Great game by Giroud even though he didn't get a goal. I'm really warming to him now, despite my early reservations. Glad AW kept the faith in him.
Did Gervinho geta touch of the ball since coming on?

I'd love to see an assist table like this one. Come on Galvasean, give the people what they want

    Podolski : 7 goals and 4 assists,
Giroud: 7 goals and 5 assists,
Walcott: 9 goals and 6 assists

    That's a start.

Interesting stats there and really shows why we need to hold on to Walcott in my opinion.

But to be frank if we believe what the Mirror said the other day, I would be happy with R. Sterling coming over for us if we trade Theo. Long shot I know but it will be nice nonetheless.

This is happening right now though with Theo though! We'll probably lose him because we wont pay higher wages, he wont be the last either unless we change our wage structure and make it more competitive. I don't want us to start paying players 200k per week, but we need to close the gap between what we pay and what our rivals pay when it comes to top players.

Walcott/his agents are pushing the boundary regards wages, they're not asking for a whole lot more than what the club pay, they're looking for the best deal possible at arsenal - i think he'll stay, eventually they'll offer him nearer to what he wants & everyone will be happy - coincidently Walcott would be able to get wages around the same level as arsenal are at most willing to pay at another club, yeah right. They're getting the most they can from the club

The wages do need to be more competitive with the others for buying top players & keeping them, but the lack of trophies is as big if not bigger a problem in keeping them.

players aren't leaving arsenal just because of wages & it's foolish to think so, not saying you are but it is.
    robby^5 wrote: »
Exactly, they will be looking for a lot more. What happens when we offer them a contract well below their expectations?

But the higher the wages paid by the club the higher expectations will be when looking for new contracts.

Never mind the wages on offer elsewhere, if now arsenal pay at most 100k, around that will be the height of their expectations at arsenal, if arsenal start offering up to 150k then players expectations will also go up with it.

Wages should be increased for the better players but all of them would be looking for more as a result of it i think
    robby^5 wrote: »
At their ages I think they would have been looking for the best terms available in the summer. They may be offered an extension before then, but the power will be with the club and they can either choose to accept it or see if they can get better at the age of 30. It sounds similar to the Van Persie situation, but not every player can boast the best form of their career at the age of 29 and I'd be surprised if there are clubs offering Podolski and Cazorla huge wages we cant match in 4 years time.

Why do you think it'll take 4 years for the club to offer them a new contract, them to go looking for a new contact or even someone to bid for them (probably cazorla more so than podolski in this case)? it won't

even the same wages never mind more at city, united or chelsea is a better prospect for winning something than with arsenal

The power is very rarely with the clubs any more, if in the summer or in 18 months arsenal offer cazorla a new contract and he doesn't accept, you know other clubs will find out about it & try to buy him, arsenal can refuse but if he's not going to sign you know sooner or later he'll be sold before he can leave for free.

Nah, I just steal from arsenal.com (well actually I just copy, paste n' edit my last post). They don't do assists. I guess it's because assists are more open to interpretation than outright goals.

I really think we should give walcott the 100k, its really not a lot of money in todays market especially for our most dangerous player. The wage structure is a bit of a joke, how many players did we let go cause we wouldn't pay the market wage and how many crap players do we have that we can't get rid of because they're too well paid?

Former Dutch player tells Sky that Huntelaar is likely to be Arsenal bound this winter
Posted by SPORT WITNESS on November 21, 2012

    http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topi ... to-be-arse

The Klass Jan Huntelaar story took yet another twist this evening when former Dutch player Erik Meijer, now considered an expert on the game as a TV pundit, told the Germany's Sky Sports that the striker would be leaving Schalke this winter and Arsenal was the most likely destination.

The TV quotes, which went out prior to tonight's matches, have been picked up by Press Portal in Germany and they quote Meijer as saying "According to my information (from Holland) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar goes away in winter and the favourite right now is Arsenal."

Dutch journalist Jan Leerkes backed him up "I think Erik's right. That's what I've heard, Arsenal are the favourites, Liverpool is the alternative. I can honestly say, if I were him I would stay at Schalke. Since he could be a legend."

German tabloid Bild said a few weeks ago that Huntelaar was likely to be staying with Schalke after the Bundesliga club offered him a big new contract, they said that he was content with the team and happy at how things were progressing. It was even suggested that a new deal would be announced in early December, but things appeared to have changed since then.

Italian outlet Calciomercato.it spoke to Arnoldus Oosterveer, Huntelaar's agent, about potential Juventus interest a week ago and what the situation was with Huntelaar, he said "Nothing is decided yet, what you read in the newspapers, of an agreement between Huntelaar and an English club is false. It is, in fact, just rumours.

"Klaas has not yet decided anything about his future, has not decided if he wants to play in Italy, Spain, England or stay in Germany for example. He'll be planning his future in the winter, in the coming months. To know the future of Huntelaar must therefore wait."

For Meijer to be correct things must have moved on during the last few days and if Huntelaar did arrive in the January transfer window it would surely be a welcome addition to the Arsenal squad. The Holland striker has a big rivalry with former Arsenal man Robin van Persie and would relish the chance to prove he can be just as good in the Premier league

Not really pushed on huntelaar, he did SFA at milan and madrid and what will happen with giroud?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭2ndcoming

We've been linked with him many times over the years, and I don't think Wenger's ever really been that keen.

Cavani would be my choice, although I have to say I'm a huge admirer of Giroud and think he'll only get better as the season goes on.

As mentioned earlier in the thread Leighton Baines would be a massive addition for us, as would Victor Wanyama.

Wilfried Zaha's one man twitter campaign to show the world he's a gooner is endearing as well, but I haven't seen enough of him to rate him properly myself.

Unless I'm mistaken, Huntelaar wouldn't be able to play for us in the CL after Christmas because he's cup tied.

If thats true, its highly illogical for him to give up the chance of a CL run with Schalke to sit on the bench and watch us (probably) get knocked out in the last 16.

What a dull game last night.

Which is a great complaint to have.

    No more 3-3 thrillers splease.

Posted this in the wrong thread earlier.

Arsenal should spend the next two days practicing taking corners. It is maddening to see tall players coming up from the back and the corner kick landing at the feet of the first defender and watching our defenders trying to get back into position while the opposition counter-attack.

An Arsenal corner, more often than not, turns into an attacking position for the opposition. It can be more of a punishment than a reward.

How often have we seen it happen especially over the last two seasons?
I would have thought that this kind of thing would have been remedied as it has to be sticking out a mile to the manager and coaches, but it's not.

Walcott seems to be the best bet at corner taking at the moment. 2 goals from his corners against Reading and 1 against Fulham. His generally crossing ability has improved too.

Agree though more practice at attacking and defending corners is always a good thing

Wouldnt mind taking short corners to Walcott more often so he can whip them in from a better angle.

Until they figure out setpieces they should do what I do with a corner if playing a video game I haven't played before and pass it back to the halfway line and build from there.

Looks like Henry in January is almost a certainty. I'm feeling a lot more excited than I should be.

I wouldn't mind if Sagna took the corners. At least we know he can cross the ball.

Of course that would mean someone else would have to cover him, but if it meant it was actually delivered to one of our players, that would surely be better than just giving the ball to the first man and loosing possession anyway.

I would always welcome him back but it is obviously another cheaper option which is not good.

    Henry + 0= bad.
    Henry + others= good.

While from a sentimental POV it's exciting, it just stinks of us taking the cheap option again. Despite what Wenger thinks about Gervinho playing up front, Giroud is really our only striking option and if he gets injured after January when Henry is gone we're fúcked.

We took the risk last year with RVP and luckily it paid off, trying it two years in a row is pushing our luck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

If Giroud was out I'd like to see Podolski get the CF nod instead of Gervinho.
