In the 80's, it didn't get cooler than this. Mullet, singing with eyes closed and a soundtrack to a coming of age brat pack film with Emilio Estevez. If it had a sax solo it would have every 80's stereotype!
I'd imagine it was popular in Germany till the mid 00's.

I honestly think if someone had hair like that now they'd be locked up, or at least referred to a psychiatrist.

Brilliant! I'd thank that twice if I could! Another (early one) was Ghost town, by the Specials, but I was serious about the millie vanillie stuff, was class, even if they did mime! I had an Uno Turbo at the time, span new, and used to blare it out of the tape deck! Missus is singing along to this!

I spend hours doing an 80's playlist a month ago, they're all fresh in my mind

SKA, . I had a south african girlfriend - She introduced me to more music than I knew existed! No-ones gone down the Michael jackson route - I was outside HMV on Oxford St the day he launched "Thriller", I still remember the buzz and excitement, then Dirty Diana, one of my all time faves, but not sure that's 80's. I also saw Prince saunter out of his limo at the height of his fame - Branson had started making CD's on that machine on Oxford st, they were the new big deal. Brilliant times.:D

Mech1, that's my all time favorite post on boards.ie, ever:D That's probably just me, but thanks anyway!:D I had a stall in Camden lock at the time and used to have that blaring on busy saturdays. I also still have the Jean Michel Jarre albums on vinyl, pure class! As an aside, anyone have any Sisters of Mercy, cos I did an awful lot of jumping around to them as well! Floodlands - the best album ever if you want to dance around the kitchen with your kids! But you have to play it really loud! Lucretia - the best.

That just rocks, in fairness! For anyone that was in London in the '80s, the Town and Country club in Kentish town was where it was at - I saw them play there, that petrol emotion were the support and the week after, a band called REM played, and I thought they were pretty good for a bunch of unknowns!

Went to see them two years ago and they still rock(ish)!. Crowd was a bit bigger though. Same goes for the Dandelion market on stephens green for those who remember, some new lads called U2 played and were pretty ok. A group called the undertones was getting known as well, with a moody but talented git called sharkey on vocals! I had two very pretty sisters and they got so many tickets to so many gigs, I think I saw and met almost every band going at the time! They still do, but I've less time for thrashing around at the front these days!.

Huge favourite of mine as a kid in the 80s... still love it today, such an upbeat song, always puts a smile on my face.

    Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out

This and west end girls! Erasure were starting to get some hits out as well - critics said they played music written by an apple mac, but I liked it! Didn't age that well though.

in the eighties the videos told stories, we've seen Pat Benatar leave home, hit the big bad city, and fight off the advances of some greasy latino with her new homies by dancing like the kids from fame - although I feel the home story is a bit unresolved. Here Dennis De Young going home to meet his hometown friends - does music in the eighties get any better cheesier than this?

Michael Peters is the link between that video and Thriller

And, based on that url, he is also linked with Hello where he is the dancing instructor. Another video with a full on story, talking bits and all.
