Couple things to note. For some reason, the address mentions Mickey and the video review is gone from the site. Mustn't have been allowed to post them in the first place. ANd as you said, you couldn't find the review since it seems only a direct link works

As far as I know, the embargo isn't up till tomorrow; at a guess I'd say it's midnight in US.

Shamefully I have missed out on the wii games as only ever concentrated on Xbox!!!

Playing through galaxy now and what a great game!!!

Picked up wario land shake dimension for 7.99 in GameStop too what a bargain!!!

Collecting some old wii games to bulk my wii u collection :)

Ah the Wii. So underrated. My Wii collection is probably larger than my PS3 collection.

On another note, the update has gone live and it's taking a while to download. Going by a livestream someone put up as well as tweets. About halfway after 45 mins. And don;t know if the progress bar includes the install. Will be interesting tomorrow when more than journalists and early Wii U are updating.
Also you can't use the system while updating, but you can see the progress on the gamepad if you want to just leave it and watch tv or something.

My local Gamestop in Letterkenny said they'll probably just get enough in for preorders. But the guy said that was just because it's a small area.

Kotaku have put up a guide now to show how you can transfer your Wii data to the WiiU.

Work contract not being renewed due to company cost saving absolutely raging was dying to get my hands on this console!!!

Ohhh... lots of trouble for newbie Wii U owners. How do you fancy a 5gb download before you can use the console? I hope parents have the foresight to update it in stealth before Christmas, or there may be lots of unhappy kids watching a progress bar until lunchtime or later on December 25th.

Oh, and don't turn it off during update - multiple reports of bricked machines (as if a 5gb download wasn't enough hassle).

    Eurogamer review. Also positive
    9/10

    IGN review. Not so positive:
    6.3/10

To be honest this is the one thing I don't look forward to for the Wii U. Not just this update but more to come. As long as they keep the update updated. By that I mean, if they make more updates, like the one for the video apps in December, that they will include that in this update so if you buy the system after December, you only have 1 update to download.
Of course maybe the OS will be the full thing in next year's systems like they have the latest firmware in later versions of Wii and PS3.

I'm pretty sure the PS4 and new XBox will have updates of this size or more when released.

One positive from this is I haven't heard of any server problems. So Nintendo must've been prepared for this.

Just in Gamestop paying off mine an hour ago, looks like I am the only one that has booked a Zombie U edition in there so far.

    Official Nintendo Magazine score
    92%
. Not a total surprise they have given it this score but it cant be a total dud with that score can it?

Brief summary of their score here.

really wierd seeing all these mixed reviews for zombiu. well getting that bundle anyway now so cant change my mind if i dont like the game at least it will still have the pro controller and i can always trade in zombiu and get something better. probably get one or two other games anyway

The latency of the Gamepad is getting fantastic thumbs up from pretty much all round, which is great to hear. Gamepad itself seems to be very impressive too in a functional way.

I was in HMV today to make sure my pre-order was ok, given all the talk on here. The guy there told me he's not even sure that they will have them on launch day. Apparently Nintendo won't give them a straight answer beyond "some time between launch day and Dec 15th". He thinks they are probably just trying to cause a frenzy like there was with the Wii, but i'm quite worried now. Anyone get anything concrete from their local HMV?

Oh, he also said if they have it they will most likely not have a midnight launch.

This might be me remembering it incorrectly but did the Wii not record the date on the calendar when you started it up the first time?

I think I had to do some quick thinking on Christmas morning if it did and if I remembering it right.

Santa gets toys ready to play straight away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,684 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Absolutely... Santa's elves were testing it.

I'm only gonna have two actual Wii U games for the first few weeks, hopefully get a couple more for christmas. Other than that, I'l be playing the huge back catalogue of wii games I've piled up.

I dunno, it's still gonna be perfectly playable out of the box, don't think kids receiving one from Santa will care much about online.

I think there will be a bit of noise when it gets moved to Little Jimmy's room to go on the CRT only to find the cable in the bbox is no good and that composite cables aren't exactly easy to come by...

Edit - quoted the wrong post, oops! :o

i was in the HMV in cork and asked about the possible taking too many preorders and kinda got a look like i was a three headed monkey. they werent much help but said they knew nothing about it and that when there was information available that someone would ring me. they did also kinda say something about xmas stock coming in at different times which had me thinking are they gonna have it on launch day. im hoping they do or the savings of getting it in hmv wont be worth it

I was in HMV in Belfast and they said they didn't really know what's happening with the release either (at least the guy was being honest with me).
