Install Package Files from the XMB.

So thats not an option in 4.30? Weird, I wonder why! How are you meant to install homebrew in that case?

You need to install Multiman 04.12.00 and then install 4.30 V2, I found it a bit weird as well since I remember installed packages before cr*pping out on me.

I installed rogero 4.30 on mine on Saturday.
Working fine but having a couple of small issues.
I can't seem to get streaming or Netflix working?
    Anyone any ideas.
    Thanks.

E3 Flasher doesn't actually need soldering, you clip it onto a chip on the motherboard. But you still need to open the PS3.

Also from a video I saw (very interesting to watch) you need more hardware other than what you get with the E3 Flasher (if you can find anywhere to buy it).

Cheers for the video was quite an interesting (yet daunting) watch.

I'll hopefully have a PS3 in the next week or so (Fat Original) but I am presuming/dreading that it's going to be on a firmware higher then 3.55.

If it is on a downgradeable firmware is the E3 Flasher my best option? If yes who could I pay to do it for me or if that not an option where can I buy one?

Afaik if it's 4.21 or lower you can use the Rogero 999 downgrader to get it back to 3.55cfw.

Unfortunately the Rogero 999 downgrader from my understanding can only downgrade CFW and not OFW which will be on the machine I'm getting.

Reason I was getting a PS3 was to put CFW on it for (had a 3.55 PS3 ages ago) but after reading a bit more about the PS3 release date it think it will be a NAND model so that would require soldering etc - a no go area for me.

Nope, you need a nand flasher in that case.

I've a boxed 60GB launch model on 3.55 on adverts, open to offers :)

Yeah nand flashers are bad idea for me.

Sorry never realised you had it also on adverts as just saw it in Modded Console sales thread... you can ignore my PM then :o

Sorry I dunno... the entire area of PS3 CFW is filled with danger and confusion. Same thing with the Wii... you try and find out how to do one thing and you find a forum post from 2008 that is so irrelevant now that if you actually try it you'll brick the console.

I bow to your superior knowledge kind sir. :)

My knowledge of PS3 modding is quite limited. I done the very first usb jog hack when I got my hands on a board, I then patched an OFW to Kmeaw CFW through the command line method {to be sure to be sure}.

I've installed a few pkg's, done some ftp'ing, & thats basically it. I know nothing about these newer cfw's, short of needing hardware to downgrade from official firmware :o

Is that not only for CFWs greater than 3.55?

Balkie, let me know if u get one of those downgrader dongle yokes! I upgraded my PS3 to 4.20 there about a week before this whole new CFW talk started. Been lookin for someone to borrow a dongle off since!! :p

The downgrade tool isn't a dongle, you have to strip the ps3 down and physically wire this to the nand either by soldering or using a fit-clip {the those clips arn't ideal, especially while messing about with nand}.

A dongle would be a far nicer solution, plug in to usb & click downgrade :) Alas, it can't be done :(

As EnterNow rightly says it ain't a USB dongle and is quite a tricky process.

Have a look at this video as this is the process you would need to go through.

I was intially going to give it a go till I realised the PS3 I was going to buy would have been NAND (the one in the video above is NOR) so would have required soldering and lot more effort to get working.

I'm now going down an alternative route ;)

Oh bugger. Looks like the PS3 wont be getting any use ever again!

I might try repair my other 3.55 one actually. I could just swap the laser, and then try fix that little wire (with yellow connector) that connects the BD-ROM drive to the board on top of it. The top of it snapped off when i was detaching it!

Anyone know how to fix that?

Just buy the proper replacement parts, its not worth faffing about with tiny little connections like that I find. The laser is handy enough to replace on them, just be mindful of the gearing in the drive tray. If it goes out of timing, you'll have to re-time the whole thing & that can be head melting to say the least.

I done one before for someone on here & it took me hours to get the drive timed up properly, could have done it in my sleep by the time I was finished :(

i think the wire i'm talking about is attached directly to the drive. Seems a bit mad to replace the whole drive coz of a simple little wire.

Are you sure it doesn't disconnect somewhere from the logic board, not really sure of the wire your talking about tbh

See the wire he talks about after 3:28? Well when I tried to detach that, I pulled the wire, not the plastic connector bit and the wire snapped, leaving bits stuck inside the plastic connector.

He actually says in that video if you break it, its not the end of the world as he often sells spare wires from his site. So basically what happened you is the wires broke on yours, leaving the head of the connector in the socket is it? Have you traced the wires as far as you can back into the drive itself to see if it detaches?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,940 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

lol I have no sound in work so didnt hear him say that. I just searched the video to show the cable.

Ye, my wires broke, leaving the head in the socket, but i can take the head out of the socket. The head also has a bit of the wires still inside it so I'd need some really really small knife or screwdriver or whatever to even get into it. Actually, I'd need a magnifying glass just to be able to see in it ,thats how small and skinny the wires are.

I can't remember if I traced the wire to see if its detachable. I must have another look when I get a chance. If he sells replacement wires, like you said, then surely it must be detachable. Dunno why I didnt check that before. Sounds like something I would have done first!

Just to keep some people updated the new Rogero CEX-4.30 v2.03, that's out now, does have an install package files built in, it is no longer needed to downgrade to 3.55 anymore to update and you can install it through the XMB instead of having to go through the recovery menu.

I'm after buying a 500GB for my new 60GB phat PS3 (thanks EnterNow :)) that currently on Kmeaw 3.55.

I think it should be just these steps but just wanted clarification.:
    Backup data
    Swap hard drives
    Format new hard drive
    Install 3.55 OFW from USB
    Install 3.55 CFW from USB
    Restore data
    Install packages etc
    Enjoy

Is there a reason you're sticking with Kmeaw 3.55? you know that there's a hacked 4.30 firmware now right?

new to all this, but i have an old ps3 running 4.3 I think.

whats the best guide to follow when installing the CFW?
    any help greatly appreciated.

Yeah I was tempted by the newer firmware but I have a few things that will only work with 3.55 so once I've fixed them I'll will update to the latest Rogero custom firmware. Also I hear its better to be on this firmware for drive swaps.

You can't easily is the short story... long story is that it requires soldering etc (check previous page). You would need the PS3 to be on version 3.55 or lower before you can use CFW.

After the 3.55 fiasco with 60GB'ers bricking I would double then triple check that new MFW/CFW aren't going to repeat, call me paranoid but I class the 60GB'ers above the rest.

Not a bother man, that console is begging for a 500GB hdd :)

Whats this about them bricking, was it in the early days of 3.55cfw or something?
