How to check if car is clocked

How do i check if a car (BMW F11) is clocked ? Other than doing a check on one of the various websites for outstanding finance etc., is there a programme is can get for my PC that can check ? I am of the understanding that if a car is clocked, the main dealer has SW that can check what the correct mileage is , is there…

i'm asking so that i know when buying a car in the UK (sometime in the future)

In this instance with BMW if the F11 was serviced at a BMW dealer then they would have scanned the car's key which contains information including the mileage.

Alternatively ring the garages that stamped the service book, verify what was done and at what mileage.
