    Wow now hang on.

A left back getting caught wrong side or sliding in with an attacking player say a yard or two out is regular, and hard enough to defend, but ball watching and getting caught wrong side from 5 yards out in unforgivable.

You kid yourself and think Johnson never got caught out that way.

Our system functioned well today, in a way that 3 at the back hasn't for us.

At the end of the day what happened to Downing happens to full backs every week. It's happened to Johnson and Enrique more than once. It's a difficult thing to defend

I don't think it did. We got destroyed when Spurs came at us for the first 20 minutes. Spurs got the two goal lead and basically sat back and said break us down if you can and we'll just play on the break. It was as much them sitting back that allowed us back into the game and made us look half decent.

So many tight games in the Premier league are decided late on.
Liverpool haven't scored in the last 15 mins yet :(
14 games into the season thats just shocking.
12th position and 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
Exactly where we deserve to be

for me his honeymoon with fans is now over, he talked the talk, now its time to walk the walk

Right. 24 competitive games in. It's not the start anymore.

I'm sorry but if people are satisfied with 1 point from 6 against spurs and swansea then we truly have fallen a long away

awful, same old deficiencies, defensive lapses, poor final ball, lack of finishing - our points total is embarrassing.

Games like this are huge for the season, a win and our unbeaten record survives and we get real confidence and have an outside shot of CL if we strengthen in January...but a loss and we are level with Norwich in the table, it's not good enough, anyone who tries to put positive gloss on things is lowering expectations - we should be doing better and have more points, simple as that

rodgers doesn't have the balls to drop gerrard, he doesn't have the intelligence to drop sterling because he thinks playing kids will mean he gets more kudos and time and that he can talk about "long-term" goals

his signings so far have been distinctly average

fair enough the legacy of kenny's second reign has set us back in a massive way but neither the owners or rodgers are showing the signs of being able to dig our way out of the hole

just really disappointed with that result, a win was very achievable, seasons turn on games like that and we are destined for the midtable doldrums again - our only goal an absolute fluke despite all the huffing and puffing - gutted!

Says your man. What did Gerrard do today? Hit 2 nice passes as you said yourself but other that he was **** and if you deny that its ironic what you say in the bold part of your quote.

He needs to be dropped or moved forward. Personally I'd like to see him dropped for 2 games to get his head in order. We're only bashing him because we know he has more to his game than he's showing. Yours and a few others blind loyalty to him is sad.

I disagree that they were destroying us. Bale was giving us hell, sure. They were the better team for the first 20, but we had two excellent chances before they got their second.

Spurs didn't sit back, for a lot of the game they couldn't get out. During their good periods you could see what they were trying to do was keep the ball and pin us back.

The first 20 minutes of a game is not enough to judge how the first 90 will pan out.

You kid yourself and think Johnson never got caught out that way.

He was actually ball watching from about 8yrds out, and still with Agger ahead of him (so not actually trying to play off side now was he) he fell asleep and Lennon jogged past.

That's disgraceful and no a seasoned defender would not allow that to happen, and yes I think Robinson should be introduced into the team if it means keeping Downing out of the LB position, as he had already given us a couple of cardiac moments to date.

Glenjo diving in about a minute prior to that didn't help matters either.

Some credit where it is due.

We were the better team for the majority of the game but we folded at a key moment.

We CANNOT concede first with out current goalscoring problems.

Another disappointing result. Drop Gerard and Sterling ?... and who do we replaced them with. Sahin was been awful. Hendo got his chance and fluffed his lines. I like both players but we cant afford to mammy them.

Downing, while he has improved slightly. He has to go, out. Is kelly out long term ? Himself and Johnson make two solid full backs. Enrique on one wing, Gerarrd on the other. Shelvey has shown promise but he needs to step up and for the love of God we need an option up front.

Lets keep this in perspective, we conceded a well worked goal by spurs followed by a lucky deflection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,705 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

For reference, if we went the rest of the way with a 2ppg average in the league we would finish with 64 points - good enough for 4th or better four times in the 20 team era. And not since 2005.

The Udinese game is the season now, make no mistake about it.

Talk of "dropping" Sterling are absolute nonsense.

Rest him, yes. But he was absolutely fine this evening. He did some good things, and some bad things. He was in and out of the game. That's almost any winger in the PL for you.

Anyone who strolls to a stop with no interest/notion whos coming over his shoulder, has no business on a pitch.

If it was anyone else, i'd say there's no way he was playing the trap with agger in front of him.. But with Downing, I cant be sure!

Same with Gerrard. They could take a leaf out of Skrtels book.

Was 4th your expectation for the season?

Anyone expecting Liverpool to come 4th is doing so purely on their reputation as a big club. We have average 7th for the last 3 years and were not exactly on the receiving end of heavy investment in the summer.

All you had to do was look what they did when they had the ball after the two goals to see that Spurs sat back. The tried to just pass it around and kill the game. Fair enough they weren't very successful at it but they had absolutely no urgency in getting the ball forward with the same speed as in the first 20 minutes.

Sahin played his best game of the season imo in his last match against Young Boys and playing in his natural position. When Lucas comes back it should be the 2 of them and Allen in midfield and maybe giving Suso the chance in the league too. I'd move Gerrard up on the wing or even up front with Suarez going on the wing and Assaidi or Enrique other side.

Spurs' defense there was abysmal! They opened up and let us walk in, and we didn't win. So, Spurs deserved the 3 points.

If they were capable of attacking like that for 90 minutes they would be a much better team. They can't turn it on and off at will.

I can just about live with the gutting disapointment of tonight's result, but the excuses from fans is too much.

What's it going to take to see the wood from the trees ?

    A relagation battle?

Ahh here as much as Downing frustrates me the guy was basically told we have a slot at LB if you want it or feck off.

Think we know the answer to that one then.

Rodgers is trying to fit over £40 Million of square pegs into round holes, half of that is Downing, just give up, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, never mind the £35 Million pound donkey out on loan.

Henderson is young but just look star dazed, Enrique was cheap, give him a couple of months and he'll look average again.

We've a run of games coming up before we visit Man U in the New Year which will define the season and maybe if Brendan can hang onto his job - Southampton, West Ham, Aston Villa, Fulham, Stoke, QPR and Sunderland.
