What are the chances are it's an alien? Or will it be something "boring"? I bet on the latter.

maybe it found a face on mars

I'm going to guess they found an organic compound - say an amino acid that is one of the building blocks of life.
If it's not the usual NASA hype, yea something like that, or a compound that could only be made as a byproduct of life processes. That would be cool.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

    or one of his spiders.
The rover team won't be ready to announce just what SAM found for several weeks, NPR reported, as scientists want to check and double-check the results. Indeed, Grotzinger confirmed to SPACE.com that the news will come out at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union, which takes place Dec. 3-7 in San Francisco.

Yeah, those guys would definitely be interested in spiders.

That the radiation levels on mars are not nearly as high as was previously thought and in fact would not be fatal to humans

It's not really a field, it just has less rocks in it than all the other places...

History books could be rewritten, as 35 years ago, one of the Viking craft's instruments reported finding some form of life in the Mars atmosphere which was latter assumed to be contamination.
One experiment turned positive for the detection of metabolism (current life), but based on the results of the other two experiments that failed to reveal any organic molecules in the soil, most scientists became convinced that the positive results were likely caused by non-biological chemical reactions from highly oxidizing soil conditions.

Well they know water is there, just not in liquid form(at the surface anyway, but may be liquid below in a high salinity state) and there's both water and carbon dioxide ice at the poles, which ebbs and flows with the Martian seasons.
