As for reyes, for 2 months he was world class, then the nevilles and scholes triumvirate of evil got him and he was never the same.

That's clutching at straws to misrepresent how many 'world class' players we had back in the day. It's like saying Diaby is world class when fit.

Reyes never did it for us, simple as. He had a great run of form but United ended that and I don't think he ever recovered, at Arsenal or elsewhere. I would not count him as world class. Of those originally listed, I'd only count Henry and Vieria as world class. The likes of Bergkamp, Pires etc in the next bracket.

Today, I'd say Sagna is our only true world class player. Cazorla and Wilshere not far behind though so you could count them if you were feeling generous.

I think you can put Bergkamp in that world class bracket tbh. The man practically has his own separate 'goal of the decade competition' . Arguably the best most innovative ingenius player ive ever seen wear the red and white. Henry was super absolutely incredible but Bergkamp was an artist.

Bergkamp was definately world class. What a lot of people don't realise is that he finished up with us ages 37, so his last 4 seasons with us he was past his best, but still of a top Premier League club standard.

Earlier in his career he was in a league of his own. I'm talking about those later years when the likes of Reyes, Fabregas etc were coming along. If we're talking about Bergkamp at his peak, we're going to have to change a lot of the players mentioned. Seaman for Lehmann etc which makes it a different argument.

That was my understanding anyway, the time around when Bergkamp retired rather than his whole career. Still a great player, but I don't think he retired as world class.

A miserable weekend with journalists keen to fan the flames of discontent amongst Arsenal supporters. Point 1 was a real breath of fresh air...

I don't care what nationality the players are.

I don't care what nationality the players are.

English players are more likely to remain loyal to the club. We need to find some Arsenal DNA.

me neither and i don't buy the need for a club to have a British core but it's good to read something positive

I disagree, there is no loyalty in football these days regardless of nationality. We saw that ourselves with our own Academy Graduate Ashley Cole. You couldnt have got any more "Arsenal DNA" than with him at the time.

Can't help but think that if there was any chance of Walcott signing it would have been done by now.

I'm pretty sure he's off. Very disappointing - hopefully his replacement will be a better player.

In fairness the club offered him a pretty poor deal, something like £55,000 a week, he was looking for £60,000 and the club wouldnt budge.

He was either world class then or was going to be very soon and the club didnt look after him the way a club should look after their top players.

Ya he did the dirty and was caught but it wouldnt have gotten that far had the club gave him what he wanted. Im pretty sure David Seaman came out a couple of years ago and said as much. If I find the article I'll post a link.

There's one in our colours. I think Wenger was using this one on Sat last.

DB is coaching Ajax now, isn't he?

I note that ex-Arsenal legend Remi Garde* is doing a good job at Lyon. One to watch for the future?

*IIRC, he was bought in a double swoop with Vieira.

The Money appreciation gene was more dominant then the Arsenal gene :)

Correct DB is number 2 to Frank de Boer at Ajax. Dont know much about Garde now as i dont follow French football much but at the time the only explanation i seen for his signing other then backup was perhaps a coaching role down the line.

First I've heard of the black scarf movement. From reading up on them they sound like they exist in an idealistic fantasy.

This is pretty cool, letter from Arsenal FC congratulating Karl Lacey, All-Star Footballer of the year and a Gunner fan, and signed by Wenger. Hope he's right about the trophies part :D

I'd love to know who thought Man City vs Wigan is a better option than Everton vs Arsenal to show on TV.

If ya think he is slipping or not, it's still an amazing job the boss has done for the last seven years. Very good read this
