So, on the basis of their being *some* rude people out there (a minority in my experience) "people" are arseholes - and you make a point of not being helpful to others... on the basis of some rude people? Really? You wouldn't help someone with for instance a buggy up steps?

Ah of course - I always do that.
Or if there was an elderly person who couldn't get up out of their seat, or something like that.
But on the most part, I just let them at it - I wouldn't go out of my way like - I used to - all the time, but after a lifetime of getting reactions like the op did, I don't bother so much.
If someone looks like they are really struggling, or if they specifically ask for help, I probably would though.

Thank God she didn't buy any Mentos. The OP could have been seriously injured with all that exploding coke.

a few years ago a friend of mine was wrong changed in a shop, he got too much change back. Thinking he was doing the right thing, he turned at the door and went back to the cashier and explained he had been given incorrect change.
The woman at the til pointed to a sign at the counter which said 'Please check your change before leaving the counter..' blah blah, and more or less told my friend to take a hike.
He said ok, thanks, and explained he had been given €10 extra, and if that was the shop's policy then that was fair enough. She actually tried to argue back saying that the rule only worked when a customer was given too little change, she hadn't a leg to stand on by that stage

So last night, myself and the wife went to supermarket to get a few groceries. We bought our stuff, hopped backed into the car and drove toward the car park exit. Now, it was busy so the cars were all moving fairly slowly. Anyway, I saw this woman coming out of the shop, put her groceries on the roof of her red mini cooper, unlock the door, hop into her car and drove off with the the bag of groceries still on the roof.
As I said all the cars were moving slowly towards the exit in 2 lanes, so I gave her a little beep to get her attention and I started pointing at the roof of her car. Yer wan starts shouting and roaring out the window, "who the fcuk are you to start hooting at me?! who do you think you are?", all very aggressively. She gave me the finger and took off, you have to turn right when exiting the car park, as she took the right the bag of shopping came off the roof and went all over the road, burst carton of milk, bread, broken jam jars, exploding 2 litre bottles of coke all over the road. I pulled up beside her, gave her another little beep and a smile and drove off! All I was doing was trying to alert her to the fact that she left her shopping on the roof of her car and all I got was agression and abuse. Serves the wagon right....

Its weird. I find that the beep of a fellow driver is almost always interpreted as intimidating by people on the receiving end.

I had a similar situation, except I was the idiot.

I got to a set of lights and there was a van behind me. The lights went green and I went off. Seconds into driving from the lights the van started beeping it horn and pointing upwards. I was convinced he was moaning because I hadn't taken off the second the light went green.

He kept up with me and was flashing the whole time. I could see him in my rear view mirror, he could see I could see him. But I couldn't understand what he was moaning about.

I just kept looking at him in my rear view mirror and shrugging my shoulders/arms in a "what are you moaning about?" kind of way.

Anyway, got into traffic a couple of hundred yards down the road and we were stopped. He beeped again and I was like "WTF?" and I turned my head around to look out the back window of the car..

what was he beeping at? Well the boot of my car was wide open. The boot of my car is the back of my car. So in affect, there was nothing there! I had been looking at the guy in my mirror the whole time through a hole in the back of my car and I had no idea what he was on about.

I got out and gave him a wave, did an oul /facepalm and he had a laugh about it.

    Stupidest. Day. Ever.

what kind of beep did you do? It might have been an aggressive one

It wasn't, twas only half a toot, I was conscious of the fact that I didn't want to come across aggressively, I even had a small smile on my face.

    Are you not "people"?

Most people that I have encountered are as nice to me as I am to them. So pretty damn nice actually.

Yeh, there are arseholes, but they are in the minority, and whatever anyone says about "circumstance" or any of that crap. People who are arseholes, choose to be arseholes.

Cool story OP, she got what she deserved!

If only the majority of people were nice....if only. Youre very lucky to have a minority of arseholes in your life whoopsadaisydoodles...

I was queing at the bar at a concert in Marley park when the girl infront dropped her wallet. I tapped her on the shoulder and said sorry you.... I was cut off with oh for F#@Ks sake can't guys just leave me alone i can't even get a drink without being hit on or words to that effect.
I replied deadpan you dropped your wallet but she didn't even grasp that and told me to leave her alone. I pointed her wallet out to her buddy at that point.
She was morto at that stage when she realised what had happened.

Was she parking in a family car parking space as well.. I hope she was. That should happen to all people who park in family spots with no kids.

    YES I'm LOOKING AT YOU!

    people are horrible things.
Why is this emo sh1t so respected by people (the irony)?

If everyone seems horrible to you, maybe you need to look at yourselves. Maybe you are one of those horrible people and have a skewed view of the world...

The dictionary definition of Karma should be replaced with that story.
I would have given the b1tch an awful dose of car horn as I drove past, just to vex her even more :)

You know what, I've been through so much sh*t in my life, sh*t that most people wouldn't even comprehend, and I realised that life is too short to allow arseholes into my life to bring me down. So I don't.

How people treat you in these situations can be very influenced by how you look. If they perceive you to be someone like them or their type they'll be far more receptive to you.

People would treat me differently in bike gear than when I wasn't coated in leather. It's not necessarily negative either.

My exact reason for not bothering to be nice to people who are for the most part - arseholes! :)
