Yep no mention of it in the manual that I can see . If you select "other" in the menu you should see "auto standby" which may help achieve what you need although there does not seem to be an option to vary the time .
Thanks tony, did the trick. much appreciated

Will it work with a memory stick. It works fine for me from Stand-by and I am using a memory stick. I have also set it to turn off after recording. It records, goes to stand-by after recording and comes back on for the next timer.

If I recall I had a similar issue with a powered hard-drive. The drive had a switch on it to either stay on all the time or go to stand-by when the connected device was powered off. It worked when the switch was set to be on all the time. I didn't want the hard-drive turned on all the time so I went for a 256MB memory stick.

I was using a "Cyclone" HDD/media player with the box, worked fine until I timed the box to record from standby while forgetting to leave on the power supply to the HDD. Now the HDD will not work with the box at all, although the box and HDD are working fine in all other respects.

Could be that the 250 is more compatible with Memory Sticks than HDDs

I tried it with a memory stick too and tried both front and back ports all to no avail. The powered hard drive stays on all the time. Pain in the hole.

Assume you meant 256GB? In any case, what exact device did you use? I want to do the same but don't want to spash out on one unless I am pretty certain it works with the 250. I would also be interested to know where you bought it and how much you spent?

    Thanks.

    ?

The self powered hard drive would always stay on. Its power supply operates independent of the box. The box would not switch it off unless it was powering the hdd.

If you are saying that the drive is constantly being accessed by the box when a timer is set, then you have the timeshift switched on. You can turn this off in the menus. You only need to do this once as the box saves ALL your preferred settings in the root directory of the hard drive.

The HDD is not accessible now at all by the drive ?

I meant this whole failed recordings thing is a pain in the hole...not the hard drive being always on which of course it would be seeing as it's powered separately. The box works great with the hard drive for pause, rewind, pressing record while the box is actually on, timed recordings when it's on...it just fails when the box is in standby. It'll turn on, get IP address, recognise the hard drive, I'll get a pop up about the event I have scheduled but it just doesn't record (and yes I do have it set to record in the timer menu). It's a mystery!

It's a pity they don't provide a facility on the editor on the PC to export the channel only to a text file and then import it to the bin files using the editor after a firmware upgrade. Using the following steps
    1. Do a dump of the current set-up on the STB to USB
    2. Bring to the editor and export the channel list to a text file
    3. Upgrade the STB to newer firmware
    4. Do a dump on the STB to USB
    5. Bring to the editor and import the text file with the channel list
    6. Save it and bring back to the STB to burn it.

    Hi Wextipp

Can you please tell me how you export to a text file from the Ariva Editor? When I choose to export I only get the options of exporting as the following file types: .ddf, .udf, .abs & .ddd

Your help is much appreciated. I have a channel list on my 1.19 firmware I want to import into my 1.20 firmware. It took a lot of time to put together so dont fancy having to go through it all again if at all possible.

From the advice i have read in previous posts you should not be using chn lists from one firmware and mixing it with a different firmware version as it causes problems but STB or Tony might confirm this as they seem to know the ins and outs of these boxes and i have used their advice in the past and it was spot on..

You can't !. I was only saying it would be nice to be able to do that.

Hi I've asked this before but nobody replied.
I have an original Ferguson HD combo which has worked very well for me. I have now purchased a 250 box to use in another room. I have lots of stuff recorded on the original box which I would like to view on the new box. When I connect up external drive to the 250 box it sees the files but I cannot seem to be able to play them. Does this mean that there is no compatibility with programs recorded between these boxes
I simply take the files with the extension of .ts, rename it to an extension of .mpeg, copy it to the root of the USB drive in the other box and use the media player to play them. Although I am going from a 250 to a 120. It may work the other way.

Unfortunately that plan didn't work either. It just refuses to work with scheduled recordings when in standby. Oh well, I give up :(

    my box has crashed.

is there any way of doing a factory rest , not using the menus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Compton

what exactly has crashed? What does it say? You can use the switch at the back of the box.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,185 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

software crash by the look of it ive turned it on and off with the switch at the back and all that comes on screen is ash even has the cr missing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,362 ✭✭✭✭Tony

There is no cr, ash refers to an eeprom problem . You would need to use a laptop with rs 232 and the ferguson loader programme.

Dont send it back. I will talk you through it via PM. Its easy.

Do you have a PC or a laptop ?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,185 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

You will need a USB to RS232 Serial Adapter, can be bought online or fleabay, once you have this, you can then use a RS232 cable to connect the box to your laptop,

go here and download the EPROM fix
    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-250-Combo/

and follow the instructions on how to do it via the manual
