Reading Jordan Henderson's interview in today's papers I must say I am impressed with him wanting to prove himself. I do feel he hasn't let the side down this year when he has played.

He just does not seem to have confidence weather that is to do with his price tag or something else (I think he is intimidated playing with Gerrard) I do hope the Lucas effect happens for him at Liverpool and he grows into player.

I thought he did well on Sunday against Swansea. What he brings to the team is workrate and good pressing, which is something that Gerrard doesnt offer, certainly at the moment.

He seems quite a limited footballer though, especially attack-wise. He just doesnt offer enough creatively to be a starter, especially when Lucas is back.

Hope he improves, I cant help liking him, but i dont think his long-term future will be at Liverpool unfortunately.

The thing I don't understand about the whole Henderson purchase, is what is his role? Or what purpose was he bought for?

He's not a DM, he doesn't seem to be an AM and apart from one or two instances he doesn't appear to be a creative CM.

Perhaps he needs more games to define himself, he is young but I think this move came way too early for him.

That is from the interview that was published last week, I think Suarezistheman may be referring to what Werner said in the aftermath of the last day of the summer transfer window, when he made comments about there being funds available to buy top class young players.

Kess I made a post yesterday about Son at Hamburg. He was recommended by Molby last night on LFCtv. Would he be a good choice. His main attributes are explosive pace, dribbling abilities, composure in front of goal, and hard-working nature. Mike made reference that Arnesen who worked with BR at Chelski is now at Hamburg & It's all related.

Ray Houghton replacement ....with Downing as the new Barnes and Adam reprising the Molby role... if Carroll had a tash he could have been the next Ian Rush :p

I think part of that problem is that he has yet to play in any position for a regular length of time, He seems to be used as the utility midfielder last season and this. Maybe Lucas being injured last season and this season has hurt Henderson as much as it has hurt the rest of the team.

Liverpool Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rodolfo Borrell as head of academy coaching, with Tottenham's Alex Inglethorpe replacing him as reserve team coach.

Borrell arrived at the club in July 2009 and has overseen the development of several players now in the first team, initially as U18s coach and latterly as boss of the reserves.

His promotion has created an opportunity for Inglethorpe, a former midfielder with Watford, Leyton Orient and Exeter who has worked with the U18s at Spurs with distinction for several years.

Frank McParland continues with his role as Academy director, with first-team manager Brendan Rodgers praising his contribution to the club's continued commitment to developing exciting young talent.

Rodgers commented: "I'm delighted that Alex has decided to join us in our journey to create a philosophy that runs directly through the club. He has many years of experience in youth football and also managed at senior level. His unswerving belief and commitment to our way of working will bring continued success in this role.

"I've been extremely impressed with Rodolfo in my short period at the club. His thinking is very similar to mine in the best way to educate and develop players. His role will make richer the philosophy we are creating at the club from U9s through to the first team.

"I'm also delighted with the great work done by Frank McParland in leading the Academy and I look forward to working closely with him to continually develop our talents to play for the first team."

The appointments have been welcomed by McParland.

"I'm delighted for Rodolfo," he said. "He's been heavily involved with the club for three and a half years as U18s manager and then reserve team coach.

"He brings invaluable experience to this new role and I'm sure it's going to be a smooth transition.

"Alex also has great experience from working with the U18s at Spurs for many years, where he has helped to produce some fantastic players.

"I'm sure he is going to help us push on at academy level. It's a fantastic appointment and I'm looking forward to working with him over the coming years."

Oddly enough I think he'd be great in a midfield partnership with Lucas. Gerrard is a club legend but there's a touch of the same effect that Thierry Henry had in his last season with Arsenal. Younger players are intimidated by him and defer to him too much, laying off the ball to him rather than trying something themselves.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Andre Wisdom will be available for Liverpool's trip to Tottenham on Wednesday night.

The defender sat out Sunday's goalless draw with Swansea due to a knee problem, but is fit to take his place in the squad that will travel to White Hart Lane.

Rodgers told reporters at Melwood: "The squad is fine. Andre Wisdom will be back and available, which is good.

"Piece by piece we're getting there and the squad is looking strong.

"The most important thing at this stage is the mindset of the players. They're really focused on their job and we're looking forward to the game immensely."

One man also on the comeback trail is Lucas Leiva.

The Brazil midfielder played for an hour for the U21s on Friday, but won't be considered for the clash at Tottenham.

Rodgers added: "He won't be involved."

    Rodgers: My plan to compete

As the Reds prepare to take on a team with parallel aspirations in the Barclays Premier League, manager Brendan Rodgers has explained his plan to ensure Liverpool can compete.

The Reds are currently eight matches unbeaten in the league and could close the gap behind Tottenham Hotspur to one point with a victory at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Spurs invested heavily on players during the summer transfer window following their fourth place finish in 2011-12, but Rodgers insists there are other methods available to produce results.

Asked to elaborate on which of those avenues he will explore, Rodgers pledged the club will maintain a combined policy of investing in the best talent and developing young players.

The Northern Irishman said: "We're looking at a way of working, trying to be different in our way of playing - can we develop young players and bring them through?

"It's never easy as a youngster. You see some of the teams now that have got injuries and have to play young players, and the struggle it can be for them.

"It's been like that for a large part of the season for us but we've got on with our work, and the young players that have come into the squad have done fantastic.

"At Liverpool Football Club, you always want to be in for the top players and the top talents. This is a club that will bring those players here.

"A lot of players want to be in the Champions League so if they want to come here, that's an area we want to arrive in the coming years.

"We know we're not too far away - we're very close to arriving in that zone. You only need to look at some of the things that have gone against us this season, in terms of goals that were disallowed.

"If you take those points alone, that would have shot us right up there. But we're just going to take care of our own game and keep progressing. We know we have the qualities.

"If you go away to rivals and win then it can give you great confidence. Our performance level away from home has got better throughout the season. We know we can go there and win and that's what we'll look to do."

The journey to London comes in the middle of a crucial week for the Reds in the Premier League, and the manager wants his side to now start converting draws into wins.

"It's a big game against a rival. Tottenham have been up in that top four for the last few seasons and they have built their squad up well over the last four or five years," continued the 39-year-old.

"It hasn't just been one transfer window, they've done it over five six, seven transfer windows and it's left them a very strong squad.

"They obviously lost [Luka] Modric in the summer, but they've still got top players. It's going to be a difficult game but we've got a great resilience and commitment at the minute.

"We're showing that in our league games. Our consistency is starting to really show through. If we can just go that one step further and turn some of these draws into wins, then it can really push us on up the league."

Rodgers has introduced a new element to his team in recent weeks, with defender Jose Enrique being pushed forward into an attacking role - a move the manager believes suits all parties.

He reflected: "I think he's been outstanding and it's a great credit to him. He and I spoke earlier on in the season about trying to develop and improve his game.

"It's an interesting one because he's a real threat going forward with his pace and his power. You could see in the last three games how determined he is to get a goal.

"But you also see his defensive qualities because he's tracking back. He's been a real plus for us and it's great to see because he's worked very hard.

"It hasn't been easy for him but I think you've seen his commitment. How he's been working every day, you're seeing that now on the field.

"I'm delighted for him because he's good guy and he wants to do well for this club.

"Jose played in that position early on in his career but since he's come to this country he's played more as a full-back.

"You can see he's got the qualities to play the role - he is an offensive player who has got great pace and power, can take people on and he's a real threat when he gets into the final third.

"He's comfortable in the position, which is important, and it gives us that great thrust at the top end of the field."

Liverpool were frustrated by a disallowed goal and the crossbar during the 0-0 draw with Swansea on Sunday, but the manager is confident that the whole team can begin to find the target.

"I've always stressed it's the team - everyone will look to contribute. It's not been for the want of trying," said the boss.

"Our efforts on goal and shots on target in the majority of the games have been very high. We are just looking to improve how clinical we can be in those areas.

"At Swansea we had nine shots on target and didn't get a goal, but we know that. We just need to continue to work well and find ways to get the solution to that. That's what we'll do."

A front line of Long, Bent Cox would have have gone through young boys and there would be no need for arshavin

If we get in a loan signing or 2 that includes Darren Bent, the only relevant word that will come to mind is 'broke'.

If you look at what Dyers trying to do, he's trying to get under the ball and lift it over Reina, his foot was always going to be high but I don't see any malice in it.

There doesn't need to be malice. It was reckless and he could've really hurt Reina.

Anywhere else on the pitch, regardless whether there's malice or whether you're entitled to contest the ball, that's a seen as a reckless tackle and it's a booking.

I probably shouldn't do this but anyway...

When you look at the league table a win at WHL tomorrow would be massive.

It'd put us 1 point behind Spurs.

It'd also put us 1 behind Arsenal and 2 behind Everton, both of whom play each other tomorrow.

It's a game I depise every year though and a ground where our recent record is poor

Have not seen Son play much tbh, maybe seen him in 10 to 15 games this season and last combined as well as a few highlight shows, but from what I have seen I don't think he is going to be a finisher type player. Then again he is only around the 20 mark atm so has lots of time on his side.
If I had to guess I would say that he will end up being an out and out wide man sooner rather than later in his career or a wide forward type player. He is quick, does go past players, and does work hard as you have said, but would not regard him as being particularly composed in front of goal as he tends to snatch at shots a lot (maybe due to age ).

He is one of the young players that has made the best young players to watch lists the last few seasons in the German and French media, and as such there is quite a bit of hype surrounding him.

Oatsey would probably be the best poster to give an opinion on him though as he is a Hamburg supporter, and will have seen a lot more of Son than I would have.

One player at Hamburg that I have seen a bit of over the years is Skjelbred. Used to watch him a lot due to me following the career of Markus Henriksen ( The same player that now has me watching more Dutch football than ever before :D). It would appear that things how gone very sour at Hamburg for Skjelbred(cm and am) as he just did not fit in there at all, and he is one of the players that they want to get rid of in January. He refused a contract with us as a kid, but would not mind seeing him come in as squad cover (maybe even as a potential first teamer) if he was available on the cheap.

Unless he plays Downing at LB again I would imagine that Enrique will play LB as Wisdom will still be out. The only real alternatives are Agger at LB, Carra at RB and Johnson LB, or Robinson at LB. The only one of those that is viable tomorrow I reckon is Robinson at LB, but I think Enrique at LB is more likely.

Someone will likely be along though with a likely lineup soon which should prove which one it'll be.

Also, I assume this game is too early for Lucas? Possibly on the bench against Southampton I reckon.
