well ihope dont change the dublin price, price hasnt since yesterday its €350

Sorry to tell you but i had a look in HMV grafton and henry st. today. Both shops have the price increase. Gamestop and other shops seems to be the same. This is an absolute disgrace to be honest. Putting the price up like this last minute. We are now paying way over what the Americans are paying for it. Guess they have all their pre-orders now. It's an easy way to take in an extra 25 euro off every customer. Sickening :(

None of this would have happened If Nintendo had set a proper retail price from the beginning!

I think I'll wait until the hype dies down and pick one up next year sometime. Had zombi U set ordered but the €415 price tag doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I could be wrong but isnt the reason theres no set price is down to some sort of law in Europe? Not sure about that, but always thought Id heard that.

Personally I don't understand it. Nintendo were done for price or something which is why they're no longer allowed to set a price in Europe. Yet companies like Apple can keep their prices sky high as much as they want

I cancelled my preorder a few days ago before the price increase debacle, for several reasons (mainly financial, plus I would have preferred a white premium version, and the fact that I probably wouldn't have much time to actually play it, and not having many exclusives of interest to me). In fairness to HMV, they always tell me when I'm preordering that there's a chance that the price could change closer to the release date, and I guess this is especially true for long advance orders.

This is why I have never pre-ordered.

Sorry to all who got stung.

Consider it a lesson learned I guess.

I might pick one up next year if I get a new job that pays more than my current one.

50/50 on that though, may wait until other consoles come out and weigh it up then.

Really crappy thing to do, glad I didn't preorder with them now.I would have thought that a preorder price promise was for whether the price increased or decreased you still paid the original amount you preordered at. I don't think it has anything to do with Nintendo, I think HMV just wanted to suit themselves.
Hope everyone that preordered with them gets a fair deal don't think ye should be paying €415
Anyway not long to go now can't wait till Friday :)

I hope now that it is more powerful and has a more standard controller (map screen excluded :P), ports of games from other consoles will come and be up to par with their Xbox/PS rivals.

Always seems to be the downside to Nintendo. Also hope they make a decent Metroid game as the one on Wii was a bit pants.

No thanks, give me top tier exclusives anyday over the generic drivel aimed at pleasing everyone. It's one thing Nintendo have been incredible at in the past, they sure know how to make games.

God almighty, every time I hear any news about the Wii U it just gets worse and worse. 415 quid??!! Are you insane? I know that's more down to shop opportunism than Nintendo but that's just shocking. I was really looking forward to the Wii U as soon as the rumours started floating about. Loved the 2nd screen idea and it's gaming and media potential. Watched their terrible 2011 E3 live online and still kept the faith. Then watched another terrible Nintendo E3 in 2012 but, y'know, maybe. If it's decently specced and able to keep up for the next five or six years of 720/PS4 competition then hell yeah it'll be my only console purchase next gen. Its depressing. The games that caught my eye were Mass Effect and Arkham City. But I already played them on my current machines. And with Microsoft's blatant ripoff, but more ambitious and interesting smartglass on the way for current system (How long before Bioware back-port the 2nd screen additions to ME3 to the 360?) I think, sadly, I'll have to give Reggie, Mr. Iwatta and Mr Miyamoto a miss this time round.

I wish everyone who gets one well. I HOPE it does well but my cash is going to be limited so I can't risk a gamble on a soon-to-be-surpassed stopgap.

We know, and while its a good offer, it probably won't do much to lessen the sting of having to pay increased prices for the wii u...

I don't know I'd like to get it now that its in but I tend to wait a few months to a year it on the market before I'd buy anything like that. Want to know what the games are like first before I'd buy the console, console first then a game.

    Sounds good though.

Amazon.fr is cheapest by far, €286 basic and €334 premium, plug won't work here though.

clearly what happened with HMV some idiot mixed up the price originaly and now they realized they were charging 30 -40 quid less than most of the others so increased the price to match and are trying to cover up by putting the blame on nintendo. dont know out of principle should i just cancel my preorder and try and get one somewhere else or just buy it there and nothing else with it and just not shop there again.

No, I'd say that the system automatically adjusted the price for their internal exchange rate of nearly £0.90/€1 then later realised that that conversion would have them selling the units at a loss as the margins are very tight on consoles, especially when they are new.

    Any restrictions on HMV's €50 = €5 offer
(or what is the real deal on the promotion?)

    Thanks

No restrictions that I know of, just spend over €50 there and you get a fiver off the total, simple as that.

Just the usual exclusions such as it cant be used on gift cards, any Apple product and I think tablets are exempt as well, no mention that they can't be used on games consoles.

Also as they have displayed the prices instore at the time of ordering they have to honor the preorder price as they have advertised it at the advertised price points or else they are breaking Advertisement Law.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/consumer_affairs/consumer_protection/consumer_rights/consumer_advertising.html
In particular this Act protects consumers from misleading advertisements and ensures that trade is fair. Under the Act it is an offence for an advertiser/trader to make false claims about goods, services or prices.
