I'm only after noticing now that Rogero has offically released updated firmware for the PS3 a few weeks ago (plus a few revisions).

Seems latest version is Rogero CFW4.40 v1.03

Below are some of the release notes for it
Rebuilt the CFW with minimal patches needed for similar OFW Stability, also adding full compatibility with multiMAN Tools.
All known issues from v1.02 are fixed now (XMB PS2 Game Saves, Sequential Video Playback, Media Server always on)
Removed Cinavia Patch used on v1.02 because of some compatibility issues (When DEX4.40 is public it will be added properly again)
Added the ToolBox to [app_home/PS3_GAME] to restore multiMAN/StealthMAN launch mode from ToolBox.
Updated the ReactPSN patch to work offline without the need to log into PSN at all (Credits for Team Rebug for their 4.30.1 Patch)
Added both noBD/noBT patches to allow installation on consoles with broken BluRay Drive or Bluetooth board.

This CFW can be installed fine from XMB Update over OFW3.55 or any CFW ver: 3.55/4.21/4.30/4.40
Added the needed patches for the Original "*Install Package Files" Credits to Szalay and "hidden Man".
HDD can be swapped/changed and the CFW will re-install without any problem.
Patched LV1 to disable LV2 Protection.
Patched LV1 to add peek/poke support.
Patched LV1 Core OS Hash Check (to prevent Bricking on non-dehashed downgraded consoles)
Patched LV2 to add peek/poke support.
QA Flag enabled by default to allow for easier downgrading using Recovery Menu.
RSOD screen bypass patch for RSOD machines (it won't fix the RSOD but allows the PS3 to boot fine into XMB)
PSN/SEN access is available but it's not recommended.
It can run games signed with Keys up to version 4.40 without any Eboot/Sprx patching needed.

I'm currently on Rogero 4.21 so the update to 4.40 would have some advantages and from what I understand it should be a simple enough update from my current version (it's the bolded part above)

Just wondering if anyone here is using it and if they are how are they finding it?

Justv incase anyone isn't aware, there's a new fan utility out for modded PS3's...a utility I'd definitely use if I still had a cfw PS3

That was only 5 wires. My skills have waned alot since then.

Is it possible to jailbreak a ps3 that has the OFW 4.41? If not, is there any way to downgrade?

There is no software upgrade option available to put 4.41 CFW on your PS3 from 4.41 OFW

Your only option is to use a hardware flasher like a Progskeet or an E3 to downgrade your firmware to 3.55 OFW, then you can install 3.55 CFW and upgrade to 4.41 CFW. This option of the hardware flasher is only open to older consoles, ones that shipped with base firmware <= 3.55 so you're roughly looking at PS3s with manufacturing dates before February 2011.

There is a way to check the base firmware by downloading MinVerChk. The instructions for using it can be found here.

Be warned that a hardware flasher should only be attempted by somebody with experience soldering. There is a high risk that you will brick your console if something goes wrong, you're soldering straight to the NOR/NAND memory chip in the PS3 and if it blows without having been read your console is a paperweight.

    Oh right,

And roughly how much would someone "in-the-know" charge to do this? I've had a look at the sticky but most of the posts are old.

While most of the posts are old that doesn't mean the providers are no longer doing the service, drop a few of them a PM and see. Don't be afraid to look towards the UK if you can't find somebody here willing to do it for you - console postage over & back should be around €15 each way with GLS Parcel Shop.

I pm'd most of the providers in the sticky in the past(looking for a waninkoko fix) and none of them offered even a regular downgrade service.
Hopefully that has changed but if it has you would hope they updated their ad.

I had an offer of installation of a flasher alright but finding someone in Ireland offering a reputable downgrade service is like winning the Lotto :(
I've used a UK service for the downgrade in the past, but even he has retired now.
V.Hard to find someone offering a downgrade service now.

The problem with PS3 nand work is its extremely hard to justify your time put into it, versus what you can realistically charge a customer. Also, it's pretty delicate work...it requires moderate/advanced soldering skills, of which not everyone has. I think the cost is the big one though

    Agree 100%.

On the cost front, I know more than a few who have sent ps3's to the UK for Downgrade.
In my own case the last NAND phat I had done worked out at
At £40stg for the downgrade and £55stg for a reball and ;10stg for return shipping.
So if it was to be rounded of @ €50 for the downgrade + shpping
And maybe €65+ shipping for reballs then one could be competitive with UK pricing with the added attraction of being ''local' ish at least.

That said with the amount of work involved, it really cant be cost effective even at those prices.
Aside from the hardware investment i.e flasher and rework station and so on, the actual time taken over the soldering\desoldering it doesn't make for a great hourly rate for the person doing the work.

Yeah, it's a labour of love rather than a business venture considering the amount chargeable and the hours it takes.

On eBay their are a few people offering to downgrade your console to 3.55 ofw, for £30 + £12 delivery. Anyone tried these people out? That's about the price of a game so it would be worth it.

I'm suprised eBay allow people to advertise this service isn't it against their t&cs?

Your machine actually needs to be firmware 3.55 to begin the custom firmware process.

Unfortunately I don't think you can downgrade your machine back to 3.55 unless you use some form of hardware soldering.

TouchingVirus made a good post on this on the previous page.
