    Hi guys,

Considering buying a wii but want the one that plays gamecube games.

How do I tell whether its the old wii which did play them vs the newer wii that cant play them?

I've googled this and cant find the answer.

Is there a serial number or something simple that I can tell by looking at it as I dont have any gamecube games / controllers yet obviously to just test it.

    Thanks in advance.
    Eoin

The Wii Family Model doesn't have a flap on its left-hand side for Gamecube controllers and memory cards, and it generally comes in a box like this.

So, yes, look for the flap if you're buying second hand, and if not, just look for a box unlike the one above, that should pretty much do it.
