    usb adaptor

(I edited the link to the rs232 cable I posted on the previous page to show one specified as "null modem" which is what is required for the 250 according to the manual.)

Just bought the Buffalo HD-EU2 to accompany my Ariva HD 120, but every time I playback a programme recorded in HD she cuts out after a couple of minutes (quick message pops up) download speed too slow . . . . . It comes preformatted as FAT 32, so I wonder will changing it to NTFS speed it up enough as to make it compatible with the Ariva HD-120 so that it can record/playback in HD.

    BUFFALO HD-EU2 http://www.gadgetshunter.com/image/cache/data/Buffalo/BUFFALO%20HD-CEU2%20DriveStation%20%20with%20TurboUSB-500x500.jpg

I do realise that this is the Ariva 250 thread, but I guess the same aplplies.

Not every drive will work with these boxes. I am not sure of the read and write speed of that drive you have. Anyhow what I would suggest is partitioning the drive to 750gb and 250gb. I have it in the back of my head that this is an dependance with the Arivas.

So you dont think that reformatting it to NTFS or changing the USB/Printer lead will make much difference? (I'm using an old printer lead).

I lost BBC3, BBC4, and BBC News some time back. Is there some way I can get those 3 back without messing with all my other channel settings? Thanks

Well on my Ariva 120 I just went into the menu and added the missing TPs, I then did a scan which captured the new frequencies (the new channels appear at the end of your channel list), then its just a matter of deleting the old BBCs and moving the new ones into the old spaces.

    Bingo!

Check http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2B.html for the relevant frequency or transponder settings for the channels you need.

Then go into "TP list" transponder list in the installation menu and scan the relevant transponders. You will probably download other channels that you dont want as well which you can delete

Yes that would be what you are looking to add to the null modem cable for but......

I have yet to see these working (the USB to Null modem cables). I would suggest you just get a Null modem cable and find someone with a PC. Here is the lead that will work for you.

Do you not know anyone who has a PC ?

All you need then is the ABS file on a USB stick, the software uploader and the box and the lead connected between the PC and the box.

It will take less than 2 minutes to do (I have done it on countless boxes including the Arivas).

Instructions for 250 recovery with null modem cable.

Recovery instructions for boxes temporarily bricked.

    1. Download the latest firmware. Extract the .abs file from this zipped file to somewhere obvious (desktop for example).

    2. Download the Erom Upgrade tool for the 250.

    Extract the files.

    3. Connect your PC from its serial port to the boxes R232 port using the Null modem cable. Make sure box is off at switch on back.

    4. Double click the ArivaUpgrader.exe file that was extracted. It will pull up a dialog box. Select the Com port - default is 1. Baud Rate should be 115200. Parity=Even. Operate Mode= Upgrade. Include bootloader should be ticked.

Pick the software you extracted as per No.1 above in the browse bar.

Click next. Turn box on. Box will reboot when the file gets to 100%.

    Hi Tony,
I don't suppose you have the new 1.20b6 software with your channel list for the 250?

Wow that was quick cheers for that lads!
I have had a few files on the 1.20B6 software play with sound only getting "video codec not supported" on the media player function (avi's mainly, mkvs are fine) but the channels defo change quicker on that software. anyone else running into issues playing stuff?

And thanks again Tony and STB!

actually I just read that the newer firmware on the site A250Combo_20121112_V1.20B6.zip‎ that fixes an issue with playing DIVX files.

they really need to come up with a way to carry the channel list across to newer versions.

Tony and STB, do you guys have to start your channel list from scratch when you update to the newer firmware?

They have actually on the new 1.20b6. The new software provides a new option for channel list which seems to seperate a "bin" file which theoretically could be used on other models with the same function as it seems to be a sans firmware tiny file (untested). Tony might do that as he has both the 150 and the 250.

Anyway on my version I have embedded the channel list with the new firmware. You just need to do an allcode & bootloader and it will load the new firmware and the channel lists should automatically load with it.

    Hi STB/Tony,

Everyone seems to ask u guys 4 a channell list.

I have 4 Sats and do my own list and it takes about an hour (whilst watching footall at the same time)

So how long does it actually take to do ur list, surely no more than half an hour?

    Regards

    Iba

I started mine from scratch, blind scanning to be honest (I posted it a few weeks or so ago on this thread, when the new version came out).

I have a version with 28/19/16/10/9/4.8 if you want it, all done fresh. Its exchangeable with the dvbextreme version.

Videos encoded in FourCC XviD ? I have read somewhere about patching the box for obscure codecs using the seeback function.

Does anyone have a channel list for the latest firmware with all the crap channels cut away just leaving a good selection of the UK channels and film and music channels? All the repeated BBC channels for different regions etc deleted?

For FTA I use the Saorview and Sat List.

Its got all the main channels. You just add your Saorview channels from your local transmitter to complete that list.

Ah right, this is for my parents one so I wouldn't even bother trying to explain favorites lists to them, thanks anyway.

Looks like Ill have to sacrifice another Saturday to this thing :(

The original list took quite a bit of time and I was hoping that others would do terrestrial transmitter specific lists from around the country by adding on terrestrial channels but unfortunately STB and one or two others are the only ones that have pitched in so far .
