered financially since the move to the stadium, like we all suspected, and that we should be able to better compete financially from now on. The FFP rules are just around the corner.

I honestly think Wenger deserves a chance to spend some money again and try to build another championship winning team, but if things don't change for the better very soon, he could be out the door by January before he gets a chance! It would make me sick to my stomach to see a new manager come in and get to spend as he pleased when Wenger has had to make do for so long! Motivation in this team is clearly a worry, but individual purchases? £10m doesn't go very far these days.

    Scary times :(

What was the mood and opinions among the fans like?
For me watching on a stream from the 25 minute I thought we were never going to score. Very predictable and easy to defend against. We didn't have our first shot on goal until 27 minutes and we playing at home. Lots of possession but going nowhere for the rest of it. The players often looked confused and lost.

Sad to say it but Arsenal would be a big step down for him. We dont expect the likes of Goetze or Lewandowski to join us so why would the manager's head be turned. I'm im favour of Moyes, a smart and realistic pick.

You always get the feeling with Wenger that he wont spend the money, even if he had it. We have often been seen to be in for a good player but as soon as another team shows interest we back out, afraid to take a chance

I honestly think we could get Guardiola, with the wages Wengers on pay wise we be right in the ball park.

He bemad to go to Chelsea with the way they go through managers, he wants a challenge, a club that will let him build, I also dont think he would be the boards yes man.

Wenger has been saying for years that money has been available to him every transfer window. He chooses not to spend it. Selling top players for huge sums of money and replacing them at a fraction of the price. I believe the board has made money available to him, he has just chosen to try and find bargains at lower transfer fees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,629 ✭✭✭wonga77

Anyone who goes to Chelsea is in it for the money. 3 years pay for a few months work must be mighty tempting. I would love Pep but not in a million years can I see it happening

Has he really or has it been the board? Either way, I don't believ it for a second and never have.

No me either. There has been feck all money the last few years.

No matter how bad it's going Wenger deserves the full season and if money is realistically available next year he should be allowed to stay on ans spend it.
