As the former Central Bank it would make an ideal museum to the history of Irish banking fúck ups of recent years that have landed us in the mess we're in now.

Only problem is, the place mightn't be big enough to house such an exhibition of incompitence.

For this very reason I reckon the Anglo shell on the quays should be left as is, as a monument to all that was wrong with the last few years. There's plenty other buildings that I'm sure could accomodate the Central Bank.

But that's a different argument, in fairness.....

They should make it into a legal brothel. Each floor can cater to a different fetish, getting weirder and freakier as you ascend.

    There aren't actually.

As for turning the Central bank into a library, I don't think it is a runner. For one the building is enormous, I don't know what you would fill it with. Secondly, it would require a major refit to make it capable of carrying the weight of the books.

It is really only suitable for offices. I'm guessing they will try and sell it to a major international financial institution. They could even recentralise some civil servants there. I'd stick the department of the environment there and open up the Custom House.

Great place for a city library with study zones and quiet areas in the city centre. Maybe a rooftop garden if possible. Its a big building so make it accessible to a few different tastes.

They should put in a shít load of "cube" rooms that move around at regular intervals. Then in the middle of the night we can kidnap a few assholes (I nominate Bertie Ahern, John Waters, Twink, Sean Fitzpatrick & Jedward) and **** them in a room and sit back and enjoy them trying to figure out how to escape. Preferably they'll all just kill each other and/or die by booby trap, but it's likely that Jedward will escape as they're "special".

It should be made into public toilets and puke rooms for Temple Bar. If it is not big enough a few huts could be put on the plaza to take the overflow.

Has anyone been to the central Library recently. You can never get a seat and when it opens at 10am every seat is gone by 10;30 by students studying or language students studying.

The central library isnt the best in the ilac as its the most easy thing to get to. You have to walk through the ****ty centre to get to it and there is nothing open by 6 pm. If the library was open planned it would definitely be used.

Forget turning it into a homeless shelter etc. Dublin 2 already has a enough social problems without adding more to it

Strip away as much as possible, but use the concrete frame to create an ascending, accessible modern hanging gardens, Babylon style.

How about not moving the central bank at all and selling off that former Anglo HQ for some commercial purpose?

I find it hard to believe they could possibly need that much space.

The central bank is currently split over three sites in Dublin. Dame St, Harcourt St and the IFSC.. Dame St was too small a long time ago for the operation.

I actually found a video documentary on the construction of the building. Interesting to see Dublin the way it was in the early 70's

There is **** all for families in central Dublin so they should have things like the Fry Model Railway in there and a Kids science park and lots of things for the family. Central Dublin is a ****ty place for families with kids compared to other cities.

One massive nightclub with actual good music. It would be brilliant!

An Arts space - connected with Modern Art Museum, and NCH maybe - redo some part of it as a theatre for music and plays, other parts of it for exhibitions - It'd really improve the area I think.

The IFB should get a large portion of it for storage of archive footage, they need it.

What- the Central Bank is moving premises? Can't believe I didn't hear about that. Not to ask a possibly overdone question but- what's wrong with the current building?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,114 ✭✭✭OU812

Lads, like so many other buildings/sites it'll stand empty for up to five years before someone buys it at a knockdown price & turns it into apartments.

Personally I'd love to see some amenities like a science museum on one floor, library on another, kids activity centre on another etc

I actually wasn't aware of it myself, but thinking about it now - Didn't they purchase the building which was supposed to be Anglo's new HQ?

Science Museum at Trinity is a bit too close by for that to work.

Agree on teh library, maybe move the one from the Ilac to a floor of that building.

Interesting, I haven't been keeping up with local news recently.

Yeah, East Wall i think it is.
If the staff are moving there, it's a bit of a trek for them, not half as nice an area either.

Knock it and turn it into a park with seating for nearby coffee shops.
