Point away to Everton is decent, but not good enough considering we drew with Villa and with the form we're in you wouldn't be surprised to see Swansea beat us either.

I'd be surprised to see Swansea win. Tbh I'd be surprised to see anything other than a draw.

Missing out on CL would be a disaster. It would be very difficult to attract quality players and those that we do have would start looking to leave. We would end up in a position where it would be very difficult to get back, Liverpool are an example of that now. The top players look at the 4 CL teams before considering the rest. IMO, missing out on CL is our equivalent of relegation.

I'm not sure if Galvasean was being ironic earlier when he said we need to get our act together because Swansea have bucked up their ideas. I hope so.

I'm the most optimistic man you'll meet when it comes to the Arsenal, but it's worth noting that after we "fell apart" at the start of last season, the worst start to a season in living memory, we still had 36 points after 19 games. It'll be interesting what our tally is after 19 this season

We'd have to win our next 5 in a row to match that exactly.
    Highly unlikely.
To the posters saying that we can afford to miss out on CL football as we have money in the bank, that's madness.
We should spend some of that in Jan and push to be in the Top 4. If you are out of it then it becomes very hard to get back in there.
I think we have a good enough squad but they need a kick up the backside badly.

If Walcott ends up at another EPL club that could just be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Think that was more of a "the board could be thinking..." kind of post.

We very much need an excellent run soon. It comes back to ambitions. When draws against teams like Sunderland and Stoke are acceptable it means that we don't expect to win at least 10 matches a season against actually good teams. There's probably 8 teams against whom some would say a point is a "good result". Assuming no slip-ups against the dross (away draws somehow acceptable) drawing with those 8 teams twice and winning the rest still nowhere near approaches a league winning total.

I think were a long way off from the top 2 at the moment. Man utd arent playing well by any means but are still grinding out results and winning games like away to villa they were 2-0 down and came back and won 3-2 and last night they scrapped out a 1-0 win against west ham.

There is not much wrong with the squad. Maybe missing 2/3 good players.
The main things that are wrong could easily be fixed with proper work on the training ground. Making sure our passing is accurate and our crosses cause the opposition a lot of trouble. That and the poor attitude of some players who think they are irreplaceable or guaranteed their place no matter what. The manager and trainers could fix most of that in a week with plenty of hard work.

I see Koscielny went off in the first half . Injured?

I think people were guessing 3 weeks out when it first happened. We'll have to wait for the press conference to see if that is optimistic or pessimistic.

he walked off - (supported) so it could be worse I guess

I personally can't see him staying. It's like when you watch enough gangster movies you know which guy is gonna get whacked. I've seen this type of situation arise enough times to know he's on his way out the door.

There is no chance he is staying. That would be done and dusted by now if he was.

I can't see him going to Liverpool tho. City I reckon. They have no pacy wingers really. Scott Sinclair maybe I suppose but sill reckon he is off to city.

Theo leaving would be a major blow and very disappointing, Chamberlain might fill his boots in a few years, but isnt a patch on him at the moment.

I'm looking forward to seeing Rosicky back in the squad, lets hope he can find last seasons form, he running ability with the ball is missing from the midfield at the moment.

I might just book a flight to London just so I can attend...

....and point and laugh at them.

On the contrary, I actually see him signing a new contract in the near future. I feel its currently a case of him haggling out the best deal he can get. I know a number of clubs are interested in him but I dont see any offering him to play in the middle like he wants- not even Liverpool would place Theo as a striker.

My suspicion is that he is trying to get a few extra quid and some form of recognition (deservedly I would say); I think this debacle will be put to rest before the January transfer window commences. He is an asset alright but a RVP he is not. The two clubs that have shown interest in the EPL are Man City and Liverpool- he should know he would waste away at City and I dont see Arsene letting him go to Pool without Sterling coming to us, which in itself is not a bad idea to be frank.

I don't buy this I want to play through the middle stuff with him at all.maybe he does but no one is going to play him through the middle and he has to know that.

In a month or so he is free to sign a pre contract with someone with a massive signing on fee and prob more per week. I just dont see him staying.

I can't remember any player who's contract has run down this much that has resigned for the same club.

I've lost all faith in footballers. It's 99% about the money

It's just a job to them, cant expect a footballer to care as much about the club as supporters do. If all footballers had that loyalty then we wouldn't even have this problem with Theo as he'd still be playing for Southampton.

If he went to City there's no way they'd play him down the middle. Seriously, who would you drop to accomodate him? Aguero? Tevez? Dzeko? Balotelli?
Can't see him moving to 'pool either. He'd essentially be kissing Champion's League football goodbye for an extra season.
If Chelsea went in for him I could see him going there though. They don't have the intense competition at CF and will almost certainly be in the CL net season.

Walcott is simply too small to play in the middle. He is a winger and an average one too although I do see improvement in him this season. He might be cutting his own throat by moving from Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,531 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

I don't see what club Walcott would be playing up front for. Chelsea maybe? Although he's not exactly a big enough name for them. Pool aren't going to play him ahead of Suarez.

Bergkamp did for several years when he would only get offered one year deals. Not sure how many times but he was on the one year deals for a bit IIRC.

Good point, never thought about it that way before.

    eh...look at Messi :P

But really, for a team who doesn't put in that many crosses, a tactic or just down to the players inability to, they need a finisher in the box. Walcott is a finisher

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,205 ✭✭✭Gringo180

I dont get people saying Walcott is too small to play up front, his main asset is his pace and if he gets first run on you theres no catching him and 9 times out of ten he will stick it in the back of the net. Reminds me a bit of Michael Owen although in saying that I would rate Owen the more natural finisher.

I love how civilised Arsenal fans are. Its not a protest march, its a protest walk.

IIRC, the last two seasons weren't even one year deals, but 'paid when you play' deals.
